The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity
사랑 안에서 하나 (All one in Love)
오늘은 삼위일체 대축일입니다. 예수님께서는 당신 말씀과 행적으로 아버지 하느님을 알게 하시고 당신의 성령을 보내십니다. 사랑을 베푸시는 하느님 아버지와 은총을 내리시는 우리 주 예수 그리스도와 일치를 이루시는 성령께서는 사랑으로 하나입니다. 성부 성자 성령의 삼위가 하나이듯이 우리도 교회 안에서 하나가 되어야 합니다.
제1독서의 신명기의 말씀입니다. 주님만이 참 하느님이십니다. 주 하느님 그 분이 위로 하늘에 계시고 아래로 땅 위에 계시는 하느님이십니다. 그 분 밖에 다른 하느님은 없습니다. 하느님의 참된 백성은 하느님의 규정과 법규들을 잘 지켜야 합니다. 하느님 백성이 하느님의 규정과 법규들을 성심껏 지키면 하느님 약속의 땅에서 잘 살 것입니다. 하느님 백성이 하느님의 규정과 법규들을 성실히 지키는 것을 다른 민족들이 보면, 지혜롭고 슬기로운 백성은 주 하느님 백성밖에 없다고 할 것입니다. 주 하느님께서는 당신 백성이 부를 때 마다 함께 계셔 주시는 하느님이십니다. 그처럼 가까이 계셔 주시는 신을 모신 백성은 하느님 백성밖에 없습니다.
제2독서는 로마서의 말씀입니다. 육을 따라 사는 사람은 육적인 것에 마음을 쓰고, 성령을 따라 사는 사람은 영적인 것에 마음을 씁니다. 영적인 것에 마음을 쓰면 참 생명과 평화가 옵니다. 성령께서 우리 안에 게시면 우리는 성령을 따라 사는 사람입니다. 누구든지 주님의 성령의 인도를 따라 사는 사람은 하느님의 자녀입니다. 우리가 받은 성령은 우리를 하느님의 자녀로 만들어 주시는 성령이십니다. 우리는 이 성령에 힘입어 하느님을 '아빠 아버지'라고 부릅니다. 성령께서는 우리가 하느님의 자녀라는 것을 증명해 주십니다. 하느님의 자녀가 되면 우리는 하느님 나라의 상속자입니다. 우리는 하느님의 상속자로서 그리스도와 함께 하느님 나라를 상속을 받은 사람입니다.
마태오 복음에서 부활하신 예수님께서는 제자들에게 복음 선포의 사명을 주십니다. 구약 시대에 주님께서 이스라엘 백성과 함께 계셨듯이 신약 시대에 부활하신 그리스도께서 하느님의 새로운 백성인 그리스도 공동체와 함께 계실 것입니다. 예수님께서는 이제 새로운 하느님 백성 공동체인 그리스도 공동체를 통하여 세상 모든 사람들에게 복음을 전할 것을 명하십니다. 그리스도 공동체는 모든 민족들을 제자로 삼아 아버지와 아들과 성령의 이름으로 세례를 베풀고 예수 그리스도의 기쁜 소식을 전해야 합니다. 그리스도 공동체는 아버지와 아들과 성령의 능력으로 복음을 전해야 합니다. 예수 그리스도께서는 공동체 안에 늘 살아계시는 임마누엘 하느님이십니다.

해설) 주님은 인간 역사 안에서 활동하시는 하느님입니다. 주님은 당신 백성과의 계약에 충실하시며 당신 백성을 해방하여 자유롭게 하시고 그 안에서 당신 능력을 드러내 보이십니다. 그분만이 위로 하늘에 계시고 아래로 땅 위에 계시는 살아계신 하느님이십니다. 주님밖에 다른 하느님은 없습니다.
모세가 백성에게 말하였다. 32 “이제, 하느님께서 땅 위에 사람을 창조하신 날부터 너희가 태어나기 전의 날들에게 물어보아라. 하늘 이 끝에서 저 끝까지 물어보아라. 과연 이처럼 큰일이 일어난 적이 있느냐? 이와 같은 일을 들어 본 적이 있느냐? 33 불 속에서 말씀하시는 하느님의 소리를 듣고도 너희처럼 살아남은 백성이 있느냐? 34 아니면 주 너희 하느님께서 이집트에서 너희가 보는 가운데 너희를 위하여 하신 것처럼, 온갖 시험과 표징과 기적, 전쟁과 강한 손과 뻗은 팔과 큰 공포로, 한 민족을 다른 민족 가운데에서 데려오려고 애쓴 신이 있느냐? 39 그러므로 너희는 오늘, 주님께서 위로는 하늘에서, 아래로는 땅에서 하느님이시며, 다른 하느님이 없음을 분명히 알고 너희 마음에 새겨 두어라. 40 너희는 오늘 내가 너희에게 명령하는 그분의 규정과 계명들을 지켜라. 그래야 너희와 너희 자손들이 잘되고, 주 너희 하느님께서 너희에게 영원토록 주시는 땅에서 오래 살 것이다.”

형제 여러분, 14 하느님의 영의 인도를 받는 이들은 모두 하느님의 자녀입니다. 15 여러분은 사람을 다시 두려움에 빠뜨리는 종살이의 영을 받은 것이 아니라, 여러분을 자녀로 삼도록 해 주시는 영을 받았습니다. 이 성령의 힘으로 우리가 “아빠! 아버지!” 하고 외치는 것입니다. 16 그리고 이 성령께서 몸소, 우리가 하느님의 자녀임을 우리의 영에게 증언해 주십니다. 17 자녀이면 상속자이기도 합니다. 우리는 하느님의 상속자입니다. 그리스도와 더불어 공동 상속자인 것입니다. 다만 그리스도와 함께 영광을 누리려면 그분과 함께 고난을 받아야 합니다.

