Thursday of the Twelfth Week in Ordinary Time

+ 창세기 16, 1-12. 15-16 또는 16, 6ㄹ-12. 15-16

<하가르는 아브람에게 아들을 낳아 주었다. 아브람은 그 이름을 이스마엘이라 하였다.>

해설) 사라이는 자신이 아이를 낳지 못하게 되자 몸종 하가르를 아브람의 소실로 들어 앉혀서 그 아들을 자기 아들로 삼으려고 합니다. 몸종 하가르가 자신의 여주인 사라이를 업신여기자 하가르는 다시 몸종의 위치로 돌아가는 처벌을 받습니다. 그리하여 하가르도 그의 아들 이스마엘도 불길한 운명을 맞게 됩니다.

1 아브람의 아내 사라이는 그에게 자식을 낳아 주지 못하였다. 사라이에게는 이집트인 여종이 하나 있었는데, 그 이름은 하가르였다. 2 사라이가 아브람에게 말하였다. “여보, 주님께서 나에게 자식을 갖지 못하게 하시니, 내 여종과 한자리에 드셔요. 행여 그 아이의 몸을 빌려서라도 내가 아들을 얻을 수 있을지 모르잖아요.” 아브람은 사라이의 말을 들었다. 3 그리하여 아브람의 아내 사라이는 자기의 이집트인 여종 하가르를 데려다, 자기 남편 아브람에게 아내로 주었다. 아브람이 가나안 땅에 자리 잡은 지 십 년이 지난 뒤의 일이었다. 4 그가 하가르와 한자리에 들자 그 여자가 임신하였다. 그 여자는 자기가 임신한 것을 알고서 제 여주인을 업신여겼다. 5 그래서 사라이가 아브람에게 말하였다. “내가 이렇게 부당한 일을 겪는 것은 당신 책임이에요. 내가 내 여종을 당신 품 안에 안겨 주었는데, 이 여종은 자기가 임신한 것을 알고서 나를 업신여긴답니다. 아, 주님께서 나와 당신 사이의 시비를 가려 주셨으면!” 6 아브람이 사라이에게 말하였다. “여보, 당신의 여종이니 당신 손에 달려 있지 않소? 당신 좋을 대로 하구려.” 그리하여 사라이가 하가르를 구박하니, 하가르는 사라이를 피하여 도망쳤다. 7 주님의 천사가 광야에 있는 샘터에서 하가르를 만났다. 그것은 수르로 가는 길가에 있는 샘이었다. 8 그 천사가 “사라이의 여종 하가르야, 어디에서 와서 어디로 가는 길이냐?” 하고 묻자, 그가 대답하였다. “저의 여주인 사라이를 피하여 도망치는 길입니다.” 9 주님의 천사가 그에게 말하였다. “너의 여주인에게 돌아가서 그에게 복종하여라.” 10 주님의 천사가 다시 그에게 말하였다. “내가 너의 후손을 셀 수 없을 만큼 번성하게 해 주겠다.” 11 주님의 천사가 또 그에게 말하였다. “보라, 너는 임신한 몸 이제 아들을 낳으리니 그 이름을 이스마엘이라 하여라. 네가 고통 속에서 부르짖는 소리를 주님께서 들으셨다. 12 그는 들나귀 같은 사람이 되리라. 그는 모든 이를 치려고 손을 들고 모든 이는 그를 치려고 손을 들리라. 그는 자기의 모든 형제들에게 맞서 혼자 살아가리라.” 15 하가르는 아브람에게 아들을 낳아 주었다. 아브람은 하가르가 낳은 아들의 이름을 이스마엘이라 하였다. 16 하가르가 아브람에게 이스마엘을 낳아 줄 때, 아브람의 나이는 여든여섯 살이었다.

