Saturday before Epiphany
+ 요한 1요한 5,5-13
< 성령과 물과 피 >
해설) 하느님께서는 예수 그리스도를 통해 참 생명을 주십니다. 하느님께서는 예수 그리스도를 통하여 우리에게 영원한 생명을 주십니다. 그 영원한 생명이 예수 그리스도 안에 있습니다. 하느님의 아들을 모신 사람은 참 생명 안에 사는 사람입니다. 예수 그리스도를 믿고 따르는 사람은 영원한 생명을 받은 사람입니다.
사랑하는 여러분, 5 세상을 이기는 사람은 누구입니까? 예수님께서 하느님의 아드님이심을 믿는 사람이 아닙니까? 6 그분께서 바로 물과 피를 통하여 세상에 오신 예수 그리스도이십니다. 물만이 아니라 물과 피로써 오신 것입니다. 이것을 증언하시는 분은 성령이십니다. 성령은 곧 진리이십니다. 7 그래서 증언하는 것이 셋입니다. 8 성령과 물과 피인데, 이 셋은 하나로 모아집니다. 9 우리가 사람들의 증언을 받아들인다면, 하느님의 증언은 더욱 중대하지 않습니까? 그것이 하느님의 증언이기 때문입니다. 바로 하느님께서 당신 아드님에 관하여 친히 증언해 주셨습니다. 10 하느님의 아드님을 믿는 사람은 이 증언을 자신 안에 간직하고 있습니다. 하느님을 믿지 않는 자는 하느님을 거짓말쟁이로 만들어 버렸습니다. 하느님께서 당신의 아드님에 관하여 하신 증언을 믿지 않았기 때문입니다. 11 그 증언은 이렇습니다. 하느님께서 우리에게 영원한 생명을 주셨고 그 생명이 당신 아드님에게 있다는 것입니다. 12 아드님을 모시고 있는 사람은 그 생명을 지니고 있고, 하느님의 아드님을 모시고 있지 않는 사람은 그 생명을 지니고 있지 않습니다. 13 내가 여러분에게, 곧 하느님의 아드님의 이름을 믿는 이들에게 이 글을 쓰는 까닭은, 여러분이 영원한 생명을 지니고 있음을 알게 하려는 것입니다.

Beloved: 5 Who indeed is the victor over the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 6 This is the one who came through water and Blood, Jesus Christ,not by water alone, but by water and Blood. The Spirit is the one who testifies, and the Spirit is truth. 7 So there are three that testify, 8 the Spirit, the water, and the Blood, and the three are of one accord. 9 If we accept human testimony, the testimony of God is surely greater. Now the testimony of God is this, that he has testified on behalf of his Son. 10 Whoever believes in the Son of God has this testimony within himself.Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar by not believing the testimony God has given about his Son. 11 And this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever possesses the Son has life; whoever does not possess the Son of God does not have life. 13 I write these things to you so that you may know that you have eternal life, you who believe in the name of the Son of God.
묵상) 그리스도인은 믿음을 통해 하느님의 선물을 받고 그 믿음 안에서 영원한 생명을 살아갑니다. 참된 믿음은 예수 그리스도께서 당신의 죽음에 이르기까지 보여 주신 하느님의 참 사랑을 증거 합니다. 이것을 깨우쳐 주시는 분은 성령이십니다. 성령은 예수 그리스도의 말씀을 깨닫게 하며 그리스도를 따르는 삶을 살게 합니다.

< 너는 내가 사랑하는 아들, 내 마음에 드는 아들이다. >
해설) 주인이 외출했다가 돌아오면 종이 주인의 신발 끈을 풀어주는 법인데 세례자 요한은 그분께 그런 일을 해드릴 자격조차 없다고 고백합니다. 세례자 요한은 죄 사함을 위한 회개의 물세례를 주지만 오시기로 된 그분께서는 성령 세례를 베푸실 것이고 그분의 성령 세례로 모두가 주님의 성령을 받을 것입니다.
그때에 요한은 7 이렇게 선포하였다. “나보다 더 큰 능력을 지니신 분이 내 뒤에 오신다. 나는 몸을 굽혀 그분의 신발 끈을 풀어 드릴 자격조차 없다. 8 나는 너희에게 물로 세례를 주었지만, 그분께서는 너희에게 성령으로 세례를 주실 것이다.” 9 그 무렵에 예수님께서 갈릴래아 나자렛에서 오시어, 요르단에서 요한에게 세례를 받으셨다. 10 그리고 물에서 올라오신 예수님께서는 곧 하늘이 갈라지며 성령께서 비둘기처럼 당신께 내려오시는 것을 보셨다. 11 이어 하늘에서 소리가 들려왔다. “너는 내가 사랑하는 아들, 내 마음에 드는 아들이다.”

7 This is what John the Baptist proclaimed: "One mightier than I is coming after me. I am not worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs of his sandals. 8 I have baptized you with water; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit." 9 It happened in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John. 10 On coming up out of the water he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him. 11 And a voice came from the heavens, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased."
묵상) 예수님께서 세례를 받으시고 물에서 올라오실 때에 하늘이 갈라지고 성령께서 비둘기처럼 내려오시고 하늘에서는 ‘하느님의 사랑하는 아들’이라는 소리가 들립니다. 예수님의 세례에서 성부께서는 증언하시고, 성자는 증언이시며, 성령은 이를 확증합니다. 이로써 요르단 강에서 삼위일체의 신비가 드러나기 시작합니다.
예수님께서 세례를 받으실 때 하늘에서 내가 사랑하는 아들이라는 말씀이 들립니다. 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 세례를 받을 때 우리도 성령의 세례를 받고 하느님의 자녀가 됩니다. 성령의 도우심으로 우리는 예수 그리스도를 주님으로 그리고 구세주로 믿으며 하느님을 아버지라 부르게 됩니다.

