풍요로움 (Plenty)
오늘은 연중 제17주일입니다. 오늘 성경 말씀의 주제는 풍요로움입니다. 예수님께서는 당신에게 모여든 군중들에게 하느님 말씀을 전하시며 빵도 먹고 남을 만큼 주십니다. 우리가 주님께 청한다면 모두 주실 것이며 영적 풍요로움도 주실 것입니다. 우리가 진심으로 청하면 주님의 은총과 축복을 풍요롭게 받을 것입니다.
제1독서는 열왕기 하권의 말씀입니다. 엘리사 예언자는 하느님의 영을 받아 스승 엘리야 예언자가 지녔던 기적의 힘을 발휘합니다. 어떤 사람이 하느님을 위하여 엘리사 예언자에게 맏물로 만든 보리떡 스무 개와 햇곡식 이삭을 가져옵니다. 하느님께서 먹고도 남을 것이라고 말씀하십니다. 그래서 엘리사 예언자는 보리떡 스무 개로 백 명이나 되는 사람들을 배불리 먹이는 기적을 행합니다. 엘리사 예언자는 하느님의 말씀을 믿고 제자들은 예언자의 말씀을 따릅니다. 빵의 기적은 하느님의 말씀을 따름으로서 이루어진 기적입니다. 영적인 풍요로움은 물질적 풍요로움을 가져옵니다. 엘리사가 백 명을 먹인 기적은 예수님께서 오천 명을 먹이신 기적의 예표입니다.
제2독서는 에페소서의 말씀입니다. 우리는 같은 빵을 먹고 같은 잔을 나누어 마시는 사람들입니다. 예수 그리스도를 믿는 이들은 그리스도의 몸 안에서 하나가 됩니다. 그리스도의 몸도 하나이며 성령도 하나입니다. 주님도 한분이시고 믿음도 하나이고 세례도 하나입니다. 전능하신 하느님도 한 분이십니다. 예수 그리스도께서는 우리들에게 각각 다른 은총의 선물을 주셨습니다. 예수님께서 우리에게 서로 다른 선물을 준 것은 봉사를 통하여 그리스도의 몸이 자라게 하려는 것입니다. 우리는 하느님의 사랑 안에서 진리를 따라 살면서 예수 그리스도와 한 몸이 되어야 합니다. 성령께서는 사랑과 평화의 줄로 우리를 묶어 예수 그리스도 안에서 모두가 하나 되게 하십니다.
오늘의 복음은 요한복음으로 빵 다섯 개와 물고기 두 마리로 오천 명을 먹이신 기적에 대한 이야기입니다. 예수님께서 갈릴래아 호수 건너편으로 가시는데 많은 사람들이 떼를 지어 예수님을 따라갑니다. 예수님께서는 그들에게 하느님 나라를 가르치시고 많은 병자들을 고쳐주십니다. 이어서 예수님께서는 보리빵 다섯 개와 작은 물고기 두 마리를 들고 감사의 기도를 올리신 다음, 거기에 앉아 있는 사람들에게 나누어주게 하십니다. 배불리 먹은 사람은 장정만도 오천 명이나 됩니다. 그리고 모두 배불리 먹고 난 뒤에 남은 부스러기를 모으니 열 두 광주리에 가득 찹니다. 진정 예수 그리스도께서는 이 세상에 오시기로 된 참 메시아이십니다.

해설) 하느님의 예언자 엘리사는 과부의 기름을 많게 하고, 수넴 여인의 죽은 아들을 되살리며, 솥 안의 독을 없애는 기적들을 행합니다. 또 엘리사 예언자는 보리떡 스무 개로 백 명이나 되는 사람들을 배불리 먹이는 기적을 행합니다. 엘리사의 빵의 기적은 예수님께서 행하신 오천 명을 먹이신 기적의 예표입니다.
그 무렵 42 어떤 사람이 바알 살리사에서 왔다. 그는 맏물로 만든 보리 빵 스무 개와 햇곡식 이삭을 자루에 담아, 하느님의 사람에게 가져왔다. 엘리사는 “이 군중이 먹도록 나누어 주어라.” 하고 일렀다. 43 그러나 그의 시종은 “이것을 어떻게 백 명이나 되는 사람들 앞에 내놓을 수 있겠습니까?” 하고 물었다. 엘리사가 다시 말하였다. “이 군중이 먹도록 나누어 주어라. 주님께서 이들이 먹고도 남을 것이라고 말씀하셨다.” 44 그리하여 그것을 사람들에게 내놓으니, 과연 주님의 말씀대로 그들이 먹고도 남았다.

