Monday of the Fourth Week in Ordinary Time
+ 히브리서 11,32-40
< 그들은 믿음으로 여러 나라를 정복하였습니다. 하느님께서는 우리를 위하여 더 좋은 것을 내다보십니다.>
해설) 그리스도교의 믿음은 구약의 선택된 하느님 백성 안에 그 뿌리를 두고 있습니다. 그리스도교 신자는 주님의 선택된 백성의 역사를 이어받은 상속자입니다. 선택된 백성은 그리스도를 향해 역사를 이끌어 가도록 주님께서 이끌어 주십니다. 주님께 대한 믿음은 주님께서 우리 삶을 주관하신다는 믿음입니다.
형제 여러분, 32 내가 무슨 말을 더 해야 하겠습니까? 기드온, 바락, 삼손, 입타, 다윗과 사무엘, 그리고 예언자들에 대하여 말하려면 시간이 모자랄 것입니다. 33 그들은 믿음으로 여러 나라를 정복하였고 정의를 실천하였으며, 약속된 것을 얻었고 사자들의 입을 막았으며, 34 맹렬한 불을 껐고 칼날을 벗어났으며, 약하였지만 강해졌고, 전쟁 때에 용맹한 전사가 되었으며 외국 군대를 물리쳤습니다. 35 어떤 여인들은 죽었다가 부활한 식구들을 다시 맞아들이기도 하였습니다. 어떤 이들은 더 나은 부활을 누리려고, 석방도 받아들이지 않은 채 고문을 받았습니다. 36 또 어떤 이들은 조롱과 채찍질을 당하고, 결박과 투옥을 당하기까지 하였습니다. 37 또 돌에 맞아 죽기도 하고, 톱으로 잘리기도 하고, 칼에 맞아 죽기도 하였습니다. 그들은 궁핍과 고난과 학대를 겪으며, 양가죽이나 염소 가죽만 두른 채 돌아다녔습니다. 38 그들에게는 세상이 가치 없는 곳이었습니다. 그래서 광야와 산과 동굴과 땅굴을 헤매고 다녔습니다. 39 이들은 모두 믿음으로 인정을 받기는 하였지만, 약속된 것을 얻지는 못하였습니다. 40 하느님께서 우리를 위하여 더 좋은 것을 내다보셨기 때문에, 우리 없이 그들만 완전하게 될 수가 없었던 것입니다.