1 Abram's wife Sarai had borne him no children. She had, however, an Egyptian maidservant named Hagar. 2 Sarai said to Abram: "The LORD has kept me from bearing children. Have intercourse, then, with my maid; perhaps I shall have sons through her." Abram heeded Sarai's request. 3 Thus, after Abram had lived ten years in the land of Canaan, his wife Sarai took her maid, Hagar the Egyptian, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his concubine. 4 He had intercourse with her, and she became pregnant.When she became aware of her pregnancy, she looked on her mistress with disdain. 5 So Sarai said to Abram: "You are responsible for this outrage against me. I myself gave my maid to your embrace; but ever since she became aware of her pregnancy, she has been looking on me with disdain. May the LORD decide between you and me!" 6 Abram told Sarai: "Your maid is in your power. Do to her whatever you please." Sarai then abused her so much that Hagar ran away from her. 7 The LORD's messenger found her by a spring in the wilderness, the spring on the road to Shur, 8 and he asked, "Hagar, maid of Sarai, where have you come from and where are you going?" She answered, "I am running away from my mistress, Sarai." 9 But the LORD's messenger told her: "Go back to your mistress and submit to her abusive treatment. 10 I will make your descendants so numerous," added the LORD's messenger, "that they will be too many to count. 11 Besides," the LORD's messenger said to her: "You are now pregnant and shall bear a son; you shall name him Ishmael, For the LORD has heard you, God has answered you. 12 This one shall be a wild ass of a man, his hand against everyone, and everyone's hand against him; In opposition to all his kin shall he encamp." 15 Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram named the son whom Hagar bore him Ishmael. 16 Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore him Ishmael.

묵상) 몸종에게서 태어난 이스마엘도 주님의 축복을 받지만, 주님께서 이스마엘을 통하여 당신의 구원 약속을 실현하지 않으십니다. 주님께서는 인간과 인류를 위해 다른 큰 계획을 세우고 계십니다. 그러나 많은 경우 인간은 주님의 그런 계획이 실현될 수 없다고 하면서 자기들의 계획들을 세웁니다.

해설) 유다교에서는 구원을 얻기 위해 율법 공부와 율법 실천을 강조합니다. 그러나 예수님께서는 산상 설교의 가르침을 듣고 행할 것을 말씀하십니다. 말로만 '주님, 주님'할 것이 아니라 주님께서 말씀하신 것들을 지키고 행해야 합니다. 예수님의 말씀을 듣고 지키는 사람은 종말 위기 때 구원받을 것입니다.

그때에 예수님께서 제자들에게 말씀하셨다. 21 “나에게 ‘주님, 주님!’한다고 모두 하늘 나라에 들어가는 것이 아니다. 하늘에 계신 내 아버지의 뜻을 실행하는 이라야 들어간다. 22 그날에 많은 사람이 나에게, ‘주님, 주님! 저희가 주님의 이름으로 예언을 하고, 주님의 이름으로 마귀를 쫓아내고, 주님의 이름으로 많은 기적을 일으키지 않았습니까?’ 하고 말할 것이다. 23 그때에 나는 그들에게, ‘나는 너희를 도무지 알지 못한다. 내게서 물러들 가라, 불법을 일삼는 자들아!’ 하고 선언할 것이다. 24 그러므로 나의 이 말을 듣고 실행하는 이는 모두 자기 집을 반석 위에 지은 슬기로운 사람과 같을 것이다. 25 비가 내려 강물이 밀려오고 바람이 불어 그 집에 들이쳤지만 무너지지 않았다. 반석 위에 세워졌기 때문이다. 26 그러나 나의 이 말을 듣고 실행하지 않는 자는 모두 자기 집을 모래 위에 지은 어리석은 사람과 같다. 27 비가 내려 강물이 밀려오고 바람이 불어 그 집에 휘몰아치자 무너져 버렸다. 완전히 무너지고 말았다.” 28 예수님께서 이 말씀들을 마치시자 군중은 그분의 가르침에 몹시 놀랐다. 29 그분께서 자기들의 율법 학자들과는 달리 권위를 가지고 가르치셨기 때문이다.

21 'It is not anyone who says to me, "Lord, Lord," who will enter the kingdom of Heaven, but the person who does the will of my Father in heaven.22 When the day comes many will say to me, "Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, drive out demons in your name, work many miracles in your name?" 23 Then I shall tell them to their faces: I have never known you; away from me, all evil doers! 24 'Therefore, everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a sensible man who built his house on rock. 25 Rain came down, floods rose, gales blew and hurled themselves against that house, and it did not fall: it was founded on rock. 26 But everyone who listens to these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a stupid man who built his house on sand. 27 Rain came down, floods rose, gales blew and struck that house, and it fell; and what a fall it had!' 28 Jesus had now finished what he wanted to say, and his teaching made a deep impression on the people 29 because he taught them with authority, unlike their own scribes.

