Monday of the Seventeenth Week in Ordinary Time
+ 예레미야서 13,1-11
< 이 백성은 아무짝에도 쓸모없는 이 띠처럼 되고 말 것이다. >
해설) 주님의 계명에 충실해야 할 이스라엘이 오히려 주님 말씀을 거역하고 거부하며 악한 생각을 굽히지 않고 멋대로 삽니다. 주님만을 섬겨야할 이스라엘이 오히려 다른 신들을 따라 다니며 섬기며 예배합니다. 그래서 이스라엘 백성은 썩은 아마포 띠처럼 아무 쓸모도 없게 된 것입니다.
1 주님께서 나에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. “가서 아마포 띠를 사, 허리에 두르고 물에 담그지 마라.” 2 그래서 주님의 분부대로 나는 띠를 사서 허리에 둘렀다. 3 그러자 주님의 말씀이 두 번째로 나에게 내렸다. 4 “네가 사서 허리에 두른 띠를 가지고 일어나 유프라테스 강으로 가거라. 그리고 거기 바위 틈새에 띠를 숨겨 두어라.” 5 주님께서 나에게 명령하신 대로, 나는 유프라테스 강으로 가서 띠를 숨겼다. 6 여러 날이 지난 뒤에, 주님께서 나에게 말씀하셨다. “일어나 유프라테스 강으로 가서, 내가 너더러 거기 숨겨 두라고 명령한 띠를 가져오너라.” 7 그래서 유프라테스 강으로 가 흙을 헤치고, 숨겨 둔 곳에서 띠를 꺼냈다. 그런데 그 띠가 썩어서 아무짝에도 쓸모없게 되었다. 8 그때 주님의 말씀이 다시 나에게 내렸다. 9 주님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. “나도 유다의 교만과 예루살렘의 큰 교만을 그처럼 썩혀 버리겠다. 10 이 사악한 백성이 내 말을 듣기를 마다하고, 제 고집스러운 마음에 따라 다른 신들을 좇아 다니며 그것들을 섬기고 예배하였으니, 아무짝에도 쓸모없는 이 띠처럼 되고 말 것이다. 11 이 띠가 사람의 허리에 붙어 있듯이, 내가 온 이스라엘 집안과 온 유다 집안을 나에게 붙어 있게 한 것은 ─ 주님의 말씀이다. ─ 그들이 내 백성이 되어 명성과 칭송과 영광을 얻게 하려고 한 것이다. 그러나 그들은 순종하지 않았다.”

1 The LORD said to me: Go buy yourself a linen loincloth; wear it on your loins, but do not put it in water. 2 I bought the loincloth, as the LORD commanded, and put it on. 3 A second time the word of the LORD came to me thus: 4 Take the loincloth which you bought and are wearing, and go now to the Parath; there hide it in a cleft of the rock. 5 Obedient to the LORD's command, I went to the Parath and buried the loincloth. 6 After a long interval, the LORD said to me: Go now to the Parath and fetch the loincloth which I told you to hide there. 7 Again I went to the Parath, sought out and took the loincloth from the place where I had hid it.But it was rotted, good for nothing! 8 Then the message came to me from the LORD: 9 Thus says the LORD: So also I will allow the pride of Judah to rot, the great pride of Jerusalem. 10 This wicked people who refuse to obey my words, who walk in the stubbornness of their hearts, and follow strange gods to serve and adore them, shall be like this loincloth which is good for nothing. 11 For, as close as the loincloth clings to a man's loins, so had I made the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah cling to me, says the LORD; to be my people, my renown, my praise, my beauty. But they did not listen.
묵상) 아마포 띠가 썩어서 아무 쓸모가 없듯이 이스라엘 백성도 아무짝에도 쓸모없는 민족이 된 것입니다. 이스라엘 백성은 악한 생각을 굽히지 않고 멋대로 살았으며 다른 신들을 따라 섬기며 결국 썩은 아마포 띠처럼 아무짝에도 쓸모없게 된 것입니다. 그래도 예레미야는 이 백성을 용서해 주시고 자비를 베풀어주시기를 주님께 간청합니다.

< 겨자씨는 나무가 되고 하늘의 새들이 그 가지에 깃들인다.>
해설) 겨자씨는 좁쌀보다 작습니다. 과학적으로 관찰하면 그보다 더 작은 씨앗이 많을 것입니다. 이스라엘의 관습에 따라서 겨자씨를 가장 작은 씨앗이라고 했을 뿐입니다. 겨자는 일년초로서 이스라엘에서는 보통 일 미터 그리고 갈릴래아 호수 주변에서는 약 삼 미터까지 자랍니다. 연한 잎과 줄기는 먹기도 하고 열매는 양념으로 씁니다.
그때에 31 예수님께서 또 다른 비유를 들어 군중에게 말씀하셨다. “하늘 나라는 겨자씨와 같다. 어떤 사람이 그것을 가져다가 자기 밭에 뿌렸다. 32 겨자씨는 어떤 씨앗보다도 작지만, 자라면 어떤 풀보다도 커져 나무가 되고, 하늘의 새들이 와서 그 가지에 깃들인다.” 33 예수님께서 또 다른 비유를 그들에게 말씀하셨다. “하늘 나라는 누룩과 같다. 어떤 여자가 그것을 가져다가 밀가루 서 말 속에 집어넣었더니, 마침내 온통 부풀어 올랐다.” 34 예수님께서는 군중에게 이 모든 것을 비유로 말씀하시고, 비유를 들지 않고는 그들에게 아무것도 말씀하지 않으셨다. 35 예언자를 통하여 “나는 입을 열어 비유로 말하리라. 세상 창조 때부터 숨겨진 것을 드러내리라.” 하신 말씀이 이루어지려고 그리된 것이다.

