Friday of the Thirteenth Week in Ordinary Time

해설) 지금까지 팔레스티나 지방의 땅을 한 줌도 소유하지 않았던 아브라함은 사라의 죽음을 계기로 가족을 안장할 수 있는 마므레 맞은쪽 막펠라에 있는 에프론의 밭을 사들입니다. 이로써 하느님께서 아브라함에게 하신 약속이 실현될 수 있는 계기가 마련된 것입니다. 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅을 주시겠다는 계약의 첫 실현입니다.
1 사라는 백이십칠 년을 살았다. 이것이 사라가 산 햇수이다. 2 사라는 가나안 땅 키르얏 아르바 곧 헤브론에서 죽었다. 아브라함은 빈소에 들어가 사라의 죽음을 애도하며 슬피 울었다. 3 그런 다음 아브라함은 죽은 아내 앞에서 물러 나와 히타이트 사람들에게 가서 말하였다. 4 “나는 이방인이며 거류민으로 여러분 곁에 살고 있습니다. 죽은 내 아내를 내어다 안장할 수 있게, 여러분 곁에 있는 묘지를 양도해 주십시오.” 19 그런 다음 아브라함은 가나안 땅 마므레, 곧 헤브론 맞은쪽 막펠라 밭에 있는 동굴에 자기 아내 사라를 안장하였다. 24,1 아브라함은 이제 늙고 나이가 무척 많았다. 주님께서는 모든 일마다 아브라함에게 복을 내려 주셨다. 2 아브라함은 자기의 모든 재산을 맡아보는, 집안의 가장 늙은 종에게 말하였다. “네 손을 내 샅에 넣어라. 3 나는 네가 하늘의 하느님이시며 땅의 하느님이신 주님을 두고 맹세하게 하겠다. 내가 살고 있는 이곳 가나안족의 딸들 가운데에서 내 아들의 아내가 될 여자를 데려오지 않고, 4 내 고향, 내 친족에게 가서 내 아들 이사악의 아내가 될 여자를 데려오겠다고 하여라.” 5 그 종이 아브라함에게 물었다. “그 여자가 저를 따라 이 땅으로 오려고 하지 않을지도 모릅니다. 제가 아드님을 나리께서 떠나오신 그 땅으로 데려가야 합니까?” 6 그러자 아브라함이 그에게 대답하였다. “너는 내 아들을 그곳으로 데려가는 일이 없도록 조심하여라. 7 하늘의 하느님이신 주님, 곧 나를 아버지의 집과 내 본고장에서 데려오시고, ‘내가 네 후손에게 이 땅을 주겠다.’고 나에게 말씀하시며 맹세하신 그분께서 당신 천사를 네 앞에 보내시어, 네가 그곳에서 내 아들의 아내가 될 여자를 데려올 수 있게 해 주실 것이다. 8 그 여자가 너를 따라오려고 하지 않으면, 너는 나에게 한 맹세에서 풀리게 된다. 다만 내 아들만은 그곳으로 데려가서는 안 된다.” 세월이 흘러 62 이사악은 브에르 라하이 로이를 떠나, 네겝 땅에 살고 있었다. 63 저녁 무렵 이사악이 들에 바람을 쐬러 나갔다가 눈을 들어 보니, 낙타 떼가 오고 있었다. 64 레베카도 눈을 들어 이사악을 보고서는 얼른 낙타에서 내려, 65 그 종에게 물었다. “들을 가로질러 우리 쪽으로 오는 저 남자는 누구입니까?” 그 종이 “그분은 나의 주인입니다.” 하고 대답하자, 레베카는 너울을 꺼내어 얼굴을 가렸다. 66 그 종은 이사악에게 자기가 한 모든 일을 이야기하였다. 67 이사악은 레베카를 자기 어머니 사라의 천막으로 데리고 들어가서, 그를 아내로 맞아들였다. 이사악은 레베카를 사랑하였다. 이로써 이사악은 어머니를 여읜 뒤에 위로를 받게 되었다.

