< 지금이 주님을 찾을 때다.>
해설) 호세아 예언자는 이스라엘 백성의 부정과 불의와 사기와 폭력들을 봅니다. 호세아는 백성들 가운데 결핍된 것이 단지 정의만이 아니라 그 이상의 것임을 알고 있습니다. 이제 이스라엘은 주님께 대한 충실성이 없습니다. 이스라엘 백성은 주님과 계약을 맺을 때 했던 말들을 지키지 않은 것입니다.
1 이스라엘은 가지가 무성한 포도나무, 열매를 잘 맺는다. 그러나 열매가 많을수록 제단들도 많이 만들고, 땅이 좋아질수록 기념 기둥들도 좋게 만들었다. 2 그들의 마음이 거짓으로 가득하니, 이제 죗값을 치러야 한다. 그분께서 그 제단들을 부수시고, 그 기념 기둥들을 허물어 버리시리라. 3 이제 그들은 말하리라. “우리가 주님을 경외하지 않아서 임금이 없지만, 임금이 있다 한들 우리에게 무엇을 해 주리오?” 7 사마리아는 망하리라. 그 임금은 물 위에 뜬 나뭇가지 같으리라. 8 이스라엘의 죄악인 아웬의 산당들은 무너지고, 가시덤불과 엉겅퀴가 그 제단들 위까지 올라가리라. 그때에 그들은 산들에게 “우리를 덮쳐 다오!”, 언덕들에게 “우리 위로 무너져 다오!” 하고 말하리라. 12 너희는 정의를 뿌리고, 신의를 거두어들여라. 묵혀 둔 너희 땅을 갈아엎어라. 지금이 주님을 찾을 때다, 그가 와서 너희 위에 정의를 비처럼 내릴 때까지.

1 Israel was a luxuriant vine yielding plenty of fruit. The more his fruit increased, the more altars he built; the richer his land became, the richer he made the sacred pillars. 2 Theirs is a divided heart; now they will have to pay for it. He himself will hack down their altars and wreck their sacred pillars. 3 Then they will say, 'We have no king because we have not feared Yahweh, but what could the king do for us?' 7 Samaria has had her day. Her king is like a straw drifting on the water. 8 The high places of Aven, the sin of Israel, will be destroyed; thorns and thistles will grow over their altars. Then they will say to the mountains, 'Cover us!' and to the hills, 'Fall on us!' 12 Sow saving justice for yourselves, reap a harvest of faithful love; break up your fallow ground: it is time to seek out Yahweh until he comes to rain saving justice down on you.
묵상) 백성들은 기도나 몇 가지 제물로 주님의 마음을 달랠 수 있으리라고 믿은 것입니다. 그러나 주님께서 진정 원하시는 것은 제물이 아니라 정의와 사랑입니다. 예배를 아무리 많이 드려도 사랑과 정의의 결핍을 메울 수는 없습니다. 사랑과 정의야말로 주님을 섬기고 있음을 보여주는 믿음의 행위입니다.

해설) 마태오 복음 5-7장의 산상 설교에서는 참된 의로움에 대해 밝히고 있고, 10장의 파견 설교에서는 참된 제자상을 밝히고 있으며, 13장의 비유 설교에서는 7가지 비유로 하느님 나라를 밝히고 있고, 18장의 공동체 설교에서는 참된 형제애에 대해, 그리고 24-25장의 심판 설교에서는 하느님 심판에 대해 밝혀 주고 있습니다.
그때에 1 예수님께서 열두 제자를 가까이 부르시고 그들에게 더러운 영들에 대한 권한을 주시어, 그것들을 쫓아내고, 병자와 허약한 이들을 모두 고쳐 주게 하셨다. 2 열두 사도의 이름은 이러하다. 베드로라고 하는 시몬을 비롯하여, 그의 동생 안드레아, 제베대오의 아들 야고보와 그의 동생 요한, 3 필립보와 바르톨로메오, 토마스와 세리 마태오, 알패오의 아들 야고보와 타대오, 4 열혈당원 시몬, 그리고 예수님을 팔아넘긴 유다 이스카리옷이다. 5 예수님께서 이 열두 사람을 보내시며 이렇게 분부하셨다. “다른 민족들에게 가는 길로 가지 말고, 사마리아인들의 고을에도 들어가지 마라. 6 이스라엘 집안의 길 잃은 양들에게 가라. 7 가서 ‘하늘 나라가 가까이 왔다.’ 하고 선포하여라.”

