성 마르코 복음 사가
히에라폴리스의 주교 파피아스에 의하면 마르코는 베드로의 통역관이었는데 베드로가 예수님의 말씀과 행적에 관해서 가르친 것을 기억나는 대로 충실히 기록했다고 합니다. 그는 어머니 마리아와 함께 예루살렘에서 살았으며 그 집에 그리스도인들이 모이곤 하였습니다. 바오로와 바르나바를 따라 45-49년경의 1차 선교여행을 함께 했으며, 53-58년경의 3차 선교여행 중 바오로가 에페소 감옥에 갇혀 있을 때 마르코는 바오로 곁에 있어서 위로가 되어 주었습니다. 마르코는 베드로에게 아들로 여겨질 정도로 베드로의 친근한 동료였습니다. 그리스도교 회화에서 마르코는 날개달린 사자의 모습으로 그려져 있습니다. 마르코는 알렉산드리아의 주교를 역임하였고 거기서 순교하였습니다.

해설) 그리스도 공동체는 참 사랑으로 일치되어야 합니다. 베드로 사도의 사목적 관심은 일치와 화합입니다. 일치는 공동체 상호간의 사랑에 의한 것입니다. 공동체 상호간의 사랑에 의해 드러나는 일치는 공동체의 본질입니다. 그리스도 공동체의 친교는 인간적인 업적이 아니라 하느님 사랑의 반영입니다.
사랑하는 여러분, 5 여러분은 모두 겸손의 옷을 입고 서로 대하십시오. “하느님께서는 교만한 자들을 대적하시고, 겸손한 이들에게는 은총을 베푸십니다.” 6 그러므로 하느님의 강한 손 아래에서 자신을 낮추십시오. 때가 되면 그분께서 여러분을 높이실 것입니다. 7 여러분의 모든 걱정을 그분께 내맡기십시오. 그분께서 여러분을 돌보고 계십니다. 8 정신을 차리고 깨어 있도록 하십시오. 여러분의 적대자 악마가 으르렁거리는 사자처럼 누구를 삼킬까 하고 찾아 돌아다닙니다. 9 여러분은 믿음을 굳건히 하여 악마에게 대항하십시오. 여러분도 알다시피, 온 세상에 퍼져 있는 여러분의 형제들도 같은 고난을 당하고 있습니다. 10 여러분이 잠시 고난을 겪고 나면, 모든 은총의 하느님께서, 곧 그리스도 예수님 안에서 당신의 영원한 영광에 참여하도록 여러분을 불러 주신 그분께서 몸소 여러분을 온전하게 하시고 굳세게 하시며 든든하게 하시고 굳건히 세워 주실 것입니다. 11 그분의 권능은 영원합니다. 아멘. 12 나는 성실한 형제로 여기는 실바누스의 손을 빌려 여러분에게 간략히 이 글을 썼습니다. 이것은 여러분을 격려하고, 또 하느님의 참된 은총임을 증언하려는 것입니다. 그 은총 안에 굳건히 서 있도록 하십시오. 13 여러분과 함께 선택된 바빌론 교회와 나의 아들 마르코가 여러분에게 인사합니다. 14 여러분도 사랑의 입맞춤으로 서로 인사하십시오. 그리스도 안에 있는 여러분 모두에게 평화가 있기를 빕니다.

Your opponent the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in faith, knowing that your fellow believers throughout the world undergo the same sufferings. 10 The God of all grace who called you to his eternal glory through Christ Jesus will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you after you have suffered a little. 11 To him be dominion forever. Amen. 12 I write you this briefly through Silvanus, whom I consider a faithful brother, exhorting you and testifying that this is the true grace of God. 묵상) 하느님께서는 교만한 자들을 물리치시고 겸손한 자에게 은총을 베푸십니다. 참 그리스도인은 스스로 자기를 낮추어 가난과 겸손과 순명의 삶을 살아야 합니다. 그리스도를 따르는 사람은 하느님의 권능에 복종하고 온갖 근심 걱정을 하느님께 맡기고 오직 하느님의 영광만을 위하는 삶을 살아야 합니다.