Brothers and sisters: 32 What more shall I say? I have not time to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets, 33 who by faith conquered kingdoms, did what was righteous, obtained the promises; they closed the mouths of lions, 34 put out raging fires, escaped the devouring sword; out of weakness they were made powerful, became strong in battle, and turned back foreign invaders. 35 Women received back their dead through resurrection. Some were tortured and would not accept deliverance, in order to obtain a better resurrection. 36 Others endured mockery, scourging, even chains and imprisonment. 37 They were stoned, sawed in two, put to death at sword's point; they went about in skins of sheep or goats, needy, afflicted, tormented. 38 The world was not worthy of them.They wandered about in deserts and on mountains, in caves and in crevices in the earth. 39 Yet all these, though approved because of their faith,did not receive what had been promised. 40 God had foreseen something better for us, so that without us they should not be made perfect.
묵상) 믿음은 우리가 바라는 것을 보증해 주고 볼 수 없는 것을 확증해 줍니다. 선택된 백성도 이 믿음으로 주님의 인정을 받습니다. 믿음이 없이는 주님을 기쁘게 해 드릴 수 없습니다. 주님께로 나아가는 사람은 진정 주님이 살아 계시다는 것과 주님께서 당신을 찾는 사람에게 은총과 축복을 주신다는 것을 믿어야 합니다.
+ 마르코 5,1-20
< 더러운 영아, 그 사람에게서 나가라.>
해설) 예수님께서 마귀 떼를 쫓아내십니다. 수가 많아서 군대라고 불리는 더러운 악령들은 예수님의 한 말씀으로 쫓겨나 돼지 떼 속으로 들어가고, 더러운 악령 들린 사람은 말끔히 나아 예수님의 놀라운 일을 전합니다. 그는 예수님께서 자기에게 베풀어주신 일을 여러 지방에 두루 알립니다. 이 말을 들은 사람은 모두 놀랄 뿐입니다.
그때에 예수님과 제자들은 1 호수 건너편 게라사인들의 지방으로 갔다. 2 예수님께서 배에서 내리시자마자, 더러운 영이 들린 사람이 무덤에서 나와 그분께 마주 왔다. 3 그는 무덤에서 살았는데, 어느 누구도 더 이상 그를 쇠사슬로 묶어 둘 수가 없었다. 4 이미 여러 번 족쇄와 쇠사슬로 묶어 두었으나, 그는 쇠사슬도 끊고 족쇄도 부수어 버려 아무도 그를 휘어잡을 수가 없었다. 5 그는 밤낮으로 무덤과 산에서 소리를 지르고 돌로 제 몸을 치곤 하였다. 6 그는 멀리서 예수님을 보고 달려와 그 앞에 엎드려 절하며, 7 큰 소리로“지극히 높으신 하느님의 아들 예수님, 당신께서 저와 무슨 상관이 있습니까? 하느님의 이름으로 당신께 말합니다. 저를 괴롭히지 말아 주십시오.”하고 외쳤다. 8 예수님께서 그에게“더러운 영아, 그 사람에게서 나가라.”하고 말씀하셨기 때문이다. 9 예수님께서 그에게“네 이름이 무엇이냐?”하고 물으시자, 그가“제 이름은 군대입니다. 저희 수가 많기 때문입니다.”하고 대답하였다. 10 그러고 나서 예수님께 자기들을 그 지방 밖으로 쫓아내지 말아 달라고 간곡히 청하였다. 11 마침 그곳 산 쪽에는 놓아기르는 많은 돼지 떼가 있었다. 12 그래서 더러운 영들이 예수님께,“ 저희를 돼지들에게 보내시어 그 속으로 들어가게 해 주십시오.”하고 청하였다. 13 예수님께서 허락하시니 더러운 영들이 나와 돼지들 속으로 들어갔다. 그러자 이천 마리쯤 되는 돼지 떼가 호수를 향해 비탈을 내리 달려, 호수에 빠져 죽고 말았다. 14 돼지를 치던 이들이 달아나 그 고을과 여러 촌락에 알렸다. 사람들은 무슨 일이 일어났는지 보려고 왔다. 15 그들은 예수님께 와서 마귀 들렸던 사람, 곧 군대라는 마귀가 들렸던 사람이 옷을 입고 제정신으로 앉아 있는 것을 보고는 그만 겁이 났다. 16 그 일을 본 사람들이 마귀 들렸던 이와 돼지들에게 무슨 일이 일어났는지 그들에게 이야기해 주었다. 17 그러자 그들은 예수님께 저희 고장에서 떠나 주십사고 청하기 시작하였다. 18 그리하여 예수님께서 배에 오르시자, 마귀 들렸던 이가 예수님께 같이 있게 해 주십사고 청하였다. 19 그러나 예수님께서는 허락하지 않으시고 그에게 말씀하셨다. “집으로 가족들에게 돌아가, 주님께서 너에게 해 주신 일과 자비를 베풀어 주신 일을 모두 알려라.” 20 그래서 그는 물러가, 예수님께서 자기에게 해 주신 모든 일을 데카폴리스 지방에 선포하기 시작하였다. 그러자 사람들이 모두 놀랐다.

1 Jesus and his disciples came to the other side of the sea, to the territory of the Gerasenes. 2 When he got out of the boat, at once a man from the tombs who had an unclean spirit met him. 3 The man had been dwelling among the tombs, and no one could restrain him any longer, even with a chain. 4 In fact, he had frequently been bound with shackles and chains, but the chains had been pulled apart by him and the shackles smashed, and no one was strong enough to subdue him. 5 Night and day among the tombs and on the hillsides he was always crying out and bruising himself with stones. 6 Catching sight of Jesus from a distance, he ran up and prostrated himself before him, 7 crying out in a loud voice, "What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I adjure you by God, do not torment me!" 8 (He had been saying to him, "Unclean spirit, come out of the man!") 9 He asked him, "What is your name?" He replied, "Legion is my name. There are many of us." 10 And he pleaded earnestly with him not to drive them away from that territory. 11 Now a large herd of swine was feeding there on the hillside. 12 And they pleaded with him, "Send us into the swine. Let us enter them." 13 And he let them, and the unclean spirits came out and entered the swine. The herd of about two thousand rushed down a steep bank into the sea, where they were drowned. 14 The swineherds ran away and reported the incident in the town and throughout the countryside. And people came out to see what had happened. 15 As they approached Jesus, they caught sight of the man who had been possessed by Legion, sitting there clothed and in his right mind. And they were seized with fear. 16 Those who witnessed the incident explained to them what had happened to the possessed man and to the swine. 17 Then they began to beg him to leave their district. 18 As he was getting into the boat,the man who had been possessed pleaded to remain with him. 19 But Jesus would not permit him but told him instead, "Go home to your family and announce to them all that the Lord in his pity has done for you." 20 Then the man went off and began to proclaim in the Decapolis what Jesus had done for him; and all were amazed.
묵상) 예수님께서 우리 마음 안의 마귀 떼를 몰아내십니다. 수가 많아서 군대라고 불리는 더러운 악령들과 무질서한 애착에 사로잡힌 우리 마음의 악령들도 예수님의 한 말씀으로 물러납니다. 온갖 탐욕과 물질에 얽매인 현대인들은 예수님께로 나아와 도움을 청해야 합니다. 그러면 예수님께서 우리에게 자비를 베풀어 주실 것입니다.
예수님께서는 더러운 악령에 사로잡힌 사람을 자유롭게 해 주십니다. 주님은 우리에게 참 자유를 주십니다. 그리고 우리를 죄와 죽음의 종살이에서 해방시켜 주십니다. 그러나 대부분의 사람들은 또 다시 어디엔가 묶여 있기를 원합니다. 우리의 자유 의지로 주님을 선택한다면 주님은 우리에게 평화와 기쁨과 진정한 자유를 누리게 하실 것입니다.