세례를 받으시다
+ 마르코 1,7-11
1. 요한의 삶은 그리스도를 증언하는 삶이었습니다. 많은 사람들은 그가 메시아가 아닐까? 생각하며 그를 따랐지만 그럼에도 불구하고 요한은 자신이 아닌 예수님이야 말로 메시아로 오신 분임을 알립니다. 요한을 찾아와 세례를 청하시던 예수님을 만났을 때 요한은 어떤 생각과 마음이었을까요?
2. 예수님께서 세례 받고 계신 모습을 떠 올려 보십시오. 성령이 비둘기 모양으로 내려오고 하느님의 음성이 들려왔습니다. “너는 내가 사랑하는 아들, 내 마음에 드는 아들이다.”, 나 역시 세례를 받고 하느님의 자녀가 되었습니다. 내가 세례 받던 때를 기억해 보십시오. 하느님께서는 어떤 마음으로 나를 지켜보고 계셨을까요? 세례는 나에게 어떤 의미입니까?

Mark 1:7-11
Why did Jesus, the Sinless One, submit himself to John’s baptism? John preached a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins (Luke 3:3). In this humble submission we see a foreshadowing of the “baptism” of his bloody death upon the cross. Jesus’ baptism is the acceptance and the beginning of his mission as God’s suffering Servant. He allowed himself to be numbered among sinners. Jesus submitted himself entirely to his Father’s will. Out of love he consented to this baptism of death for the remission of our sins. Do you know the joy of trust and submission to God?
The Father proclaimed his entire delight in his Son and spoke audibly for all to hear. The Holy Spirit, too, was present as he anointed Jesus for his ministry which began that day as he rose from the waters of the Jordan river. Jesus will be the source of the Spirit for all who come to believe in him. At his baptism the heavens were opened and the waters were sanctified by the descent of Jesus and the Holy Spirit, signifying the beginning of a new creation.
How can we enter into the mystery of Jesus’ humble self-abasement and baptism? Gregory of Nazianzus, a seventh century Church father tells us: “Let us be buried with Christ by Baptism to rise with him; let us go down with him to be raised with him; and let us rise with him to be glorified with him." Do you want to see changes in your life? And do you want to become a more effective instrument of the gospel? Examine Jesus’ humility and ask the Holy Spirit to forge this same attitude in your heart. As you do, heaven will open for you as well. The Lord is ever ready to renew us in his Spirit and to anoint us for mission. We are called to be “light” and “salt” to those around us. The Lord wants his love and truth to shine through us that others may see the goodness and truth of God’s message of salvation. Ask the Lord to fill you with his Holy Spirit that you may radiate the joy of the gospel to those around you.
Do you ever fell compelled or driven to do something for God? Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit to spend forty days and nights in prayer and fasting in a lonely place. Why was he compelled to seek solitude for such a lengthy period? Was it simply a test to prepare him for his ministry? Or did Satan want to lure him into a trap? The word tempt in English usually means to entice to sin. The scriptural word here means test in the sense of proving and purifying someone to see if there are ready for the task at hand. We test pilots to see that they are fit to fly. Likewise God tests his servants to see if they are fit to be used by him. God tested Abraham to prove his faith. Jesus was no exception to this testing. Satan will try his best to induce us to choose our will over God's will. If he cannot induce us to apostasize or to sin mortally, he will then try to get us to make choices that will lead us away from what God wants for us. Jesus was tempted like us and he overcame not by his own human strength but by the grace and strength which his Father gave to him. He had to renounce his will for the will of his Father. He succeeded because he wanted to please his Father and he trusted that his Father would give him the strength to overcome the obstacles that stood in the way. The Lord gives us his Holy Spirit to be our strength and guide and our consoler in temptation and testing. God the Father is ready to give us all that we need to live in his way of love and righteousness. Do you rely on the Lord for your strength and help?
Prayer :
"Lord, fill me with your Holy Spirit and inflame my heart with the joy of the gospel. May I find joy in seeking to please you just as you found joy in seeking to please your Father". Amen

카롤루스(Carolus, 또는 가롤로)의 원래 이름은 요한 카롤루스 마르치오니(Joannes Carolus Marchioni)인데, 그는 이탈리아의 세체에서 가난한 부모 슬하에서 태어나 목동이 되었다가 사제가 되려는 간절한 소망을 가지고 살았다. 그러나 그는 읽고 쓰는 법을 제대로 배우지도 못한 그의 보잘 것 없는 학력 때문에 나지아노에서 수사가 되어 그때부터 부엌, 문지기, 정원 등등 수도원의 허드렛일을 도맡다시피 하였지만, 그의 높은 성덕과 단순성 그리고 애덕은 놀라울 정도여서 주위에 널리 알려지게 되었다.
그는 또한 신비적인 서적도 몇 권 기록했고, 더할 수 없을 정도로 금욕생활을 하였으며, 1656년에 발생한 흑사병 유행 때에는 참으로 영웅적으로 주민들을 도와 그의 위대성이 더욱 돋보였다. 그의 가족명은 원래 멜키오르이나 그는 세그레의 카롤루스로 널리 알려졌다. 그는 1959년 요한 23세(Joannes XXIII)에 의하여 시성되었다.
