Tuesday of the Sixth Week of Easter
+ 사도행전 16, 22-34
<주 예수님을 믿으시오. 그러면 그대와 그대의 집안이 구원을 받을 것이오. >
해설) 바오로의 일행이 길을 가다가 귀신이 들린 여종을 만나 악령을 쫓아 버렸습니다. 여종의 주인은 그녀의 신통력을 이용하여 돈벌이를 하곤 하였습니다. 점 귀신이 여종에게서 떠나가 버려서 돈벌이의 희망이 사라지자, 여종의 주인은 바오로의 일행을 붙잡아 광장 법정으로 끌고 가서 고발하였습니다.
그 무렵 필리피의 22 군중이 합세하여 바오로와 실라스를 공격하자, 행정관들은 그 두 사람의 옷을 찢어 벗기고 매로 치라고 지시하였다. 23 그렇게 매질을 많이 하게 한 뒤 그들을 감옥에 가두고, 간수에게 단단히 지키라고 명령하였다. 24 이러한 명령을 받은 간수는 그들을 가장 깊은 감방에 가두고 그들의 발에 차꼬를 채웠다. 25 자정 무렵에 바오로와 실라스는 하느님께 찬미가를 부르며 기도하고, 다른 수인들은 거기에 귀를 기울이고 있었다. 26 그런데 갑자기 큰 지진이 일어나 감옥의 기초가 뒤흔들렸다. 그리고 즉시 문들이 모두 열리고 사슬이 다 풀렸다. 27 잠에서 깨어난 간수는 감옥 문들이 열려 있는 것을 보고 칼을 빼어 자결하려고 하였다. 수인들이 달아났으려니 생각하였던 것이다. 28 그때에 바오로가 큰 소리로, “자신을 해치지 마시오. 우리가 다 여기에 있소.” 하고 말하였다. 29 그러자 간수가 횃불을 달라고 하여 안으로 뛰어 들어가 무서워 떨면서 바오로와 실라스 앞에 엎드렸다. 30 그리고 그들을 밖으로 데리고 나가, “두 분 선생님, 제가 구원을 받으려면 어떻게 해야 합니까?” 하고 물었다. 31 그들이 대답하였다. “주 예수님을 믿으시오. 그러면 그대와 그대의 집안이 구원을 받을 것이오.”32 그리고 간수와 그 집의 모든 사람에게 주님의 말씀을 들려주었다. 33 간수는 그날 밤 그 시간에 그들을 데리고 가서 상처를 씻어 주고, 그 자리에서 그와 온 가족이 세례를 받았다. 34 이어서 그들을 자기 집 안으로 데려다가 음식을 대접하고, 하느님을 믿게 된 것을 온 집안과 더불어 기뻐하였다.

22 The crowd in Philippi joined in the attack on Paul and Silas, and the magistrates had them stripped and ordered them to be beaten with rods. 23 After inflicting many blows on them, they threw them into prison and instructed the jailer to guard them securely. 24 When he received these instructions, he put them in the innermost cell and secured their feet to a stake. 25 About midnight, while Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God as the prisoners listened, 26 there was suddenly such a severe earthquake that the foundations of the jail shook; all the doors flew open, and the chains of all were pulled loose. 27 When the jailer woke up and saw the prison doors wide open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, thinking that the prisoners had escaped. 28 But Paul shouted out in a loud voice, "Do no harm to yourself; we are all here." 29 He asked for a light and rushed in and, trembling with fear, he fell down before Paul and Silas. 30 Then he brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" 31 And they said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus and you and your household will be saved." 32 So they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to everyone in his house. 33 He took them in at that hour of the night and bathed their wounds; then he and all his family were baptized at once. 34 He brought them up into his house and provided a meal and with his household rejoiced at having come to faith in God.
묵상) 바오로의 일행은 깊숙한 감방에 갇혔고 그들의 발에는 쇠사슬이 채워져 있었습니다. 바오로의 일행이 기도하면서 하느님을 찬미하고 있을 때 큰 지진과 함께 감옥의 문들이 모두 열리고 쇠사슬이 모두 다 풀렸습니다. 한밤중에 일어난 이 사건은 묶여 있는 자들을 풀어 주시는 주님의 놀라운 사건이었습니다.

< 내가 떠나지 않으면 보호자께서 너희에게 오지 않으신다. >
해설) 성령께서는 예수님이 행하신 일들을 계속 수행하는 분으로서, 세상에 대한 심판과 제자들을 위한 활동을 할 것입니다. 성령께서 오시면 제자들의 증언을 통해서 죄와 의로움과 심판에 대한 세상의 그릇된 생각을 들추어내어 올바르게 해 줌으로써 세상에 승리를 가져올 것입니다. 그리스도를 믿지 않는 것이 가장 큰 죄입니다.
그때에 예수님께서 제자들에게 말씀하셨다. 5 “이제 나는 나를 보내신 분께 간다. 그런데도 ‘어디로 가십니까?’ 하고 묻는 사람이 너희 가운데 아무도 없다. 6 오히려 내가 이 말을 하였기 때문에 너희 마음에 근심이 가득 찼다. 7 그러나 너희에게 진실을 말하는데, 내가 떠나는 것이 너희에게 이롭다. 내가 떠나지 않으면 보호자께서 너희에게 오지 않으신다. 그러나 내가 가면 그분을 너희에게 보내겠다. 8 보호자께서 오시면 죄와 의로움과 심판에 관한 세상의 그릇된 생각을 밝히실 것이다. 9 그들이 죄에 관하여 잘못 생각하는 것은 나를 믿지 않기 때문이고, 10 그들이 의로움에 관하여 잘못 생각하는 것은 내가 아버지께 가고 너희가 더 이상 나를 보지 못할 것이기 때문이며, 11 그들이 심판에 관하여 잘못 생각하는 것은 이 세상의 우두머리가 이미 심판을 받았기 때문이다.”