마귀들과 돼지 떼
+ 마르코 3, 22-30
1. 예수님께서는 마귀 들린 사람을 말씀 한마디로 치유하십니다. 마귀들은 왜 예수님을 두려워합니까? 내 안에도 내가 모르는 어두움이 탐욕, 거짓, 나태, 미움, 분노, 슬픔, 걱정, 질투, 혹은 악습 등의 모습으로 들어와 나의 생각과 행동을 지배하고 있지는 않습니까?
2. 나는 주님으로부터 치유의 은총을 경험한 적이 있습니까? 그렇다면 그 은혜에 감사하기 위해 나는 무엇을 하고 있습니까? 은총을 경험했지만 어느 순간부터 게을러져 다시 어두움을 받아들이고 있지 않았습니까? 내가 기도하지 않고 한눈팔고 있을 때 다시 내 안으로 들어오려고 기회를 노리고 있는 마귀의 모습을 상상해 보십시오.

First Reading : Hebrews 11:32-40
Holy Gospel : Mark 5:1-20
In our first reading from the letter to the Hebrews, the author speaks of some of the greatest heroes of the Jewish people – men who fought battles and conquered their enemies. He also speaks of the prophets who stood for the truth and did not flinch in the face of torture. Some were great warriors while others were weak but they all lived by faith, and because they had faith they achieved great things.
In the Gospel, Jesus cures a demoniac by casting out the evil spirits that had possessed him. The spirits instead entered a herd of pigs and were killed. The people were amazed when they saw this but were also terrified and asked Jesus to leave their area. Both of our readings speak to us about faith. The first reading speaks of those who had faith and lived by it while the Gospel speaks of those who had little faith and did not want what faith they had to grow. Perhaps it was because they realised the conversion they would have to undergo if they were to become people of faith. We know what faith can do and what reward lies in store for us. We are given a choice – to be people of faith and enter heaven, or to be people who turn their backs on God, refusing to grow.
Prayer :
"Lord Jesus, unbind me that I may love you wholly and walk in the freedom of your way of life and holiness. May there be nothing which keeps me from the joy of living in your presence." Amen.

독일의 마인츠 출신인 듯한 라바누스 마우루스(또는 라바노 마우로)는 헤센(Hessen) 지방 풀다(Fulda)의 수도원 학교와 프랑스 투르(Tours)에서 공부하였고, 풀다로 다시 돌아온 후에 수도자가 되었다. 그는 특히 초기 교부들과 성서에 대하여 폭넓은 지식을 가졌던 것으로 유명하였다. 그는 815년에 사제로 서품되었고, 822년에는 원장이 되어 여러 교회와 수도원들을 건설하였다. 또한 그는 스스로 원장직을 사임하여 지내던 중 71세의 나이로 마인츠의 주교로 임명되자, 교구 사제들에게 수도자와 같은 엄격한 규율을 적용시켜 쇄신코자 하였고, 고트샬크(Gottschalk)의 이단적인 가르침을 봉쇄하였다. 그는 순교록을 기술하였고 또 유명한 “오소서, 성령이여!”(Veni Creator Spiritus)를 짓는 등 많은 찬미가와 시를 썼다.
