복되신 동정 마리아 모후
1954년 교황 비오 12세는 여왕이신 동정 성모 마리아 축일을 제정하시고 교서를 반포하셨습니다. 주 하느님께서 그분의 조상 다윗의 왕좌를 주시어 야곱의 후손을 영원히 다스리는 왕이 될 것(루카 1,32-33)이라고 했던 가브리엘 천사의 말씀과 엘리사벳이 마리아를 주님의 어머니(루카 1,43)로 부른 성서 구절을 기초로 하였으며 그래서 성모 마리아는 아들의 왕권 때문에 메시아적 왕이신 천주 성자의 어머니이십니다. 그러므로 가톨릭교회는 복되신 동정 성모 마리아를 여왕으로 섬깁니다.

< 저를 맞으러 제집 문을 처음 나오는 사람을 주님께 번제물로 바치겠습니다. >
해설) 업신여김을 받는 사람들과 변두리로 밀려난 소외된 사람들이 주님의 계획안에서 그분의 도구가 되어 주님께 영광을 드리기도 합니다. 자신의 이익을 위해 가난한 이들을 변두리로 밀어낸 공동체는 항상 위기 상황에 빠집니다. 그럴 경우 업신여김을 받는 사람들과 가난하고 소외된 이들이 그러한 위기의 사태를 해결하기도 합니다.
그 무렵 29 주님의 영이 입타에게 내렸다. 그리하여 그는 길앗과 므나쎄를 가로질렀다. 그리고 길앗 미츠파로 건너갔다가, 길앗 미츠파를 떠나 암몬 자손들이 있는 곳으로 건너갔다. 30 그때에 입타는 주님께 서원을 하였다. “당신께서 암몬 자손들을 제 손에 넘겨만 주신다면, 31 제가 암몬 자손들을 이기고 무사히 돌아갈 때, 저를 맞으러 제집 문을 처음 나오는 사람은 주님의 것이 될 것입니다. 그 사람을 제가 번제물로 바치겠습니다.” 32 그러고 나서 입타는 암몬 자손들에게 건너가 그들과 싸웠다. 주님께서 그들을 그의 손에 넘겨주셨으므로, 33 그는 아로에르에서 민닛 어귀까지 그들의 성읍 스무 개를, 그리고 아벨 크라밈까지 쳐부수었다. 암몬 자손들에게 그것은 대단히 큰 타격이었다. 그리하여 그들은 이스라엘 자손들 앞에서 굴복하였다. 34 입타가 미츠파에 있는 자기 집으로 돌아가는데, 그의 딸이 손북을 들고 춤을 추면서 그를 맞으러 나오는 것이었다. 그는 하나밖에 없는 자식이었다. 입타에게 그 아이 말고는 아들도 딸도 없었다. 35 자기 딸을 본 순간 입타는 제 옷을 찢으며 말하였다. “아, 내 딸아! 네가 나를 짓눌러 버리는구나. 바로 네가 나를 비탄에 빠뜨리다니! 내가 주님께 내 입으로 약속했는데, 그것을 돌이킬 수는 없단다.” 36 그러자 딸이 입타에게 말하였다. “아버지, 아버지께서는 주님께 직접 약속하셨습니다. 주님께서 아버지의 원수인 암몬 자손들에게 복수해 주셨으니, 이미 말씀하신 대로 저에게 하십시오.” 37 그러고 나서 딸은 아버지에게 청하였다. “이 한 가지만 저에게 허락해 주십시오. 두 달 동안 말미를 주십시오. 동무들과 함께 길을 떠나 산으로 가서 처녀로 죽는 이 몸을 두고 곡을 하렵니다.” 38 입타는 “가거라.” 하면서 딸을 두 달 동안 떠나보냈다. 딸은 동무들과 함께 산으로 가서 처녀로 죽는 자신을 두고 곡을 하였다. 39 두 달 뒤에 딸이 아버지에게 돌아오자, 아버지는 주님께 서원한 대로 딸을 바쳤다.