1 The span of Sarah's life was one hundred and twenty-seven years. 2 She died in Kiriatharba (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan, and Abraham performed the customary mourning rites for her. 3 Then he left the side of his dead one and addressed the Hittites: 4"Although I am a resident alien among you, sell me from your holdings a piece of property for a burial ground, that I may bury my dead wife." 19 After the transaction, Abraham buried his wife Sarah in the cave of the field of Machpelah, facing Mamre (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan. 24:1 Abraham had now reached a ripe old age, and the LORD had blessed him in every way. 2 Abraham said to the senior servant of his household, who had charge of all his possessions: "Put your hand under my thigh, 3 and I will make you swear by the LORD, the God of heaven and the God of earth, that you will not procure a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites among whom I live, 4 but that you will go to my own land and to my kindred to get a wife for my son Isaac." 5 The servant asked him: "What if the woman is unwilling to follow me to this land? Should I then take your son back to the land from which you migrated?" 6 "Never take my son back there for any reason," Abraham told him. 7 "The LORD, the God of heaven, who took me from my father's house and the land of my kin, and who confirmed by oath the promise he then made to me, 'I will give this land to your descendants'– he will send his messenger before you, and you will obtain a wife for my son there. 8 If the woman is unwilling to follow you, you will be released from this oath. But never take my son back there!" 62 A long time later, Isaac went to live in the region of the Negeb. 63 One day toward evening he went out in the field, and as he looked around, he noticed that camels were approaching. 64 Rebekah, too, was looking about, and when she saw him, she alighted from her camel and asked the servant, 65 "Who is the man out there, walking through the fields toward us?""That is my master," replied the servant. Then she covered herself with her veil. 66 The servant recounted to Isaac all the things he had done. 67 Then Isaac took Rebekah into his tent; he married her, and thus she became his wife. In his love for her, Isaac found solace after the death of his mother Sarah.
묵상) 아브라함의 믿음은 약속의 성취를 위하여 어떤 일도 할 준비가 되어 있습니다. 아브라함은 약속의 성취를 위하여 약속의 땅 일부를 구입했고, 아들 이사악의 아내감을 구하려 고향 땅으로 종을 보냈습니다. 그리스도인의 믿음 역시 하느님의 구원 계획이 실현되도록 모든 수단과 협력을 아끼지 말아야 합니다.

해설) 바리사이들은 율법을 지키지 않는 사람들을 경멸하고 죄인이라고 낙인찍어 상종하지 않았습니다. 세리들과 죄인들 그리고 창녀들이 그런 사람들입니다. 세리는 이방인들과 상종하고 부정한 수입 때문에 직업상의 죄인인 것입니다. 경건한 바리사이들은 이런 죄인들과 함께 식사하는 것을 매우 수치스럽게 생각했습니다.
그때에 9 예수님께서 길을 가시다가 마태오라는 사람이 세관에 앉아 있는 것을 보시고 말씀하셨다. “나를 따라라.” 그러자 마태오는 일어나 그분을 따랐다. 10 예수님께서 집에서 식탁에 앉게 되셨는데, 마침 많은 세리와 죄인도 와서 예수님과 그분의 제자들과 자리를 함께하였다. 11 그것을 본 바리사이들이 그분의 제자들에게 말하였다. “당신네 스승은 어째서 세리와 죄인들과 함께 음식을 먹는 것이오?” 12 예수님께서 이 말을 들으시고 그들에게 말씀하셨다. “튼튼한 이들에게는 의사가 필요하지 않으나 병든 이들에게는 필요하다. 13 너희는 가서 ‘내가 바라는 것은 희생 제물이 아니라 자비다.’ 하신 말씀이 무슨 뜻인지 배워라. 사실 나는 의인이 아니라 죄인을 부르러 왔다.”

As Jesus passed by, 9 he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the customs post. He said to him, "Follow me." And he got up and followed him. 10 While he was at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat with Jesus and his disciples. 11 The Pharisees saw this and said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" 12 He heard this and said, "Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do.13 Go and learn the meaning of the words, I desire mercy, not sacrifice. I did not come to call the righteous but sinners."
묵상) 예수님께서는 죄인들과 자주 어울리셨습니다. 예수님께서는 이스라엘 백성 모두를 사랑하셨지만 특히 죄인들에게 애정을 쏟으셨습니다. 의사는 성한 사람들보다 앓는 사람들에게 필요합니다. 예수님께서는 의인들 보다 죄인들을 부르러 오신 것입니다. 하느님께서 진정 원하시는 바는 희생 제사가 아니라 사랑과 자비입니다.
세상의 관계는 대부분‘있는’사람들 위주로 이루어집니다. 그러나 예수님의 자비는 ‘없는’사람들에게 열려 있습니다. 가진 것이 없기에 세상으로부터 배척당하는 사람들에게 사랑의 이름으로 다가서야 합니다. 그러면 사람의 부족한 부분을 채워주시는 분이 주님이시기에 그 사람들 안에 자리하고 계신 주님을 만나는 복된 기회가 될 것입니다.