1 Jesus summoned his Twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits to drive them out and to cure every disease and every illness. 2 The names of the Twelve Apostles are these: first, Simon called Peter, and his brother Andrew; James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John; 3 Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James, the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddeus; 4 Simon the Cananean, and Judas Iscariot who betrayed Jesus. 5 Jesus sent out these Twelve after instructing them thus, "Do not go into pagan territory or enter a Samaritan town. 6 Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 As you go, make this proclamation: 'The Kingdom of heaven is at hand.'"
묵상) 예수님께서는 말씀으로 하느님 나라의 기쁜 소식을 전하시고 행적으로 하느님 나라가 현재 여기에 이미 와 있음을 알리십니다. 예수님께서는 비유로써 하느님의 나라를 암시하시고, 기적으로 하느님 나라의 구원 능력을 보여 주십니다. 하느님 나라는 예수 그리스도를 통해서 시작되며 당신 제자들에 의해 계속 선포될 것입니다.
예수님께서는 사도들에게 당신의 능력을 주십니다. 예수님의 능력으로 하느님과 하느님 나라의 기쁜 소식을 선포하게 하십니다. 우리도 추수 밭의 일꾼으로 예수님께로부터 많은 능력을 받으며 때로는 성령의 특별한 능력을 받은 사람도 있습니다. 예수님으로부터 받은 능력은 반드시 주님의 기쁜 소식을 알리는데 써야 합니다.

Be Still, And Know That I Am God
열두 사도를 뽑으시고 파견하시다.
+ 마태오 10, 1-7
1. 예수님께서는 당신을 따르던 사람들 중에서 12명을 뽑아 제자로 삼고 그들을 사도라고 부르십니다. 열 두 제자는 예수님에 의해 치유의 능력과 불림을 받고 복음을 설교하고 회개를 선포하도록 보내어졌습니다. 그들은 그것을 어떻게 받아들였습니까? 그렇다면 나는 어떻습니까? 나는 나의 삶 안에서 언제 주님의 불림을 받고 또 보내어짐을 체험할 수 있습니까?
2. 우리는 하느님의 섭리 안에 각자 다른 소명과 다른 쓰임새로 불림을 받습니다. 나의 능력으로 하는 것이 아니고 하느님의 권능으로 모든 것이 가능해지기 때문입니다. 나는 하느님께 어떤 능력을 받았고 그것을 어떻게 사용하고 있습니까? 나는 이 능력을 내 자신만을 위해 사용하고 있지는 않습니까?

Jesus calls twelve to be his apostles
Benedict was born in central Italy in 480. He was sent to Rome to study but left the city for the life of a hermit in Subiaco, not far from Rome, about the year 500. So many gathered around him that he founded twelve communities of monks, but in time left them because of their lack of discipline. He moved to Monte Cassino, on the western coast of Italy, and established the famous monastery there on the site of a pagan temple to Apollo. He wrote a Rule for the monks which has become the foundation of spirituality and monastic life though it is not believed that he intended starting a religious order. He is the spiritual head of monks in the Western Church as St Basil is spiritual head of those in the Eastern Church. He died while at prayer in March 547 and was made Patron of Europe by Paul VI in 1964.
In our Gospel reading we have the naming of the twelve apostles and these Jesus sends out to proclaim the Good News. What is the kingdom of God? It is that society of men and women who submit to God and who honor him as their King and Lord. In the Lord's prayer we pray for God to reign in our lives and in our world: May your kingdom come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Jesus' preaching of God's kingdom was accompanied by signs and wonders. People were healed not only spiritually, but physically as well. Jesus' words are just as relevant today, the kingdom of heaven is at hand. We cannot buy heaven; but those who know the love and mercy of Jesus already possess heaven in their hearts! Do you believe in the power of God's kingdom? Jesus commissioned his disciples to carry on the works which he did -- to speak God's word and to bring his healing power to the weary and oppressed. In the choice of the twelve apostles we see a characteristic feature of God's work: Jesus chose very ordinary people. They were non- professionals, had no wealth or position. They were chosen from the common people who did ordinary things, had no special education, and no social advantages. Jesus wanted ordinary people who could take an assignment and do it extraordinarily well. He chose these men, not for what they were, but for what they would be capable of becoming under his direction and power. When the Lord calls us to serve, we must not think we have nothing to offer. The Lord takes what ordinary people, like us, can offer and uses it for greatness in his kingdom. Do you believe that God wants to work through and in you for his glory? We are the successors to the Twelve and it is our duty to proclaim the Good News in all that we do and say.
Prayer "Lord, you have chosen me to be your disciple. Take and use what I can offer, however meager it may seem, for the greater glory of your name." - Amen

