해설) 바오로는 테살로니카 교우들이 어려움 속에서도 믿음을 잘 간직하고 있는 것을 주님의 무한하신 은총으로 믿고 감사하고 있습니다. 주님께서 그들을 사랑해 주시고 키워 주시며 굳건하게 해 주셨음을 바오로는 믿고 있습니다. 바오로는 주 하느님 앞에서 큰 기쁨을 맛보며 하느님께 무한한 감사를 드립니다.
7 형제 여러분, 여러분, 우리는 이 모든 재난과 환난 속에서도 여러분의 일로 격려를 받았습니다. 그것은 여러분의 믿음 때문입니다. 8 여러분이 주님 안에 굳건히 서 있다고 하니 우리는 이제 살았습니다. 9 우리가 여러분 덕분에 우리의 하느님 앞에서 누리는 이 기쁨을 두고, 하느님께 어떻게 감사를 드려야 하겠습니까? 10 우리는 여러분의 얼굴을 보고 또 여러분의 믿음에 부족한 부분을 채워 줄 수 있게 되기를 밤낮으로 아주 간절히 기도하고 있습니다. 11 하느님 우리 아버지께서 친히, 그리고 우리 주 예수님께서 우리가 여러분에게 갈 수 있도록 길을 열어 주시기를 빕니다. 12 여러분이 서로 지니고 있는 사랑과 다른 모든 사람을 향한 사랑도, 여러분에 대한 우리의 사랑처럼 주님께서 더욱 자라게 하시고 충만하게 하시며, 13 여러분의 마음에 힘을 북돋아 주시어, 우리 주 예수님께서 당신의 모든 성도들과 함께 재림하실 때, 여러분이 하느님 우리 아버지 앞에서 흠 없이 거룩한 사람으로 나설 수 있게 되기를 빕니다. 아멘.

7 We have been reassured about you, brothers and sisters, in our every distress and affliction, through your faith. 8 For we now live, if you stand firm in the Lord. 9 What thanksgiving, then, can we render to God for you, for all the joy we feel on your account before our God? 10 Night and day we pray beyond measure to see you in person and to remedy the deficiencies of your faith. 11 Now may God himself, our Father, and our Lord Jesus direct our way to you, 12 and may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, just as we have for you, 13 so as to strengthen your hearts, to be blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his holy ones. Amen.
묵상) 참 그리스도인의 기쁨은 자기가 혼자서 행한 일 자체에 있는 것이 아니고, 참 그리스도인의 자부심은 자기가 실현한 여러 가지 일 자체에 있는 것이 아닙니다. 주님께서 싹이 돋아 자라게 하시고 열매를 맺게 하시며 그 열매를 거두게 하십니다. 씨를 뿌리는 일은 우리가 하지만 거두시는 분은 주님이십니다.

< 너희도 준비하고 있어라. >
해설) 집주인이 도둑 올 시간을 정확히 알고 있다면 그 시간에 깨어 있을 것입니다. 그러나 사람의 아들이 아무도 생각지도 않은 때에 올 것이기 때문에 늘 깨어 있어야 합니다. 주님의 제자들은 그때가 언제인지 모르기 때문에 항상 준비하고 깨어 있어야 합니다. 주님을 맞이하기 위해서는 늘 준비하고 깨어 있는 특별한 경계심이 요구됩니다.
그때에 예수님께서 제자들에게 말씀하셨다. 42 “깨어 있어라. 너희의 주인이 어느 날에 올지 너희가 모르기 때문이다. 43 이것을 명심하여라. 도둑이 밤 몇 시에 올지 집주인이 알면, 깨어 있으면서 도둑이 자기 집을 뚫고 들어오도록 내버려 두지 않을 것이다. 44 그러니 너희도 준비하고 있어라. 너희가 생각하지도 않은 때에 사람의 아들이 올 것이기 때문이다. 45 주인이 종에게 자기 집안 식솔들을 맡겨 그들에게 제때에 양식을 내주게 하였으면, 어떻게 하는 종이 충실하고 슬기로운 종이겠느냐? 46 행복하여라, 주인이 돌아와서 볼 때에 그렇게 일하고 있는 종! 47 내가 진실로 너희에게 말한다. 주인은 자기의 모든 재산을 그에게 맡길 것이다. 48 그러나 만일 그가 못된 종이어서 마음속으로 ‘주인이 늦어지는구나.’ 하고 생각하며, 49 동료들을 때리기 시작하고 또 술꾼들과 어울려 먹고 마시면, 50 예상하지 못한 날, 짐작하지 못한 시간에 그 종의 주인이 와서, 51 그를 처단하여 위선자들과 같은 운명을 겪게 할 것이다. 거기에서 그는 울며 이를 갈 것이다.”