마태오를 부르심
+ 마태오 9, 9-13
1. 마태오는 자신의 삶의 자리에서 주님의 부르심을 받았습니다. 나는 나의 삶에서 언제 "나를 따르라"는 주님의 부르심을 받았고, 그때 나의 응답은 어떠하였습니까?
2. 예수님은 사람들이 가까이 하지 않는 사람들을 찾아 함께 친구가 되십니다. 왜입니까? 내 주위에는 있는 세리와 죄인들은 누구입니까? 나는 그들을 차별하지 않고 사랑하고 자선을 베풀 수 있습니까?
Today’s Reflection : Genesis 23:1-4, 19, 24:1-8, 62-67; Matthew 9:9-13
Our first reading today recounts the finding of a wife for Isaac. Sarah has died and Abraham is anxious that Isaac marry a woman of his own tribe so as not to contaminate the line chosen by God through marriage to a local Canaanite. Abraham’s senior servant therefore travels back to Mesopotamia and is guided by the Lord who leads him to Rebekah. Upon returning to the land of Canaan they are met by Isaac who weds Rebekah.
We again read in the Gospel of Jesus coming into conflict with the Pharisees, this time because he was eating with people they considered to be sinners. He reminds them that healthy people do not need a doctor and so he has come to call the sinners to repentance because the virtuous are already on the right path. It is a reminder to us that even those who consider themselves to be virtuous are sinners because they have judged others by their own standards and have not been merciful in their consideration of others. When it comes to faith we must not consider others to be inferior to us but must always realize that we can be better than we currently are.
Personal Question:
How do I feel when I consider that Jesus loves me not despite the fact that I sin, but he loves me as I sin?
Prayer :
Lord Jesus, come to me now. It’s tempting to make myself look presentable before calling on you, but that’s a ruse. I need you here in my joys and my sorrows, in whatever mess I find myself at this very moment. Heal me. Amen.

웨식스(Wessex)의 리카르두스(Richardus, 2월 7일) 왕의 아들인 성 빌레발두스(Willebaldus, 또는 빌레발도)는 웨식스(Wessex)에서 태어나 월샘(Waltham) 수도원에서 교육을 받고, 721년에 부친과 형제들을 따라 로마(Roma)와 예루살렘(Jerusalem) 성지순례 길에 올랐다. 그의 부친은 이탈리아의 루카(Lucca)에서 운명했지만 그는 예루살렘까지 순례하였다. 그러다가 에메사(Emesa)에서 스파이 혐의로 사라센인들에게 투옥되기도 했으나 무혐의로 석방되어 순례를 계속할 수 있었다. 그는 몬테카시노(Monte Cassino)에서 10년을 살았고, 740년경에 로마에서 성 그레고리우스 3세(Gregorius III) 교황을 만나 선교사 자격을 받고 파견되었다.
그가 독일 중부 튀링겐(Thuringen)으로 갔을 때 성 보니파티우스(Bonifatius, 6월 5일)는 그를 사제로 서품하였다. 그는 뛰어난 선교사의 자질을 보였고, 그의 업적 또한 대단히 성공적이었기 때문에 아이크슈태트의 주교로 임명되었다. 그는 약 40년간 교구를 다스리다가 운명했다. 그는 성지를 순례한 최초의 영국 사람으로 꼽히며, 그가 쓴 "오도에포리콘"이란 순례기는 영국 최초의 여행 안내서로 인정받는다. 그는 938년에 교황 레오 7세(Leo VII)로부터 시성되었다. 그는 빌리발두스(Willibaldus)로도 불린다.