서방 수도생활의 아버지인 성 베네딕투스(Benedictus, 또는 베네딕토)는 480년경 이탈리아 중부 움브리아(Umbria) 지방의 누르시아에서 태어나 부유한 가정에서 성장했다. 그는 로마(Roma)에서 수학하였으나 도시생활의 혼란과 방종이 그로 하여금 광야로 가게 만들었다. 그리하여 500년경에 그는 그곳에서 30마일 떨어진 엔피데로 갔다가 은수자의 생활을 하기로 결심하고 수비아코(Subiaco)에 정착하였다. 여기서 그는 3년 동안을 동굴에서 살았는데, 로마누스(Romanus)라는 은수자에 의하여 음식을 공급받았다. 독수자가 되는 것이 그의 소망이었음에도 불구하고 그의 성덕과 엄격함이 널리 알려져서, 그는 비코바로(Vicovaro)에 있는 한 수도자의 공동체로부터 그들의 원장이 되어달라는 요청을 받고 이를 수락하였으나, 그들이 그의 엄격한 규칙에 반대하여 마침내 그를 독살하려고 시도하자 수비아코로 되돌아왔다. 그 후 곧 수많은 제자들이 몰려들었다. 그는 자신이 임명한 원장의 지도하에 있는 12개의 수도원을 조직하고 일과표의 일부로서 노동을 실시하였다. 수비아코는 영성과 학문의 중심이 되었다. http://blog.daum.net/joe3086/914
그는 인근의 본당사제이던 플로렌티우스가 자신의 활동을 시기해 죽이려 하자, 다른 수도자들의 안전을 위해 그곳을 떠나 529년경에 몬테카시노(Monte Cassino)에 자리를 잡았다. 그는 아폴로에게 헌정된 이방인 신전을 파괴하고 인근의 주민들을 그리스도교로 개종시켰으며, 530년경에는 서방 수도원의 발생지가 되는 몬테카시노 수도원을 건립하였다. 그의 성덕과 지혜 그리고 기적에 대한 명성이 수없이 퍼져나가 또다시 많은 제자들이 몰려왔다. 그는 수도자들을 단일 수도원 공동체로 조직하고, 상식을 존중하면서도 올바른 금욕생활, 기도, 공부 그리고 일 및 한 명의 원장 아래 있는 공동체 생활을 규정하는 저 유명한 규칙을 썼다. 이 규칙은 순종과 정주 그리고 신심을 강조하였으며, 수도생활의 기초가 되었다. 그는 자신의 수도자들을 지도하면서도 통치자와 교황의 고문을 담당하였고, 가난한 이들을 돕고, 도틸라의 침공으로 황폐해진 롬바르디아(Lombardia)를 재건하는데 정열을 쏟았다.
그는 547년경 3월 21일 몬테카시노에서 선종했다고 전해지고 있다. 8세기 말부터 여러 지방에서 7월 11일에 그의 축일을 기념해 왔다. 성 베네딕투스는 1964년 10월 24일 교황 바오로 6세(Paulus VI)에 의하여 유럽 전체의 수호성인으로 선언되었다. 그의 문장은 깨어진 컵, 까마귀, 종, 아바스 문장 그리고 숲이다.
