Saturday of the Third Week of Lent
+ 호세아 6, 1-6
< 내가 바라는 것은 희생 제물이 아니라 신의다. >
해설) 호세아의 아내 고메르는 자녀 셋을 낳은 뒤 남편을 버리고 바알 신전의 여사제가 됩니다. 호세아는 신전의 관리자에게 돈을 주고 그녀를 데려다가 다시 아내로 맞아들입니다. 이렇게 남편이 아내를 사랑하듯이 주님께서 이스라엘을 사랑하고 있다는 것을 체험한 호세아는 '주님의 참사랑'을 전합니다.
1 자, 주님께 돌아가자. 그분께서 우리를 잡아 찢으셨지만 아픈 데를 고쳐 주시고 우리를 치셨지만 싸매 주시리라. 2 이틀 뒤에 우리를 살려 주시고 사흘째 되는 날에 우리를 일으키시어 우리가 그분 앞에서 살게 되리라. 3 그러니 주님을 알자. 주님을 알도록 힘쓰자. 그분의 오심은 새벽처럼 어김없다. 그분께서는 우리에게 비처럼, 땅을 적시는 봄비처럼 오시리라. 4 에프라임아, 내가 너희를 어찌하면 좋겠느냐? 유다야, 내가 너희를 어찌하면 좋겠느냐? 너희의 신의는 아침 구름 같고 이내 사라지고 마는 이슬 같다. 5 그래서 나는 예언자들을 통하여 그들을 찍어 넘어뜨리고 내 입에서 나가는 말로 그들을 죽여 나의 심판이 빛처럼 솟아오르게 하였다. 6 정녕 내가 바라는 것은 희생 제물이 아니라 신의다. 번제물이 아니라 하느님을 아는 예지다.

1 "Come, let us return to the LORD, it is he who has rent, but he will heal us; he has struck us, but he will bind our wounds. 2 He will revive us after two days; on the third day he will raise us up, to live in his presence. 3 Let us know, let us strive to know the LORD; as certain as the dawn is his coming, and his judgment shines forth like the light of day! He will come to us like the rain, like spring rain that waters the earth." 4 What can I do with you, Ephraim? What can I do with you, Judah? Your piety is like a morning cloud, like the dew that early passes away. 5 For this reason I smote them through the prophets, I slew them by the words of my mouth; 6 For it is love that I desire, not sacrifice, and knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.
묵상) 주님을 아는 것은 출애굽과 시나이 산의 계약을 실천하는 것입니다. 주님께서 기뻐하시는 것은 동물을 잡아 바치는 제사가 아니라 주님을 하느님으로 올바로 알고 섬기는 것입니다. 진정 주님을 믿고 사랑한다는 것은 주님의 진리와 정의 안에서 언제나 어디서나 올바른 일을 행하는 것입니다.
+ 루카 18, 9-14
< 바리사이가 아니라 세리가 의롭게 되어 집으로 돌아갔다. >
해설) 바리사이는 율법을 철저히 지키는 평신도입니다. 세리는 세금을 거두어들이는 사람인데 대부분 부정직하고 이방인과 자주 접촉하기 때문에 직업상 죄인 취급을 받습니다. 기도는 주님과의 대화입니다. 바리사이는 주님께 기도를 드린다고 하지만 사실은 자신을 향한 독백과 덤으로 행한 선행을 늘어놓고 있습니다.
그때에 9 예수님께서는 스스로 의롭다고 자신하며 다른 사람들을 업신여기는 자들에게 이 비유를 말씀하셨다. 10 “두 사람이 기도하러 성전에 올라갔다. 한 사람은 바리사이였고 다른 사람은 세리였다. 11 바리사이는 꼿꼿이 서서 혼잣말로 이렇게 기도하였다. ‘오, 하느님! 제가 다른 사람들, 강도 짓을 하는 자나 불의를 저지르는 자나 간음을 하는 자와 같지 않고 저 세리와도 같지 않으니, 하느님께 감사드립니다. 12 저는 일주일에 두 번 단식하고 모든 소득의 십일조를 바칩니다.’ 13 그러나 세리는 멀찍이 서서 하늘을 향하여 눈을 들 엄두도 내지 못하고 가슴을 치며 말하였다. ‘오, 하느님! 이 죄인을 불쌍히 여겨 주십시오.’ 14 내가 너희에게 말한다. 그 바리사이가 아니라 이 세리가 의롭게 되어 집으로 돌아갔다. 누구든지 자신을 높이는 이는 낮아지고 자신을 낮추는 이는 높아질 것이다.”