Jesus said to his disciples: 42 "Stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come. 43 Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour of night when the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and not let his house be broken into. 44 So too, you also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come. 45 "Who, then, is the faithful and prudent servant, whom the master has put in charge of his household to distribute to them their food at the proper time? 46 Blessed is that servant whom his master on his arrival finds doing so. 47 Amen, I say to you, he will put him in charge of all his property. 48 But if that wicked servant says to himself, 'My master is long delayed,' 49 and begins to beat his fellow servants, and eat and drink with drunkards, 50 the servant's master will come on an unexpected day and at an unknown hour 51 and will punish him severely and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth."
묵상) 아무도 생각지 않은 순간에 갑자기 주님이 오실 것입니다. 그날은 주님과 만나는 날이며 우리가 생을 마감하는 날이 될 수도 있습니다. 아무도 그날을 모르며 우리가 언제 주님을 맞이할 지 예측할 수도 없습니다. 죽음은 일하는 중에나 잠을 잘 때나 놀고 있을 때 갑자기 닥칠 수 있습니다. 죽음에 대한 준비가 재림에 대한 준비입니다.
주님께서 우리에게 이 세상을 맡기십니다. 주님께서 우리에게 이 나라와 가정과 사람들을 맡기십니다. 작은 일에 충실한 사람은 큰일도 잘할 수 있을 것입니다. 자신을 사랑하는 사람이 이웃도 세상도 사랑할 것입니다. 주님의 사랑이 바로 나를 통하여 세상에 실현될 수 있도록 최선을 다하여 살아야합니다.

깨어 있어라
+ 마태오 24, 42-51
1. "깨어 있어라"라는 주님의 말씀은 지금 내게 무엇을 의미하며, 나는 어떤 준비하여야 합니까? 나는 얼마나 주님을 의식하며 살고 있습니까? 언제 부르실지 모르는 그 때를 대비하여 주님의 음성에 귀 기울이며 깨어있는 삶을 살아가고 있습니까?
2. 주님께서는 나에게 어떤 일들을 맡기고 가셨습니까? 나는 주님의 종으로써 나의 직무를 충실히 하고 있습니까? 나는 오늘 내가 완수해야할 일들을 내일로 미루며 게으름 피고 있지는 않습니까? 주님께서 돌아오셨을 때, 지금 나의 모습을 보시고 어떤 말씀을 하실 것 같습니까?
Today’s Reflection :
1 Thessalonians 3:7-13 / Matthew 24:42-51
In our first reading we see St Paul praising the Thessalonians because he has heard from St Timothy of their great faith. He is currently in Corinth where things are not going so well for him and he tells them that he wishes he could see them again as this would be a boost to him. Having praised them he goes on to encourage them to a greater love than they already have, a love which would encompass the whole human race.
In the Gospel we see Jesus exhorting the people to be always ready because nobody knows when this life will end. We cannot be Christians whenever it suits us but must always live out our Christianity so that whenever the Lord does call he will find us ready and pure.
If you knew that an impending disaster, such as a flood or hurricane, was about to destroy your home and threaten your life, wouldn't you make preparation to escape and find refuge in a safe place? Jesus warned his followers to avert spiritual disaster and to not be caught off-guard when the "day of judgment" would strike the earth and its inhabitants. The "Day of the Lord" was understood in the Old Testament as the time when God would manifest his power and glory, and overthrow his enemies. Isaiah describes it as a day when God will bring down the proud and the arrogant who flaunt his law (Isaiah 2:11). That day will be darkness, gloom, disaster, and desolation for the earth when "God will punish the world for its evil and the wicked for their iniquity" (Isaiah 13:6-11). The prophet Amos declared that the "Day" meant judgment for the house of Israel as well, and not just the other nations who followed other gods (Amos 5:18-20). The prophet Joel proclaimed that at this "Day" those who truly repented would be saved, while those who remained enemies of God, whether Jew or Gentile, would be punished.
Prayer :
“Lord, you have captured my heart for you. Make it strong in faith, steadfast in hope, and generous in love that I may seek to please you in all things and bring you glory. Keep me ever watchful for the coming of your kingdom.” Amen.
성 라이문도 논나토(Saint Raymund Nonnatus)

에스파냐 카탈루냐(Cataluna) 지방의 포르텔라(Portella)에서 태어난 성 라이문두스 논나투스(Raymundus Nonnatus, 또는 라이문도 논나토)는 자신을 낳던 중에 어머니가 죽음으로써 제왕절개 수술로 생명을 얻었다. 이 때문에 ‘논나투스’ 즉 태어나지 않았다는 별명을 얻은 것이다.
그는 바르셀로나(Barcelona)에서 성 베드로 놀라스코(Petrus Nolasco, 1월 28일)의 지도하에 메르체다리오회 회원이 되었고, 노예를 대속하기 위해서 알제리(Algeria)로 파견되었다. 그는 대속금이 바닥이 났을 때에는 인질로 잡혀 있었는데, 목숨을 걸고 탈출한 사실도 있다. 그런 후에도 계속하여 활동하다가 8개월간 포로로 잡혀 있던 중, 성 베드로 놀라스코에 의하여 석방되었다. 1239년 바르셀로나로 돌아온 그는 교황 그레고리우스 9세(Gregorius IX)에 의하여 추기경으로 임명되었고, 그 다음해 8월 31일에 바르셀로나 근교의 카르도나(Cardona)에서 세상을 떠났다. 그에 대한 공경은 1625년 교황 우르바누스 8세(Urbanus VIII)에 의해 허용되었고, 1657년 교황 알렉산데르 7세(Alexander VII)는 그를 성인품에 올렸다. 그는 조산원의 수호성인이다.