Jesus said to his disciples: 5 "Now I am going to the one who sent me, and not one of you asks me, 'Where are you going?' 6 But because I told you this, grief has filled your hearts. 7 But I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go. For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. 8 And when he comes he will convict the world in regard to sin and righteousness and condemnation: 9 sin, because they do not believe in me; 10 righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see me; 11 condemnation, because the ruler of this world has been condemned."
묵상) 예수님께서 이 세상에 오심으로써 이미 하느님의 심판이 이루어졌습니다. 예수 그리스도를 믿지 않는 그 자체가 바로 죄입니다. 이제 곧 예수님께서 아버지 하느님과 함께 머무심으로써 예수님께서는 의롭게 될 것입니다. 진리의 성령이 오시면 죄와 정의와 심판에 대해서 올바르게 밝혀 주실 것입니다.
부활하신 예수님께서 제자들에게 여러 번 나타나셨으며 하느님 나라에 관해서 거듭 말씀하셨습니다. 예수님께서 성령을 불어넣어주시고 승천하셨습니다. 제자들은 성령의 도우심으로 담대해지고 지혜로워져서 예수 그리스도의 복음을 선포했습니다. 성령의 인도로 우리도 그리스도의 복음을 선포할 것입니다.

성령께서 하시는 일
+ 요한 16,5-11
1. 나는 살면서 예수님께서 약속하셨던 진리의 성령과 그 분의 인도하심을 얼마나 믿으며 살고 있습니까? 내 안에서 나의 그릇된 생각들을 들추어내어 올바르게 해 줌으로써 나와 주님과의 관계를 회복시켜 주시는 성령의 활동을 느낍니까?
2. 내가 주님께 더 가까이 다가가지 못하는 이유가 무엇 때문이라고 생각합니까? 내 마음 안이 온갖 세상 것들로 가득 들어차서 성령을 받아들일 수 있는 공간이 없거나, 성령에 대한 나의 완고함 때문은 아닐까요?
Today’s Gospel Reflection : John 16;5-11
Before he allowed himself to be arrested, Jesus knew that his disciples were sad and fearful to be left alone. To comfort them, he told them that they would receive greater blessings when “the Advocate” (the Holy Spirit) came. After Pentecost, they would be emboldened to fulfill Christ’s mission that they baptize all nations.
Of the three persons of the Trinity, I neglect the Holy Spirit most in my prayers. I feel a stronger connection with the Incarnate Christ whom I can see represented on the cross or made present in the Eucharist. I relate to God the Father as a daughter. I struggle to feel the same deep connection with the Holy Spirit.
I tend to take for granted that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are available to me through the sacrament of confirmation. The same Holy Spirit who helped the disciples to speak truth, baptize all nations, and spread the gospel to the four corners of the earth in the face of martyrdom is equally available to us today. I am embarrassed to admit that I often forget to call upon “the Advocate” sent for all of us.
I recently learned that Satan is our accuser (Revelation 12:10). His sole purpose is to accuse us of our sin, putting us on trial, and trying to drive a wedge between ourselves and God. He wants us to believe the lie that we are hopeless wretches undeserving of God’s infinite mercy. The Holy Spirit can be translated as Counselor, Advocate, or Helper. The Holy Spirit stands alongside us, defending us as we battle through sin on our journeys toward sainthood. We need only pray, “Come, Holy Spirit!”
Personal Questions :
Am I neglecting the Holy Spirit in my prayer life? Do I believe the accuser’s lies, or do I trust in the Advocate to strengthen me against his attacks?
Prayer : Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth.
O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations, through Christ Our Lord. Amen

이탈리아 제노바(Genova)의 볼타지오(Voltaggio) 태생인 성 요한 세례자 데 로시(Joannes Baptista de Rossi)는 그 지방에서 존경받던 집안의 후손으로 10세 때에 어느 귀족 집안에 들어가서 교육을 받았다. 후원자 집에서 3년을 지낸 어느 날 그 집에 카푸친회의 두 수도자가 왔다. 그들은 그의 사람 됨됨이를 보고 그를 초청하였다. 그래서 그는 13세 때에 로마 대학교에 들어가 공부하였고 1721년에 사제로 서품되었다. 그는 학생 때부터 병원을 자주 방문하였으며 40년 동안이나 인근의 가난한 이들과 병자들을 보살폈다. 그러나 그의 음식은 보잘 것 없었고 의복도 남루하였다. 그는 또한 고해신부로도 유명했기 때문에 고백자들이 줄을 이었지만 조금도 게을리 하지 않았다. 그는 66세의 일기로 선종하였다.