해설) 예수님께서 보리빵 다섯 개와 물고기 두 마리로 오천 명을 배불리 먹이십니다. 모두 배불리 먹고 난 뒤에 남은 부스러기를 모으니 열 두 광주리에 가득 찹니다. 예수 그리스도야말로 세상에 오시기로 된 참 메시아이십니다. 오천 명을 먹이신 표징은 그분이 메시아임을 입증하는 하나의 표징입니다.
그때에 1 예수님께서 갈릴래아 호수 곧 티베리아스 호수 건너편으로 가셨는데, 2 많은 군중이 그분을 따라갔다. 그분께서 병자들에게 일으키신 표징들을 보았기 때문이다. 3 예수님께서는 산에 오르시어 제자들과 함께 그곳에 앉으셨다. 4 마침 유다인들의 축제인 파스카가 가까운 때였다. 5 예수님께서는 눈을 드시어 많은 군중이 당신께 오는 것을 보시고 필립보에게, “저 사람들이 먹을 빵을 우리가 어디에서 살 수 있겠느냐?” 하고 물으셨다. 6 이는 필립보를 시험해 보려고 하신 말씀이다. 그분께서는 당신이 하시려는 일을 이미 잘 알고 계셨다. 7 필립보가 예수님께 대답하였다. “저마다 조금씩이라도 받아 먹게 하자면 이백 데나리온어치 빵으로도 충분하지 않겠습니다.” 8 그때에 제자들 가운데 하나인 시몬 베드로의 동생 안드레아가 예수님께 말하였다. 9 “여기 보리 빵 다섯 개와 물고기 두 마리를 가진 아이가 있습니다만, 저렇게 많은 사람에게 이것이 무슨 소용이 있겠습니까?” 10 그러자 예수님께서 “사람들을 자리 잡게 하여라.” 하고 이르셨다. 그곳에는 풀이 많았다. 그리하여 사람들이 자리를 잡았는데, 장정만도 그 수가 오천 명쯤 되었다. 11 예수님께서는 빵을 손에 들고 감사를 드리신 다음, 자리를 잡은 이들에게 나누어 주셨다. 물고기도 그렇게 하시어 사람들이 원하는 대로 주셨다. 12 그들이 배불리 먹은 다음에 예수님께서는 제자들에게, “버려지는 것이 없도록 남은 조각을 모아라.” 하고 말씀하셨다. 13 그래서 그들이 모았더니, 사람들이 보리 빵 다섯 개를 먹고 남긴 조각으로 열두 광주리가 가득 찼다. 14 사람들은 예수님께서 일으키신 표징을 보고, “이분은 정말 세상에 오시기로 되어 있는 그 예언자시다.” 하고 말하였다. 15 예수님께서는 그들이 와서 당신을 억지로 모셔다가 임금으로 삼으려 한다는 것을 아시고, 혼자서 다시 산으로 물러가셨다.

So the men reclined, about five thousand in number. 11 Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed them to those who were reclining, and also as much of the fish as they wanted. 12 When they had had their fill, he said to his disciples, "Gather the fragments left over, so that nothing will be wasted." 13 So they collected them, and filled twelve wicker baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves that had been more than they could eat. 14 When the people saw the sign he had done, they said, "This is truly the Prophet, the one who is to come into the world." 15 Since Jesus knew that they were going to come and carry him off to make him king, he withdrew again to the mountain alone.
예수님께서는 기적과 표징들을 보이십니다. 그러자 많은 사람들이 예수님을 따릅니다. 예수님께서는 사람들의 영적 육적인 허기를 불쌍히 여기십니다. 예수님께서 빵 다섯 개로 모여든 사람 모두를 배부르게 하십니다. 빵은 먹고도 열두 광주리나 남습니다. 예수님을 믿고 따르는 사람들은 주님의 은총을 풍요롭게 받을 것입니다.