해설) 구약 시대에 주님께서 이스라엘 백성과 함께 계셨듯이 신약 시대에는 부활하신 예수님께서 새로운 하느님 백성인 그리스도 공동체와 함께 계십니다. 예수님께서는 그리스도 공동체를 통하여 세상 만민들에게 새로운 선교를 하십니다. 그리스도 공동체는 모든 민족들에게 주님의 기쁜 소식을 전해야 합니다.

온 세상을 만드시고 다스리시는 분은 하느님이십니다. 말씀이 사람이 되시어 우리에게 하느님의 진리와 사랑을 일깨워주시는 분은 성자 예수 그리스도이십니다. 거룩하신 영으로 하느님의 신비를 알아차리게 하시는 분은 성령이십니다. 성부와 성자와 성령은 사랑으로 하나입니다. 성삼의 은총으로 우리 모두 사랑으로 하나가 될 것입니다.

제자들에게 나타나시어 사명을 부여하시다.

1. 부활하신 예수님을 다시 만나 기쁜 제자들도 있었지만 두 눈으로 보고도 의심하는 사람도 있었습니다. 나는 주님의 부활을 직접 목격하진 못하였지만 예수님만이 나의 구원자임을 믿습니까? 나는 제자로서 예수님을 얼마나 믿으며 따르는 삶을 살고 있습니까?
2. "세상 끝날 까지 언제나 너와 함께 있겠다."는 예수님의 말씀이 주는 의미는 무엇입니까? 나는 내 삶의 여정에서 만나는 사람들에게 어떻게 구원의 기쁜 소식을 알리고 있습니까? 또한 그들을 예수님의 제자로 만들고 세례를 베풀라는 예수님의 말씀을 어떻게 실천하고 있습니까?

The great commission
Today we keep the solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity when we acknowledge in a very special way that, while there is only one God, there are three persons in that one God: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. This is a cornerstone of the faith but at the same time a teaching which is difficult to grasp or comprehend. While many people have no problem believing in a God, there is some difficulty in accepting that God can be three persons while remaining One God. Many have tried to explain it such as St Patrick who used the shamrock, but understanding is not necessary for faith and some things will always be mysteries. It is a reminder that there are things in our faith which are mysteries, things which we don’t have the capacity to understand, to reason or to solve by science, and yet we believe them to be true because proof is not necessary for true faith. Jesus did not explicitly use the word ‘trinity’ and yet his teaching that he and the Father are One, his instruction to baptise in the name (singular) of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, point to a Trinity in One God.
In the first reading from the Book of Deuteronomy, Moses is speaking to the people and comments on how wonderful the voice of the Lord their God is and how close to them he is. The Lord has elected them to be his people and demonstrated his love for them in bringing about their freedom from slavery in Egypt. If the Jewish nation are to prosper, therefore, they must take to heart the way the Lord wants them to live, they must follow the Commandments so that they may become a nation separated from all others by their moral way of living.
In the second reading from the letter to the Romans, St Paul continues the idea of the Lord’s elect. Those who believe in Jesus Christ become heirs to the Kingdom with the same inheritance privileges as sons: whatever their gender, race, language or colour, all people can receive eternal life if they believe in God, through Jesus Christ with the presence of the Holy Spirit.
The gospel passage is post-resurrectional and sees Jesus at his last meeting with the apostles and in which he gives them the great mandate to spread the Gospel to all peoples. They are to do so through baptism in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit – the Trinity – and through their teaching. This mandate is given because all authority was given to Jesus by the Father and the mandate given to him was to bring the love of God to his people and to bring the people back to their One true God. The hesitation of some of the apostles to worship the Risen Lord is a reminder that even those who knew the Lord had some doubts and this is a strength to those who struggle with faith. Baptism is in the name of Father, Son and Holy Spirit – just one name, not a number of names – and in this way the Lord indicates that the Three are One.

"Lord Jesus, through the gift of your Holy Spirit, you fill us with an indomitable spirit of praise and joy which no earthly trial can subdue. Fill me with your resurrection joy and help me to live a life of praise and thanksgiving for your glory. May I witness to those around me the joy of the gospel and the reality of your resurrection.” - Amen.
성녀 모나셀라 (Saint Monacella)

멜란젤라(Melangella)로도 불리는 성녀 모나셀라의 부친은 아일랜드의 왕이었다. 그녀는 부모의 결혼 강요를 뿌리치고 웨일스 중동부의 포이스(Powys) 지방으로 도주하여 15년 동안이나 하느님만 의지하며 숨은 생활을 하였다. 어느 날 포이스의 왕자가 사냥을 나왔다가 기도하고 있는 성녀 모나셀라가 있는 곳으로 토끼를 추격해갔다. 그 토끼는 그녀의 옷 속으로 들어가 숨었다. 그래서 그녀의 이야기를 듣고 크게 감명을 받은 왕자는 성녀를 위해 '영원한 피난처와 거룩한 장소'를 제공하였다. 그 후 그녀는 그곳에서 37년을 지내면서 큰 공동체로 발전했을 때 그곳의 원장이 되었다.