묵상) 지금 하느님의 뜻을 행하는 사람만이 장차 하느님 나라에 들어갈 것입니다. 하느님의 뜻을 행하지 않는 사람은 범법을 일삼는 자들로서 결국 종말 심판관이신 주님에게 쫓겨날 것입니다. 악을 일삼는 자들이 행한 범법은 율법을 범한 잘못이 아니라 예수님의 윤리적 가르침을 지키지 않은 잘못입니다.

주님께서는 하가르가 고통 중에 부르짖는 소리를 들으십니다. 우리가 '주님 주님'하고 부르짖으면 우리의 애원을 들어주실 것입니다. 그러나 우리의 바람대로가 아니라 주님께서 세우신 계획대로 이루실 것입니다. 그것이 우리에게 더 좋은 것이기 때문입니다. 우리 앞에 놓여진 절망과 고통을 통해 주님께로 나아갈 수 있는 은총을 청해야 합니다.

+ 마태오 7, 21-29

1. 나는 인생을 살면서 어떤 것에 더 목표를 두며 살고 있습니까? 나는 영적 풍요보다 세속의 삶에 더 애착을 느끼며 물질적 풍요를 갈망하고 있지 않습니까? 오늘 말씀의 반석위에 지은 집과 모래위에 지은 집의 비유는 어떤 의미입니까?

2. 주님의 뜻을 실천한다는 것은 무엇입니까? 살면서 자주 걸려 넘어지는 이유가 약한 믿음 때문은 아닙니까? 나름대로 열심히 산다고 하지만 정작 누구를 위해 그리고 무엇을 위해서 하고 있는지 가장 중요한 부분을 놓치고 있는 것은 아닙니까? 흔들리지 않는 굳은 믿음을 갖기 위해서는 어떤 노력이 필요합니까?

The true disciple of Jesus

Today’s readings begin with the story of Abram & Sarai and their inability to have children. While this story on the surface touches upon the heartaches many today have experienced in their dream of becoming parents, it perhaps leads us to a much more universal truth – the importance of obediently pursuing God’s perfect will for our life.Abram certainly was a man of God. He had followed the Lord’s direction to return to the land of Canaan. I am confident he was filled with awe and joy when God promised to bless him - specifically God’s promise that his off-spring would receive the land and that all people would be blessed through him. However, even after receiving this direct message from God, Abram failed over and over again to stay in God’s will for his life. Consequences were suffered when he and Sarai cooked up a plan to protect themselves from the Pharaoh in Egypt. He apparently had forgotten God’s earlier promises. Amazingly in today’s reading in Genesis, we find that Abram and Sarai once again had lost faith that God could indeed fulfill His promises to them. From human logic, they had waited a long time for children and were becoming more impatient with each passing year - so they stepped in to try to help God out. The plan that they developed may have seemed logical from earthly standards, but it overlooked the fact that NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE WITH GOD ! Much suffering and unintended consequences resulted from the implementation of their plan.

In today’s Gospel lesson in the book of Matthew, Jesus clearly reminds us that thinking we are doing God’s will is not the same as actually following God’s will. We are required to carefully and faithfully “listen” to Jesus’ commands and “ACT” upon them. This requires work and diligence in studying God’s Word and constantly praying for His will to unfold in our lives. The story of the consequences of building our house upon a rock versus building it upon shifting sand seems so obvious. Yet Jesus used this simple story to remind us how easy it is for us all to try to do things our way (shifting sand) instead of trusting in the unshakable foundation of God’s amazing plan for each of our lives.

Prayer :

"Dear Heavenly Father, I see it played out so often in my life. Your plan is infinitely better than anything I could ever imagine. Help me to patiently keep my focus upon you through all of life’s challenges and to trust in the reality of your never failing presence and your amazing love for me. Help me to diligently pursue your truth each and every day. In the name of my Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ." Amen.

성 아리알두스(또는 아리알도) 부제는 당대 주로 이탈리아의 밀라노에서 행해진 성직매매에 대한 강력한 반대자요 개혁운동의 대표자로 알려졌다. 그로 인해 그는 파문되는 등 갖은 박해를 받다가 성직매매를 행한 밀라노의 대주교에 의해 살해되어 호수에 던져졌다. 그의 시신은 10개월 후 발견되었는데, 부패하지도 않았고 감미로운 향기가 났다. 그 후 그의 유해는 밀라노 주교좌 성당에 안치되었고, 1067년 교황 알렉산데르 2세(Alexander II)에 의해 순교자로 선포되었다. 그에 대한 공경은 1904년에 승인되었다.