오천 명을 먹이시다
+ 요한 6,1-15
1. 나는 이미 넘칠 만큼 갖고도 항상 부족함을 느끼며 살고 있지는 않습니까? 제자들이 먹을 것을 찾고 있을 때, 정작 갖고 있는 것을 모두 내어 놓은 사람은 작은 소년이었습니다. 나는 나눔에 인색하여 내가 갖고 있는 것을 감추고 있지는 않았습니까? 나눔을 너무 거창한 것으로 생각하고 있기 때문에 어려운 것은 아닙니까? 쪼개면 쪼갤수록 더 풍성해지는 예수님의 '빵의 기적'을 나는 일상 속에서 체험할 수 있습니까?
2. 예수님께서는 빵의 기적을 행하시기 전에 어떻게 기도하셨습니까? 빵 다섯 개와 물고기 두 마리가 예수님께서 하신 기도 안에서 어떤 놀라운 변화를 일으켰습니까? 내 마음 안의 빵 다섯 개와 물고기 두 마리는 무엇입니까? 내가 삶 안에서 작고 보잘 것 없다고 생각하는 것들이 주님 안에서 어떻게 놀라운 변화를 일으킵니까?

Jesus feeds 5000 by multiplying five loaves & two fish
Our first reading and our gospel are strongly linked today because they both contain a similar miracle – the feeding of many people with small quantities of bread and fish. In the first reading, from the second Book of the Kings, we see a man who had brought bread to the prophet Elisha and question the prophet as to how so many could eat from so little. The prophet, trusting in God, assured him that it would happen and that there would be some left over at the end. The hundred men did eat from the twenty barley loaves and there was bread left over, though all were satisfied.
Our gospel for the coming few weeks comes from the sixth chapter of St John’s Gospel and is often referred to as ‘The Bread of Life Discourse’. Alone among the gospels, St John’s does not contain the Institution Narrative from the Last Supper and so this sixth chapter is seen as a development of the theology of the Eucharist for John and his community. In today’s passage, we see Jesus being followed by a multitude of people eager to hear more from him and to see more signs or miracles. In his concern for the people, the Lord wishes to feed them but all that is available are five barley loaves and two fish, and St Andrew questions how this could satisfy so many people. Again, the people eat all that they want and are satisfied and still have some left over. We know that Jesus feeds us with even greater bread than the people received from Elisha or the bread the Lord gave them on the hillside, because we receive Christ’s own body and blood which bring us eternal life rather than the fleeting satisfaction the people received from the barley loaves. The people, delighted with what they have received and at the magnitude of the miracle, were about to make Jesus their king but he escaped to the hills to avoid such a political misunderstanding of his power.
In our second reading, the Christian community at Ephesus are exhorted to maintain unity in peace and in the Holy Spirit. They are reminded that there is only one God and so there is only one hope and one promise which is given to all those who believe, regardless of their background. The key to this is baptism which is the same for everyone and which is the entry into a life of faith. Therefore, as members of the Body of Christ, they must live in charity and peace with one another but, above all, they are to believe in Jesus Christ if they are to receive the eternal life which he promised.

"Lord, you satisfy the deepest longings of our hearts and you feed us with the finest of wheat (Ps 81:16). Fill me with gratitude and give me a generous heart that I may freely share with others what you have given to me." - Amen.
성녀 마르타 (Saint Martha)

성녀 마르타는 성녀 마리아(Maria)와 성 라자루스(Lazarus)의 누이이고 예루살렘 근교 베타니아에서 살았으며 집안일을 맡았던 것 같다. 그들은 예수님의 친구였으며, 주님은 그들의 집에 자주 머무신 듯하다. 성녀 마르타는 활동적인 여성이었던 것 같다. 루카 복음 10장 38-42절의 사건은 그녀의 성격을 잘 묘사하는 내용이다. “마르타야, 마르타야! 너는 많은 일을 염려하고 걱정하는구나. 그러나 필요한 것은 한 가지뿐이다. 마리아는 좋은 몫을 선택하였다.” 이런 기사 때문에 그녀는 활동적인 그리스도인의 상징이고, 성녀 마리아는 관상생활의 모델처럼 공경을 받는다. 성 라자루스가 죽었을 때 예수님께 연락했던 이는 성녀 마르타이고, 성녀 마리아는 집에 그대로 남아 있었다(요한 11,20). 어떤 전승에 의하면 성녀 마리아와 성 라자루스는 예수님의 사후에 프랑스로 가서 복음을 전했다고 한다. 성녀 마르타는 요리사의 수호성녀이다.