< 모든 피조물에게 복음을 선포하여라. >
해설) 하느님께서 인간이 되어 오십니다. 인간이 되신 하느님께서 참된 삶을 보여 주시고, 우리를 위해 고난 받으시고 우리 죄를 위해 죽으시고 묻히시며, 우리에게 영생을 주시기 위해 부활하십니다. 이와 같은 엄청난 하느님 나라의 기쁜 소식을 주님의 참 제자는 온 세상을 두루 다니며 모든 사람에게 전해야 합니다.
그때에 예수님께서 열한 제자에게 나타나시어 15 그들에게 이르셨다. “너희는 온 세상에 가서 모든 피조물에게 복음을 선포하여라. 16 믿고 세례를 받는 이는 구원을 받고 믿지 않는 자는 단죄를 받을 것이다. 17 믿는 이들에게는 이러한 표징들이 따를 것이다. 곧 내 이름으로 마귀들을 쫓아내고 새로운 언어들을 말하며, 18 손으로 뱀을 집어 들고 독을 마셔도 아무런 해도 입지 않으며, 또 병자들에게 손을 얹으면 병이 나을 것이다.” 19 주 예수님께서는 제자들에게 말씀하신 다음 승천하시어 하느님 오른쪽에 앉으셨다. 20 제자들은 떠나가서 곳곳에 복음을 선포하였다. 주님께서는 그들과 함께 일하시면서 표징들이 뒤따르게 하시어, 그들이 전하는 말씀을 확증해 주셨다.

15 Jesus appeared to the Eleven and said to them: “Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will drive out demons, they will speak new languages. 18 They will pick up serpents with their hands, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not harm them. They will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”19 So then the Lord Jesus, after he spoke to them, was taken up into heaven and took his seat at the right hand of God. 20 But they went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word through accompanying signs.
묵상) 주님의 제자는 하느님 나라의 기쁜 소식을 온 세상에 전해야 합니다. 주님의 참 제자는 그리스도의 복음을 모든 사람에게 전해야 합니다. 그리스도교 공동체는 복음을 전할 의무가 있습니다. 교회는 자신의 힘에 의해서가 아니라 부활하신 그리스도의 능력으로 복음을 전해야 합니다. 이제 교회는 성령의 도움 안에서 복음을 선포를 할 것입니다.
예수님께서 제자들에게 세상 끝까지 복음을 선포하라고 말씀하십니다. 부활하신 예수님을 만난 제자들은 큰 믿음을 갖게 됩니다. 믿음으로 예수님을 전할 때 예수님께서 그들과 함께 하십니다. 제자들은 예수님의 능력으로 많은 기적을 일으킵니다. 사람들은 그 기적을 보고 예수님을 믿습니다. 우리도 믿음으로 주 예수님을 전해야 합니다.

1. 승천하시기 전 제자들에게 사명을 부여하시고 파견하시는 자리에 나를 넣고 묵상해 보십시오. 예수님은 지금 나에게 어떤 말씀을 하고 계십니까? 하늘로 승천하시는 모습을 보면서 나의 마음에는 어떤 감정이 듭니까? 그리고 제자들을 두고 떠나시는 예수님의 마음은 어떠실 것 같습니까?
2. 주님께서 나에게 맡기신 사명은 무엇이라 생각합니까? 그리스도인으로 살면서 나는 이 사명을 지키기 위해 어떤 노력을 합니까? 나는 일상 속에서 믿는 이들에게 따르는 표징을 체험한 적이 있습니까? 그 표징의 의미는 무엇입니까?