29 The Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah. He passed through Gilead and Manasseh, and through Mizpah-Gilead as well, and from there he went on to the Ammonites. 30 Jephthah made a vow to the LORD. "If you deliver the Ammonites into my power," he said, 31 "whoever comes out of the doors of my house to meet me when I return in triumph from the Ammonites shall belong to the LORD. I shall offer him up as a burnt offering." 32 Jephthah then went on to the Ammonites to fight against them,and the LORD delivered them into his power, 33 so that he inflicted a severe defeat on them, from Aroer to the approach of Minnith (twenty cities in all) and as far as Abel-keramim. Thus were the Ammonites brought into subjection by the children of Israel. 34 When Jephthah returned to his house in Mizpah, it was his daughter who came forth, playing the tambourines and dancing. She was an only child: he had neither son nor daughter besides her. 35 When he saw her, he rent his garments and said, "Alas, daughter, you have struck me down and brought calamity upon me. For I have made a vow to the LORD and I cannot retract." 36 She replied, "Father, you have made a vow to the LORD.Do with me as you have vowed, because the LORD has wrought vengeance for you on your enemies the Ammonites." 37 Then she said to her father, "Let me have this favor. Spare me for two months, that I may go off down the mountains to mourn my virginity with my companions." 38 "Go," he replied, and sent her away for two months. So she departed with her companions and mourned her virginity on the mountains. 39 At the end of the two months she returned to her father, who did to her as he had vowed.
묵상) 입타는 길앗이 창녀의 몸에서 얻은 아들입니다. 그러자 본처 아들들이 입타를 내쫓습니다. 암몬 사람들이 이스라엘을 쳐들어오자 원로들은 입타에게 도움을 청합니다. 주님께서 그들을 입타의 손에 붙여 주시므로 입타는 암몬 진지로 쳐들어가 암몬군을 멸합니다. 새로운 사회는 버려진 돌 위에 세워집니다.

< 아무나 만나는 대로 잔치에 불러오너라. >
해설) 구약시대엔 예언자들을 통하여 신약시대엔 사도들을 통하여 구원의 복음을 알리지만 이스라엘 백성들은 예언자들과 사도들을 배척합니다. 하느님께서는 제1차 독립전쟁 때 로마 군인들을 보내어 이스라엘 백성을 살육하고 마침내 70년 예루살렘 성전을 불살라 버립니다. 이스라엘은 불행히도 구원을 받을 자격을 상실합니다.
1 그때에 예수님께서는 여러 가지 비유로 수석 사제들과 백성의 원로들에게 말씀하셨다. 2 “하늘 나라는 자기 아들의 혼인 잔치를 베푼 어떤 임금에게 비길 수 있다. 3 그는 종들을 보내어 혼인 잔치에 초대받은 이들을 불러오게 하였다. 그러나 그들은 오려고 하지 않았다. 4 그래서 다시 다른 종들을 보내며 이렇게 일렀다. ‘초대받은 이들에게, ′내가 잔칫상을 이미 차렸소. 황소와 살진 짐승을 잡고 모든 준비를 마쳤으니, 어서 혼인 잔치에 오시오.′하고 말하여라.’ 5 그러나 그들은 아랑곳하지 않고, 어떤 자는 밭으로 가고 어떤 자는 장사하러 갔다. 6 그리고 나머지 사람들은 종들을 붙잡아 때리고 죽였다. 7 임금은 진노하였다. 그래서 군대를 보내어 그 살인자들을 없애고 그들의 고을을 불살라 버렸다. 8 그러고 나서 종들에게 말하였다.‘혼인 잔치는 준비되었는데 초대받은 자들은 마땅하지 않구나. 9 그러니 고을 어귀로 가서 아무나 만나는 대로 잔치에 불러오너라.’ 10 그래서 그 종들은 거리에 나가 악한 사람 선한 사람 할 것 없이 만나는 대로 데려왔다. 잔칫방은 손님들로 가득 찼다. 11 임금이 손님들을 둘러보려고 들어왔다가, 혼인 예복을 입지 않은 사람 하나를 보고, 12 ‘친구여, 그대는 혼인 예복도 갖추지 않고 어떻게 여기 들어왔나?’ 하고 물으니, 그는 아무 말도 하지 못하였다. 13 그러자 임금이 하인들에게 말하였다. ‘이자의 손과 발을 묶어서 바깥 어둠 속으로 내던져 버려라. 거기에서 울며 이를 갈 것이다.’ 14 사실 부르심을 받은 이들은 많지만 선택된 이들은 적다.”

1 Jesus began to speak to them in parables once again, 2 'The kingdom of Heaven may be compared to a king who gave a feast for his son's wedding. 3 He sent his servants to call those who had been invited, but they would not come. 4 Next he sent some more servants with the words, "Tell those who have been invited: Look, my banquet is all prepared, my oxen and fattened cattle have been slaughtered, everything is ready. Come to the wedding." 5 But they were not interested: one went off to his farm, another to his business, 6 and the rest seized his servants, maltreated them and killed them. 7 The king was furious. He dispatched his troops, destroyed those murderers and burnt their town. 8 Then he said to his servants, "The wedding is ready; but as those who were invited proved to be unworthy, 9 go to the main crossroads and invite everyone you can find to come to the wedding." 10 So these servants went out onto the roads and collected together everyone they could find, bad and good alike; and the wedding hall was filled with guests. 11 When the king came in to look at the guests he noticed one man who was not wearing a wedding garment, 12 and said to him, "How did you get in here, my friend, without a wedding garment?" And the man was silent. 13 Then the king said to the attendants, "Bind him hand and foot and throw him into the darkness outside, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth." 14 For many are invited but not all are chosen.'
묵상) 주님께서 새로운 구원사를 시작하십니다. 그리스도교 선교사들은 악한 자들이건 선한 자들이건 모두 교회로 모아들입니다. 이제 교회는 유다인과 이방인이 공존하는 혼성 공동체이며 종말에 이르기까지 악인과 선인이 공생하는 혼합 공동체가 됩니다. 교회 안에 참 그리스도인도 많지만 무늬만 그리스도인인 사람도 많습니다.
주님께서 이스라엘을 선택하시지만 그들은 번번이 주님을 거역합니다. 그래도 그들을 이끄시고 구하십니다. 이제 주님께서 새로운 백성인 그리스도인을 택하시고 ‘어서 혼인 잔치에 오시오.’하고 우리를 부르십니다. 우리가 잡은 손을 먼저 놓기 전에는 절대 포기하지도 내치시도 않으실 것입니다. 주님의 사랑을 기억하고 실행하는 참 자녀가 되어야 합니다.

