+ 사도행전 8, 26-40

< 여기에 물이 있습니다. 내가 세례를 받는 데에 무슨 장애가 있겠습니까? >

해설) 에티오피아 내시는 진리의 말씀에 깊이 감화됩니다. 예루살렘 순례를 갔다가 이사야 예언서를 읽은 에티오피아 내시는 주님 말씀을 통한 구원의 선물을 받습니다. 그는 필립포스의 설명을 듣고 진리이신 예수 그리스도를 발견합니다. 진리를 갈망하던 에티오피아 내시는 세례를 받고 기쁨에 넘쳐 자기 갈 길을 갑니다.

그 무렵 26 주님의 천사가 필리포스에게 말하였다. “일어나 예루살렘에서 가자로 내려가는 길을 따라 남쪽으로 가거라. 그것은 외딴길이다.” 27 필리포스는 일어나 길을 가다가 에티오피아 사람 하나를 만났다. 그는 에티오피아 여왕 칸다케의 내시로서, 그 여왕의 모든 재정을 관리하는 고관이었다. 그는 하느님께 경배하러 예루살렘에 왔다가 28 돌아가면서, 자기 수레에 앉아 이사야 예언서를 읽고 있었다. 29 그때에 성령께서 필리포스에게, “가서 저 수레에 바싹 다가서라.” 하고 이르셨다. 30 필리포스가 달려가 그 사람이 이사야 예언서를 읽는 것을 듣고서, “지금 읽으시는 것을 알아듣습니까?” 하고 물었다. 31 그러자 그는 “누가 나를 이끌어 주지 않으면 내가 어떻게 알아들을 수 있겠습니까?” 하고서, 필리포스에게 올라와 자기 곁에 앉으라고 청하였다. 32 그가 읽던 성경 구절은 이러하였다. “그는 양처럼 도살장으로 끌려갔다. 털 깎는 사람 앞에 잠자코 서 있는 어린양처럼 자기 입을 열지 않았다. 33 그는 굴욕 속에 권리를 박탈당하였다. 그의 생명이 이 세상에서 제거되어 버렸으니 누가 그의 후손을 이야기하랴?” 34 내시가 필리포스에게 물었다. “청컨대 대답해 주십시오. 이것은 예언자가 누구를 두고 하는 말입니까? 자기 자신입니까, 아니면 다른 사람입니까?” 35 필리포스는 입을 열어 이 성경 말씀에서 시작하여 예수님에 관한 복음을 그에게 전하였다. 36 이렇게 그들이 길을 가다가 물이 있는 곳에 이르자 내시가 말하였다. “여기에 물이 있습니다. 내가 세례를 받는 데에 무슨 장애가 있겠습니까?” (37)·38 그러고 나서 수레를 세우라고 명령하였다. 필리포스와 내시, 두 사람은 물로 내려갔다. 그리고 필리포스가 내시에게 세례를 주었다. 39 그들이 물에서 올라오자 주님의 성령께서 필리포스를 잡아채듯 데려가셨다. 그래서 내시는 그를 더 이상 보지 못하였지만 기뻐하며 제 갈 길을 갔다. 40 필리포스는 아스돗에 나타나, 카이사리아에 이르기까지 모든 고을을 두루 다니며 복음을 전하였다.

26 The angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, “Get up and head south on the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza, the desert route.” 27 So he got up and set out. Now there was an Ethiopian eunuch, a court official of the Candace,* that is, the queen of the Ethiopians, in charge of her entire treasury, who had come to Jerusalem to worship, 28 and was returning home. Seated in his chariot, he was reading the prophet Isaiah. 29 The Spirit said to Philip, “Go and join up with that chariot.” 30 Philip ran up and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?” 31 He replied, “How can I, unless someone instructs me?” So he invited Philip to get in and sit with him. 32 This was the scripture passage he was reading: “Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter, and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he opened not his mouth. 33 In his humiliation justice was denied him. Who will tell of his posterity? For his life is taken from the earth.” 34 Then the eunuch said to Philip in reply, “I beg you, about whom is the prophet saying this? About himself, or about someone else?” 35 Then Philip opened his mouth and, beginning with this scripture passage, he proclaimed Jesus to him. 36 As they traveled along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “Look, there is water. What is to prevent my being baptized?” 37, 38 Then he ordered the chariot to stop, and Philip and the eunuch both went down into the water, and he baptized him. 39 When they came out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, but continued on his way rejoicing. 40 Philip came to Azotus, and went about proclaiming the good news to all the towns until he reached Caesarea.

