< 너는 로마에서도 증언해야 한다. >
해설) 천인대장은 바오로를 직접 데리고 의회에 나와서 유다인들이 왜 그를 고발하는지 알려고 하였습니다. 바오로는 최고의회 의원들 앞에서 조금도 두려워하지 않았습니다. 그는 언제나 하느님의 더 큰 영광과 하느님의 구원을 위해 살아왔기 때문입니다. 하느님을 향한 바오로 사도의 열정은 회심 전이나 이후나 마찬가지였습니다.
그 무렵 30 천인대장은 유다인들이 왜 바오로를 고발하는지 확실히 알아보려고, 바오로를 풀어 주고 나서 명령을 내려, 수석 사제들과 온 최고 의회를 소집하였다. 그리고 바오로를 데리고 내려가 그들 앞에 세웠다. 23,6 의원들 가운데 일부는 사두가이들이고 일부는 바리사이들이라는 것을 알고, 바오로는 최고 의회에서 이렇게 외쳤다. “형제 여러분, 나는 바리사이이며 바리사이의 아들입니다. 나는 죽은 이들이 부활하리라는 희망 때문에 재판을 받고 있는 것입니다.” 7 바오로가 이런 말을 하자 바리사이들과 사두가이들 사이에 논쟁이 벌어지면서 회중이 둘로 갈라졌다. 8 사실 사두가이들은 부활도 천사도 영도 없다고 주장하고, 바리사이들은 그것을 다 인정하였다. 9 그래서 큰 소란이 벌어졌는데, 바리사이파에서 율법 학자 몇 사람이 일어나 강력히 항의하였다. “우리는 이 사람에게서 아무 잘못도 찾을 수 없습니다. 그리고 영이나 천사가 그에게 말하였다면 어떻게 할 셈입니까?” 10 논쟁이 격렬해지자 천인대장은 바오로가 그들에게 찢겨 죽지 않을까 염려하여, 내려가 그들 가운데에서 바오로를 빼내어 진지 안으로 데려가라고 부대에 명령하였다. 11 그날 밤에 주님께서 바오로 앞에 서시어 그에게 이르셨다. “용기를 내어라. 너는 예루살렘에서 나를 위하여 증언한 것처럼 로마에서도 증언해야 한다.”

30 Wishing to determine the truth about why Paul was being accused by the Jews, the commander freed him and ordered the chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin to convene. Then he brought Paul down and made him stand before them. 23:6 Paul was aware that some were Sadducees and some Pharisees, so he called out before the Sanhedrin, "My brothers, I am a Pharisee, the son of Pharisees; I am on trial for hope in the resurrection of the dead." 7 When he said this, a dispute broke out between the Pharisees and Sadducees, and the group became divided. 8 For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection or angels or spirits, while the Pharisees acknowledge all three. 9 A great uproar occurred, and some scribes belonging to the Pharisee party stood up and sharply argued, "We find nothing wrong with this man. Suppose a spirit or an angel has spoken to him?" 10 The dispute was so serious that the commander, afraid that Paul would be torn to pieces by them, ordered his troops to go down and rescue Paul from their midst and take him into the compound. 11 The following night the Lord stood by him and said, "Take courage. For just as you have borne witness to my cause in Jerusalem, so you must also bear witness in Rome."
묵상) 바오로는 유다교 바리사이였습니다. 바리사이들은 죽은 자들의 부활에 대한 희망을 가지고 있는 사람들입니다. 바오로는 과거의 바리사이가 아니라 예수님의 부활을 믿는 그리스도인이라고 분명히 밝혔습니다. 부활 신앙은 예수 그리스도를 바르게 믿는 사람들이 받는 하느님 은총의 선물입니다.