31 Jesus proposed a parable to the crowds."The Kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that a person took and sowed in a field. 32 It is the smallest of all the seeds, yet when full-grown it is the largest of plants. It becomes a large bush, and the birds of the sky come and dwell in its branches." 33 He spoke to them another parable. "The Kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed with three measures of wheat flour until the whole batch was leavened." 34 All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables. He spoke to them only in parables, 35 to fulfill what had been said through the prophet: I will open my mouth in parables, I will announce what has lain hidden from the foundation of the world.
묵상) 하느님 나라는 겨자 씨앗에 비길 수 있습니다. 그 작은 씨앗이 자라면 엄청나게 크게 됩니다. 하느님 나라는 누룩과 같습니다. 그 누룩을 밀가루에 넣으니 엄청나게 부풀어 오릅니다. 하느님 나라는 겨자 씨앗과 누룩처럼 처음에는 미미하게 시작하지만 종말에는 엄청난 결과를 가져옵니다. 하느님 나라의 종말은 엄청날 것입니다.
한 사람의 미소가 상대방에게 좋은 기분을 갖게 합니다. 그 작은 미소가 점점 번져갑니다. 오늘 내가 겪은 좋은 기억이 어떤 사람의 작은 미소나 친절한 말에서 시작될 수 있습니다. 사회를 밝게 하는데 큰 노력이나 많은 돈이 필요하지 않을 수도 있습니다. 우리가 예수님 때문에 행하는 작은 선행이 우리 사회를 밝게 만들 것입니다.

겨자씨와 누룩의 비유
+ 마태오 13, 31-35
1. 내 마음 안에 주님께서 어떤 믿음의 씨앗을 심어놓으셨나요? 과거의 내 믿음은 아주 작은 겨자씨와 같았지만 내 삶이 주님과 함께할 때 무럭무럭 자라나는 것을 느낄 수 있습니까? 나는 이 믿음의 나무에 열매를 맺게 하기 위하여 어떻게 해야 합니까?
2. 나는 그리스도인으로서 세상 속에 하느님의 사랑을 알리기 위하여 어떤 누룩의 역할을 하고 있습니까? 나의 작은 선행이 세상을 조금씩 살기 좋은 곳으로 바꾸고 있음을 체험한 적이 있습니까?

Parable of the mustard seed and the leaven
In our first reading today from the Prophet Jeremiah, we see that the Lord is dissatisfied with his people because they have not been faithful to him. He likens them to a rotting linen cloth which is good for nothing and which eventually decays to nothing. It is possible that Jeremiah is referring to the Babylonian captivity where the people would go into exile near the river Euphrates.
Again in the Gospel we see Jesus speaking to the people through parables because there are those who do not want to listen to his message and understand it. Those who do want to hear the word and believe will easily understand the meaning of the message and conform their lives to the truth, unlike the people in the first reading.
What can mustard seeds and leaven teach us about the kingdom of God? The tiny mustard seed literally grew to be a tree which attracted numerous birds because they loved the little black mustard seed it produced. God's kingdom works in a similar fashion. It starts from the smallest beginnings in the hearts of men and women who are receptive to God's word. And it works unseen and causes a transformation from within. Leaven is another powerful agent of change. A lump of dough left to itself remains just what it is, a lump of dough. But when the leaven is added to it a transformation takes place which produces rich and wholesome bread when heated -- the staple of life for humans. The kingdom of God produces a transformation in those who receive the new life which Jesus Christ offers. When we yield to Jesus Christ, our lives are transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit who dwells in us. Paul the Apostle says, "we have this treasure in earthen vessels, to show that the transcendent power belongs to God and not to us" (2 Cor. 4:7). Do you believe in the transforming power of the Holy Spirit?
Prayer "Lord, fill me with your Holy Spirit and transform me into the Christ-like holiness you desire. Increase my zeal for your kingdom and instill in me a holy desire to live for your greater glory." - Amen

이탈리아 에밀리아로마냐의 이몰라(Imola) 출신인 성 베드로 크리솔로구스(Petrus Chrysologus, 또는 베드로 크리솔로고)는 이몰라의 주교 코르넬리우스(Cornelius)의 문하에서 공부하고 부제로 서품되었다. 그는 교황 성 식스투스 3세(Sixtus III)에 의하여 라벤나의 주교로 임명되었는데, 이 같은 엉뚱한 일은 교황이 환시를 보았기 때문이라고 한다. 그 결과 베드로는 규율이 극도로 이완된 교구를 크게 일신하였음으로 교황의 환시는 증명되었다.
그는 자선활동으로 매우 유명하였고, 또 뛰어난 설교를 하였으므로 ‘크리솔로고’라는 별명을 얻었다. 그의 설교에 감명을 받은 황녀 갈라 플라시디아는 그를 여러 방면으로 도왔다. 또한 그는 에우티케스(Eutyches)를 권고하여 콘스탄티노플 시노드(Synod of Constantinople)의 파문 결정에 대하여 자신을 변호하지 않게 하였으며, 오세르(Auxerre)의 성 게르마누스(Germanus)의 장례식을 집전하였다. 그는 1729년 교황 베네딕투스 13세(Benedictus XIII)에 의하여 교회학자로 선언되었다.