묵상) 에티오피아 내시는 거세당한 내시입니다. 율법에 따르면 내시는 장애인이기 때문에 구원의 공동체에 들지 못합니다. 그러나 예수님 안에서 구원 받는 데에는 아무 장애가 없습니다. 참 구원을 얻는데 요구되는 것은 오직 믿음뿐이기 때문입니다. 에티오피아 내시는 예수님을 믿음으로써 구원된 것입니다.

+ 요한 6, 44-51

< 나는 하늘에서 내려온 살아 있는 빵이다.>

해설) 그리스도를 믿는 사람은 누구나 영원한 생명을 얻습니다. 하느님께서 주신 은총으로서 믿는 믿음은 행동이 따르는 믿음입니다. 구원으로 부르시는 주님께 대한 인간의 응답은 참된 믿음입니다. 믿는 사람은 누구나 영원한 생명을 누립니다. 영원한 생명을 살기 위해서는 반드시 하늘에서 내려온 살아 있는 빵을 먹어야 합니다.

그때에 예수님께서 군중에게 말씀하셨다. 44 “나를 보내신 아버지께서 이끌어 주지 않으시면 아무도 나에게 올 수 없다. 그리고 나에게 오는 사람은 내가 마지막 날에 다시 살릴 것이다. 45 ‘그들은 모두 하느님께 가르침을 받을 것이다.’라고 예언서들에 기록되어 있다. 아버지의 말씀을 듣고 배운 사람은 누구나 나에게 온다. 46 그렇다고 하느님에게서 온 이 말고 누가 아버지를 보았다는 말은 아니다. 하느님에게서 온 이만 아버지를 보았다. 47 내가 진실로 진실로 너희에게 말한다. 믿는 사람은 영원한 생명을 얻는다. 48 나는 생명의 빵이다. 49 너희 조상들은 광야에서 만나를 먹고도 죽었다. 50 그러나 이 빵은 하늘에서 내려오는 것으로, 이 빵을 먹는 사람은 죽지 않는다. 51 나는 하늘에서 내려온 살아 있는 빵이다. 누구든지 이 빵을 먹으면 영원히 살 것이다. 내가 줄 빵은 세상에 생명을 주는 나의 살이다.”

Jesus said to the crowds: 44 "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draw him, and I will raise him on the last day. 45 It is written in the prophets: They shall all be taught by God. Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me. 46 Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God; he has seen the Father. 47 Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died; 50 this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my Flesh for the life of the world."

묵상) 교회를 찾는 사람들의 목적은 현실적 목적에서부터 치유나 안정을 찾는 기복 신앙적 기대와 천국을 확보해 놓으려는 내세 지향적 목적까지 다양합니다. 이런 자들에게 예수님은 썩어 없어질 양식을 찾지 말로 영원히 살게 하는 참된 양식을 얻도록 힘쓰라고 하십니다. 예수님이야말로 참 생명의 빵입니다.

에티오피아 내시는 부귀영화를 누리고 살지만 영적 갈증을 느낍니다. 그는 성경을 통해 주님을 갈망하게 되고, 그래서 주님은 그의 손을 잡아 이끄십니다. 우리가 태어나기도 전에 주님은 우리를 당신 자녀로 선택하십니다. 그러나 진실로 주님을 믿고 애타게 찾는 사람만이 영생을 누릴 것입니다.

생명의 빵(4)

+ 요한 6, 44-51

1. 하늘에서 내려 온 영원히 죽지 않을 "생명의 빵"과 "살아있는 빵"은 썩어 없어질 세상의 빵과 어떤 차이가 있습니까? 그리고 그 빵을 먹는 사람들을 생각해 보십시오. 나는 세상에서 어떤 빵을 먹으며 살고 있습니까? 예수님께서 당신을 살아있는 빵이라고 말씀하시는 의미는 무엇입니까?