< 아들이 완전히 하나가 되게 해 주십시오. >
해설) 예수님께서는 제자들의 활동으로 믿음을 가지게 된 모든 이들을 위해서 하느님께 간구하십니다. 예수님 기도의 핵심은 공동체의 일치입니다. 이 일치는 아버지와 아들의 일치 안에 그 근원이 있고, 특히 아버지의 사랑이 그 배경을 이루고 있습니다. 참된 일치는 하느님 아버지에 대한 참 사랑으로써만 이룰 수 있습니다.
그때에 예수님께서 하늘을 향하여 눈을 들어 기도하셨다. “거룩하신 아버지, 20 저는 이들만이 아니라 이들의 말을 듣고 저를 믿는 이들을 위해서도 빕니다. 21 그들이 모두 하나가 되게 해 주십시오. 아버지, 아버지께서 제 안에 계시고 제가 아버지 안에 있듯이, 그들도 우리 안에 있게 해 주십시오. 그리하여 아버지께서 저를 보내셨다는 것을 세상이 믿게 하십시오. 22 아버지께서 저에게 주신 영광을 저도 그들에게 주었습니다. 우리가 하나인 것처럼 그들도 하나가 되게 하려는 것입니다. 23 저는 그들 안에 있고, 아버지께서는 제 안에 계십니다. 이는 그들이 완전히 하나가 되게 하려는 것입니다. 그리고 아버지께서 저를 보내시고, 또 저를 사랑하셨듯이 그들도 사랑하셨다는 것을 세상이 알게 하려는 것입니다. 24 아버지, 아버지께서 저에게 주신 이들도 제가 있는 곳에 저와 함께 있게 되기를 바랍니다. 세상 창조 이전부터 아버지께서 저를 사랑하시어 저에게 주신 영광을 그들도 보게 되기를 바랍니다. 25 의로우신 아버지, 세상은 아버지를 알지 못하였지만 저는 아버지를 알고 있었습니다. 그들도 아버지께서 저를 보내셨다는 것을 알게 되었습니다. 26 저는 그들에게 아버지의 이름을 알려 주었고 앞으로도 알려 주겠습니다. 아버지께서 저를 사랑하신 그 사랑이 그들 안에 있고 저도 그들 안에 있게 하려는 것입니다.”

Lifting up his eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed saying: 20 "I pray not only for these, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me. 22 And I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may be one, as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may be brought to perfection as one, that the world may know that you sent me, and that you loved them even as you loved me. 24 Father, they are your gift to me. I wish that where I am they also may be with me,that they may see my glory that you gave me, because you loved me before the foundation of the world. 25 Righteous Father, the world also does not know you, but I know you, and they know that you sent me. 26 I made known to them your name and I will make it known, that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in them."
묵상) 믿는 이들의 공동체 안에서의 일치는 아버지와 아들의 일치에 그 근원이 있고, 아버지와 아들의 일치 안에 믿는 이들의 공동체가 받아들여집니다. 아버지와 아들의 일치는 믿는 이들의 일치를 위한 원형이고 모범일 뿐만 아니라 모든 일치를 가능케 하는 원천입니다. 그리스도 공동체의 참된 일치는 공동체와 아버지와 아들의 일치에 있습니다.
요즈음 많은 사람들이 성경을 읽습니다. 그러나 성경과 예수님에 대한 것이 단지 지식에만 머물러 있어서는 안 됩니다. 예수님을 성경 안에서 만나고 예수님을 우리 삶의 중심에 모셔야 합니다. 우리 안에 예수님 사랑으로 가득 찰 때 비로소 예수님과 우리가 하나 될 것입니다. 예수님과 우리가 하나가 되면 진정 이웃과도 하나가 될 것입니다.