9 Jesus addressed this parable to those who were convinced of their own righteousness and despised everyone else. 10 “Two people went up to the temple area to pray; one was a Pharisee and the other was a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee took up his position and spoke this prayer to himself, ‘O God, I thank you that I am not like the rest of humanity — greedy, dishonest, adulterous — or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week, and I pay tithes on my whole income.’ 13 But the tax collector stood off at a distance and would not even raise his eyes to heaven but beat his breast and prayed, ‘O God, be merciful to me a sinner.’ 14 I tell you, the latter went home justified, not the former; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”
묵상) 유다인들은 성전에서 두 손을 높이 쳐들고 하늘을 바라보면서 기도합니다. 그러나 세리는 성전 멀찍이 서서 하늘을 바라 볼 생각도 못하고 자기 가슴을 치며 기도합니다. 주님께서는 바리사이가 아니라 세리를 의인으로 간주하십니다. 누구든지 자기를 높이면 낮추어지고 자기를 낮추면 높여질 것입니다.
기도 중에 자신의 바람이나 희망을 말하기도 하고 하소연하기도 합니다. 기도는 주님과의 대화입니다. 기도하는 동안 주님과의 만남을 가져야 합니다. 주님께서 먼저 말씀하십니다. 생각도 말도 행동도 멈춘 채 주님의 말씀에 귀를 기울여 봅니다. 주님의 뜻이 우리를 통해 이루어지는 삶이 가장 복된 삶일 것입니다.

바리사이와 세리의 비유
+ 루카 18, 9-14
1. 바리사이는 무엇을 기도했으며 반면 세리의 기도는 어떠했습니까? 왜 예수님은 열심히 기도하는 바리사이보다 숨어 회개하던 세리가 의롭게 되었다고 하십니까? 바리사이의 기도에는 어떤 문제가 있었습니까? 오늘 1독서의 호세아 예언서를 다시 읽어보면서 진정 하느님께서 우리에게 바라시는 것이 무엇인지 찾아보십시오.
2. 나의 기도는 어떻습니까? 나는 무엇을 구하며 기도합니까? 나의 기도는 감사의 기도보다 청원의 기도가 더 많지는 않았습니까? 바리사이와 세리의 기도를 비교해보며 그동안 나는 어떤 기도를 하고 있었는지 잠시 머물러 보십시오. 겸손은 내게 어떤 의미입니까? 바리사이처럼 나는 늘 자신을 높이려 하지는 않았습니까? 오늘 하루 속에서 나의 모습은 어떠하였는지 성찰해 보십시오.

Pharisee & Tax collector
We read in the prophet Hosea that what God wants from us is true love – not sacrifices and fleeting emotions when we are in difficulty. We must always love him and seek to do his will with sincerity. We must never be superficial people when it comes to God.
In the gospel, Jesus tells the story of two men in the Temple – one who went to the front and told God how good he was, believing that his goodness and righteousness was of his own creation; the other who stayed at the back and asked God for mercy acknowledging that he was a sinner. We are called to be like the second man – to be honest before God and to acknowledge that we do wrong. We are also reminded that all goodness comes from God and not from ourselves and this is what the tax collector realised and which made him righteous before God – God has no time for insincerity. The lesson put before us today is that true love for God is genuine and humble.
Prayer :
"Lord, may your love control my thoughts and actions that I may do what is pleasing to you. Show me where I lack charity, mercy, and forgiveness toward my neighbor. And help me to be generous in giving to others what you have so generously given to me." - Amen.

이탈리아 토리노 출신인 성 레오나르두스 무리알도(Leonardus Murialdo, 또는 레오나르도)는 교구 사제였으나, 청소년과 노동자의 복지 향상에 큰 관심을 가지고 계속 노력하다가 ‘젊은 노동자들을 위한 집’을 세운 뒤 ‘성 요셉회’를 설립하였다. 그는 1963년 복자품에 올랐으며, 1970년 교황 바오로 6세(Paulus VI)에 의해 성인품에 올랐다.