Jesus' great commision
There is not a huge amount known about St Mark. It was thought that he was the young man referred to in Mark 14:51-52 who fled at the arrest of Jesus, though there is no proof. He was a companion of St Paul on his first missionary journey as noted by Paul in his writings. Later he joined St Peter, on whose teachings his Gospel is based and which was written for Christians who were being persecuted in Rome to show them that Christ too suffered but never gave up. According to tradition, he founded the Church in Alexandria and was probably its bishop when he was martyred about the year 74. The symbol for St Mark is the winged lion.
In our first reading for this feast, St Peter gives instruction to the people on how they should live with one another. The text is a reminder to the reader that the devil is always on the lookout for some way to cause us to fall and to deny the place of God in our lives. For Peter, the ‘true grace’ he speaks of is the persecution we receive because of our belief in God but if we stand firm in that belief then God will be with us. In the letter he makes mention of St Mark, who at this stage is one of his companions and so Peter is the source of the material that Mark used in writing the gospel.
The gospel account from Mark tells of Jesus’ commandment to his followers after the resurrection that they are to go out and ‘proclaim the Good News to all creation’. Mark himself did this through his travels with St Paul and later with Peter and particularly through the written word of his gospel, which is the oldest of the four gospels.
The first to see the risen Lord was not Peter or one of the apostles, but Mary Magdelen and the women who stood by Jesus at the cross and who went to the tomb on Sunday to pay their last respects. Unfortunately for the disciples, they would not believe their account of the Risen Master. Jesus had to scold his apostles because of their unbelief and stubborn hearts. Are you like the apostles or like Mary Magdelen and the other women -- slow to believe or quick to run to Jesus? Do you doubt because you do not see? The Lord makes his presence known to us through the work of the Holy Spirit. He gives us the gift of faith to know him personally and to understand the mystery of his death and rising. Do you believe his word and do you listen to his voice?
Jesus' departure and ascension into heaven was both an end and a beginning for his disciples. While it was the end of Jesus' physical presence with his beloved disciples, it marked the beginning of Jesus' presence with them in a new way. Jesus promised that he would be with them always to the end of time. Now as the glorified and risen Lord and Savior, ascended to the right hand of the Father in heaven, Jesus promised to send them the Holy Spirit who would anoint them with power on the Feast of Pentecost, just as Jesus was anointed for his ministry at the River Jordan. When the Lord Jesus departed physically from the apostles, they were not left in sorrow or grief. Instead, they were filled with joy and with great anticipation for the coming of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus' last words to his apostles point to his saving mission and to their mission to be witnesses of his saving death and his glorious resurrection and to proclaim the good news of salvation to all the world. Their task is to proclaim the good news of salvation, not only to the people of Israel, but to all the nations. God's love and gift of salvation is not just for a few, or for a nation, but it is for the whole world -- for all who will accept it. The gospel is the power of God, the power to forgive sins, to heal, to deliver from evil and oppression, and to restore life. Do you believe in the power of the gospel?
This is the great commission which the risen Christ gives to the whole church. All believers have been given a share in this task -- to be heralds of the good news and ambassadors for Jesus Christ, the only savior of the world. We have not been left alone in this task, for the risen Lord works in and through us by the power of his Holy Spirit. Today we witness a new Pentecost as the Lord pours out his Holy Spirit upon his people to renew and strengthen the body of Christ and to equip it for effective ministry and mission world-wide. Do you witness to others the joy of the gospel and the hope of the resurrection
Prayer : "Lord Jesus, through the gift of your Holy Spirit, you fill us with an indomitable spirit of praise and joy which no earthly trial can subdue. Fill me with your resurrection joy and help me to live a life of praise and thanksgiving for your glory. May I witness to those around me the joy of the gospel and the reality of your resurrection.” - Amen

마르코 복음서의 저자인 성 마르코(Marcus)는 “마르코라고도 불리는 요한”(사도 12,12-25)과 동일 인물이며, 사도들이 예루살렘에서 회합 장소로 사용한 집주인 마리아가 그의 어머니인 듯하다. 또 그는 성 바르나바(Barnabas)의 조카이며(골로 4,10), 키프로스(Cyprus) 태생의 레위 사람이다. 그는 예수께서 체포되실 때 몸에 고운 삼베만을 두른 젊은이가 예수를 따라가다가 붙들리게 되자, 삼베를 버리고 알몸으로 달아났던 인물로 여겨지나(마르 14,51-52) 확실하지는 않다.
그는 바오로(Paulus)와 바르나바를 수행하여 안티오키아(Antiochia)로 갔고(사도 12,25), 그 다음에는 키프로스로 바르나바와 함께 갔으며, 바르나바와 함께 바오로의 1차 전교여행을 수행하였다(사도 13,5). 그러나 밤필리아에서 바오로를 떠나 예루살렘으로 돌아온다(사도 13,13). 무슨 이유인지는 모르나 어쨌든 바오로와의 의견 대립 때문에 바오로의 제 1차 전교여행에는 동행하지 않았다(사도 15,36-40). 마르코는 바르나바와 함께 키프로스로 갔으며(사도 15,39), 바오로가 투옥되었을 때에는 로마(Roma)에 함께 있었다(골로 4,10).
그는 분명히 베드로(Petrus)의 제자였는데 베드로는 그를 애정 깊게 “내가 아들로 여기는 마르코”라고 언급한다(1베드 5,13). 불확실한 전승이지만 그는 알렉산드리아의 초대 주교였으며, 신약에서 여러 번 언급된 바와 같이 요한 마르코임이 분명하다(사도 12,25). 동방에서는 이 요한 마르코를 또 다른 사람으로 여기는데, 그는 비블로스(Byblos)의 주교라고 하며 9월 27일에 축일을 지낸다.
어쨌든 마르코는 60-70년 사이에 복음서를 기술했는데 주로 베드로의 가르침을 기초로 하였다. 소아시아의 히에라폴리스의 주교 파피아스는 그가 베드로의 통역자였다고 하며, 이방인 그리스도인을 위하여 로마에서 복음을 기술했다고 전한다. 마르코는 베네치아(Venezia)의 수호자이며 그의 유해는 그곳의 산마르코(San Marco) 대성당에 안장되었다고 한다. 그의 문장은 사자이다.