2. 하느님께서 이끌어 주지 않으시면 아무도 예수님께 갈 수 없다는 말씀은 무엇입니까? 예수님을 믿고 따를 때 비로소 부활로 영원한 생명을 얻게 될 것이라는 예수님의 말씀은 내게 어떤 요구를 하고 있습니까? 믿음, 부활, 그리고 생명의 빵에 대해 묵상해 보십시오

First Reading : Acts 8:26-40 Holy Gospel : John 6:44-51

Drawn to Jesus

The Acts of the Apostles today tells of St Philip and his work of preaching and baptising in the name of Christ as he travelled. On one of his journeys he meets an Ethiopian official who is having difficulty understanding some of the texts from the Prophet Isaiah. Philip travels with the official and begins to tell him about Christ as the suffering servant the official has been reading about. The official then asks for baptism.

Today’s gospel continues the theme of yesterday’s text – Christ is the bread of life and we are all called to believe in him in order to have eternal life.

This Scripture passage reveals to us a wonderful spiritual principle we need to understand and live if we are to grow close to God. It’s the principle of being drawn to Jesus by the Father.First of all, it’s important to understand the first part of what Jesus says: “No one can come to me unless…” This tells us that coming to Jesus in faith, growing in that faith, and growing in our love of God is not something we can do on our own. Coming to faith is a response to God’s action in our life.

This is important to understand if we wish to establish an authentic relationship with Christ because it reveals to us the fact that we have to let God take the first step in that relationship. When we let Him do this, it’s our responsibility to then respond. Of course this does not mean we just sit back in a passive way waiting for God to reach out. God is constantly reaching out, constantly speaking and constantly drawing us to Himself. So our first responsibility is to tune into His gentle “wooing.” This comes in the form of gentle promptings of grace inviting us to turn more completely to Him and to surrender more fully each and every day.

In our busy world it’s so very easy to let ourselves become distracted by the many competing voices. It’s easy to hear the pulling, and even pushing, of the world and all its enticements. The world has become quite good at penetrating our short attention spans and offering quick satisfactions that ultimately leave us empty.

But God’s voice and His invitation are quite different. They are found in interior silence. However, we need not be in a monastery in order to achieve this interior silence. Rather, it’s achieved by faithful periods of prayer each day, and a formed habit of turning to God in all things. It’s achieved when we respond to God’s calling, and then do it again, and again, and so forth. This builds a habit of being drawn, hearing, responding and being drawn in even closer so as to respond again.

Reflect, today, upon how well you listen to God. Try to find at least a few minutes (or more) of silence today. Close your eyes and listen. Listen to God speaking to you. When He draws you, respond to Him with much generosity. This is the best choice you can make each day!

Prayer : "Lord Jesus, you are the living bread which sustains me in this life. May I always hunger for the bread which comes from heaven and find in it the nourishment and strength I need to love and serve you wholeheartedly. May I always live in the joy, peace, and unity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, both now and in the age to come". - Amen

이탈리아 북부 로디에서 태어난 야고보(Jacobus)는 젊어서부터 신앙생활에 대한 관심보다는 그림을 그리고 노래 부르며, 악기를 연주하고 춤추는데 정신이 팔려 있었다. 더욱이 그는 이미 카타리나(Catharina)라는 여인과 결혼한 상태였다. 그러던 중 심각한 전염병이 그 도시를 휩쓸었을 때 그는 고향을 떠나 장인이 사는 곳으로 갔다.

그곳에서 그는 우연히 어느 성당에 들어갔다가 십자가를 바라보면서, “그리스도가 더 크냐? 아니면 내가 더 크냐?”는 농담을 옆 사람에게 던졌다. 그러고는 그 말을 마치기가 무섭게 그는 넘어졌다. 그리고 서서히 일어난 뒤에 그는 전혀 다른 사람이 되어 있었다. 그는 자신을 편태하면서 지난날에 쾌락만을 추구했던 삶을 속죄하고, 대부분의 시간을 성당에서 지내면서 성화를 그리거나 병든 사제를 도우면서 라틴어를 배웠다. 남편의 생활에 감명을 받은 아내도 회개함으로써 이 부부는 함께 작은 형제회 3회원으로 입회하였다. 그 후 야고보는 사제로 서품되었다. 그는 병자와 전쟁포로를 위하여 일하면서 여생을 보냈다. 그는 올도(Oldo)의 야고보로도 불린다.