믿는 이들을 위하여 기도하시다.
+ 요한 17,20-26
1. 아버지 하느님께 우리를 위하여 기도하시는 예수님의 모습을 마음속으로 그려 보십시오. 우리들의 화합과 일치를 위해 기도하시는 예수님의 모습에 나의 마음은 어떻게 반응하고 있습니까?
2. 내가 하느님 중심의 삶을 살기 위하여, 주님과 일치되기 위하여, 또 이웃과 하나되기 위하여 노력해야 하는 것은 무엇입니까? 내가 쥐고 있는 것 중에서 무엇을 내려 놓아야 합니까?
Today’s Gospel Reflection : John 17:20-26
Who is your brother and sister in Christ? On the eve of his sacrifice, when Jesus celebrated his last supper with his apostles, he prayed for their unity and for the unity of all who would believe in him and become his disciples. God desires unity for all of his people, for married couples, families, communities, and churches across every land and nation. Sadly division and strife is often the result of personal pride, sin, prejudice, and the failure to love, forgive, and reconcile. That is why prayer is so necessary, both for safeguarding unity and for healing and restoration wherever unity has been broken.
Jesus knew the weakness of his disciples, their competitive spirit to see who would rank first, their dislike for Samaritans and others who were not of their own company, and the fear that would scatter them and make them deny their Lord when Jesus' enemies arrested him in the Garden of Gethsemani and nailed him to the cross on Calvary. John tells us that Jesus loved his own to the very end (John 13:1). Nothing could break nor diminish the love he had for them, not even betrayal and rejection. As disciples of Jesus we are called to love and lay down our lives for all who believe in him. If we are willing to die for our brothers and sisters in Christ, how much more should we strive to live in harmony, love, and unity with one another.
Jesus' high priestly prayer at the last supper is directed towards all who will come after him and follow him as his disciples. In a special way Jesus prays here for us that as members of his body the church we would be united in one heart and mind as he and his Father are one. The unity of Jesus and his Father is a unity of mind and heart, mutal love and trust, honor and respect. Because Jesus loved us first and united us in baptism we are called to live in a unity of love. Jesus’ prayer on the eve of his sacrifice shows the great love and trust he has in his beloved disciples. He knows they would abandon him in his hour of trial, yet he entrusted to them the great task of spreading his name throughout the world and to the end of the ages. The Lord entrust us with the same mission – to make him known and loved by all. Jesus died and rose again that all might be one as he and the Father are one. Do you love and accept all baptized Christians as your brothers and sisters in Christ?

Prayer :
"Lord God, have mercy on your people and heal the divisions in the body of Christ. May all Christian people throughout the world attain the unity for which Jesus prayed on the eve of his sacrifice. Renew in us the power of the Spirit that we may be a sign of that unity and a means of its growth. Increase in us a fervent love for all our brothers and sisters in Christ." Amen

성 유스티누스(Justinus, 또는 유스티노)는 100-110년 사이에 팔레스티나(Palestina)의 사마리아 지방에 세워진 플라비아 네아폴리스(Flavia Neapolis)의 이교 가정에서 태어났다. 어렸을 때의 성장 과정은 알려져 있지 않지만 그는 진리를 찾는 구도자의 자세로 꾸준히 탐구하는 학구적인 사람이었다. 그는 스토아 철학, 아리스토텔레스 철학, 피타고라스 철학 그리고 플라톤 철학에 연이어 몰두하였지만 만족하지 못했다.
그러던 어느 날 카에사레아(Caesarea)의 바닷가를 산책하던 중에 한 노인을 만나 인간의 모든 사상, 플라톤 사상에도 한계와 부족함이 있다는 사실을 깨닫고 그리스도교에 입교하였다. 그가 그리스도교에 심취하게 된 또 다른 이유는 순교자들의 영웅적인 태도에 감동했기 때문이다. 성 유스티누스가 에페수스(Ephesus)에서 세례를 받고 그리스도교 신자가 된 것은 130년경이다. 그는 이후 구도자로서가 아니라 진리의 설파자, 신앙의 설교가로 길을 바꾸어 한평생을 하느님께 봉헌하였다. 그는 평신도였으나 스승이며 복음의 사도가 된 것이다.
그는 132-135년 사이에 에페수스에서 유대인 트리폰과 종교에 관한 토론을 가졌으며, 이것을 토대로 155년에 “트리폰과의 대화”(Dialogue with Trypho the Jew)를 저술하였다. 그는 순회교사로서 여러 지방을 돌아다니며 가르치다가 안토니우스 피우스(Antonius Pius) 황제가 있는 로마(Roma)에 도착해서 그곳에 머물며 자기 집에서 교리를 가르치는 학교(schola)를 세웠다. 유스티누스는 그리스도인들에 대한 박해를 항의하는 2편의 “호교론”(Prima Apologia, Secunda Apologia)을 썼다.
그는 그리스도교의 첫 번째 호교론자이며 또 그리스도교에 대한 장문의 글을 남긴 최초의 평신도이다. 그는 크레센스라는 견유학파 사람과 논쟁을 벌이다가 그의 사주로 인하여 로마(Rome)의 집정관인 유니우스 루스티쿠스(Junius Rusticus)에게 고발되어 다른 6명의 동료들과 함께 체포되었다. 그들은 이방 신전에 희생물을 바치라는 요구를 거절하고 수많은 고문을 당한 후 참수형을 받고 순교하였다. 그는 2세기 호교론자들 중에서 가장 뛰어난 신학자였다.