혼인 잔치의 비유
+ 마태오 22,1-14
1. 나는 삶 속에서 언제 하느님의 초대를 받습니까? 그리고 그 초대에 어떻게 응답합니까? 하느님은 나를 초대하고 계시는데 세속적 가치가 그 초대에 응하는 것을 방해하진 않았습니까? 부르심을 받고도 나는 온갖 핑계를 대며 시간을 벌고 있지는 않습니까? 하느님께서 언제까지 기다려 주실 거라 생각하고 있습니까?
2. 하느님의 잔치에 참석하기 위해 준비해야할 것은 무엇이 있습니까? 내가 준비한 옷은 잔치에 적절하다고 느낍니까? 하늘나라의 음식을 맛보기 위해 무엇을 준비해야 합니까?

Parable of the wedding feast
This memorial celebrates the crowning of Mary as Queen of Heaven following the Solemnity of the Assumption seven days ago.
The crowning of Mary as Queen is a medieval image of completion or perfection of God’s plan celebrated a full seven days (remember the biblical number of completion) after her Assumption into the fullness of God’s reign. The feast of the Assumption of Mary – one of the most ancient feasts of the Church has long been a kind of late summer “hurrah!” for God’s plan of Salvation. Mary is the first fruit of that plan and in her we all find out own future life in God, should we, like her, grant our fealty to God’s Will. Mary’s profound and simple response to God’s Annunciation of Divine desire is simply “let your will be accomplished in (through) me.” Later, Jesus will teach the perfect prayer of one who discerns God’s plan: “ May Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
The first reading today describes one of those leaders of Judah who bargained with God to be given the power to defeat Israel's enemies and become the greatest military power. His bargain was a dangerous one, however, for it guaranteed the destruction of his house. Unwittingly he pledged his own daughter’s life away before she could marry and give him grandsons to enjoy the inheritance and power he had just won. The daughter gives her life to redeem her father’s pledge, however, and thus serves as the savior of her father’s name.
The message of the kingdom was first proclaimed to the Jews who rejected it and so it was proclaimed to the Gentiles and hence to all people. We are all invited to the kingdom of heaven but unless we live a life worthy of that call we will not be allowed to enter. The Holy Spirit has been given to us to show us the way but we must receive him openly and without condition.
Prayer "Lord, may I always know the joy of living in your presence and grow in the hope of seeing you face to face in your everlasting kingdom." - Amen

마르카의 아피냐노에서 어느 가난한 부모에게서 태어난 베르나르두스(Bernardus, 또는 베르나르도)는 일곱 살 때부터 양지기로 일하였다. 그러던 어느 날 수도자가 되라는 주님의 부르심을 깨닫고 카푸친회의 평수사가 되었다. 그는 여러 수도원의 잡일을 맡아 하면서 문전걸식을 시작하였다. 그의 이런 행동이 처음에는 인정되지 못하여 관구장에게 질책을 받기도 했으나, 일생동안 이런 일을 통하여 높은 성덕의 지위에 올랐던 것이다. 주민들은 그분에게 음식을 들고 와서 영적 지도를 받았고, 수많은 죄인들이 개과천선하였던 것이다.
한번은 어느 가련한 부인이 죽어가는 아이를 베르나르두스에게 내보이며 살려달라고 애원하였다. 그는 그 아이를 팔에 안았는데 그 아이는 이미 죽어 있었다. 일이 이렇게 되자 그 부인은 이제 아들을 살려내라고 생떼를 쓰기 시작하였다. 성인은 그 아이를 안고 그곳의 성 펠릭스(Felix) 성당으로 가서 이렇게 기도하였다. “선하신 성 펠릭스여, 이제는 당신이 저를 도와줄 시간입니다.” 그 후 그 아이는 소생하였다. 이 기적으로 수많은 주민들이 큰 혼잡을 빚었다고 한다. 그는 90세의 일기로 선종했는데, 수도원 문지기로 일생을 마감하였다. 그는 1795년 교황 비오 6세(Pius VI)에 의해 복자품에 올랐다. 카푸친 작은 형제회에서는 8월 23일에 그의 축일을 기념한다.
