해설) 주님께서 흙의 먼지로 사람을 빚으시고 그 코에 생명의 숨을 불어넣으시니 사람이 생명체가 됩니다. 주님께서는 사람을 데려다가 에덴 동산에 두시어 그곳을 일구고 돌보게 하십니다. 그리고 주님께서 사람과 약속하십니다. ‘너는 주님께서 하지 말라고 한 것을 절대로 하지마라. 주님과의 약속을 지키지 않으면 너는 낙원에서 내쫓길 것이다.’
사람이 나무 열매를 먹은 뒤, 주 하느님께서 그를 9 부르시며, “너 어디 있느냐?” 하고 물으셨다. 10 그가 대답하였다. “동산에서 당신의 소리를 듣고 제가 알몸이기 때문에 두려워 숨었습니다.” 11 그분께서 “네가 알몸이라고 누가 일러 주더냐? 내가 너에게 따 먹지 말라고 명령한 그 나무 열매를 네가 따 먹었느냐?” 하고 물으시자, 12 사람이 대답하였다. “당신께서 저와 함께 살라고 주신 여자가 그 나무 열매를 저에게 주기에 제가 먹었습니다.” 13 주 하느님께서 여자에게 “너는 어찌하여 이런 일을 저질렀느냐?” 하고 물으시자, 여자가 대답하였다. “뱀이 저를 꾀어서 제가 따 먹었습니다.” 14 주 하느님께서 뱀에게 말씀하셨다. “네가 이런 일을 저질렀으니 너는 모든 집짐승과 들짐승 가운데에서 저주를 받아 네가 사는 동안 줄곧 배로 기어 다니며 먼지를 먹으리라. 15 나는 너와 그 여자 사이에, 네 후손과 그 여자의 후손 사이에 적개심을 일으키리니 여자의 후손은 너의 머리에 상처를 입히고 너는 그의 발꿈치에 상처를 입히리라.” 20 사람은 자기 아내의 이름을 하와라 하였다. 그가 살아 있는 모든 것의 어머니가 되었기 때문이다.

You have eaten, then, from the tree of which I had forbidden you to eat!" 12 The man replied, "The woman whom you put here with me—she gave me fruit from the tree, and so I ate it." 13 The LORD God then asked the woman, "Why did you do such a thing?"The woman answered, "The serpent tricked me into it, so I ate it." 14 Then the LORD God said to the serpent: "Because you have done this, you shall be banned from all the animals and from all the wild creatures; On your belly shall you crawl, and dirt shall you eat all the days of your life. 15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; He will strike at your head, while you strike at his heel." 20 The man called his wife Eve, because she became the mother of all the living.
묵상) 주님께서 ‘너 어디 있느냐’ 하시며 사람을 부르십니다. 그러나 그들은 주님이 두려워 숨습니다. 뱀의 유혹에 넘어간 여인은 자기와 함께 있는 남편도 주님의 명령을 어기도록 유혹하고, 그래서 그들은 주님께서 하지 말라고 명하신 그 명령을 어깁니다. 주님께서는 여인의 후손이 악의 상징인 뱀의 머리를 밟으리라고 말씀하십니다.

해설) 예수님께서 이 세상에서 아버지께로 건너가실 때가 온 것을 아시고, 최후의 만찬 때에 제자들의 발을 씻겨 주시고 나서 고별 담화를 하시고 마지막 긴 고별 기도를 하십니다. 고별 기도를 마치신 후 키드론 골짜기 건너편으로 가시자마자 붙잡히시고 수난 받으시고 십자가에 못 박히십니다.
그때에 25 예수님의 십자가 곁에는 그분의 어머니와 이모, 클로파스의 아내 마리아와 마리아 막달레나가 서 있었다. 26 예수님께서는 당신의 어머니와 그 곁에 선 사랑하시는 제자를 보시고, 어머니에게 말씀하셨다. “여인이시여, 이 사람이 어머니의 아들입니다.” 27 이어서 그 제자에게 “이분이 네 어머니시다.”하고 말씀하셨다. 그때부터 그 제자가 그분을 자기 집에 모셨다. 28 그 뒤에 이미 모든 일이 다 이루어졌음을 아신 예수님께서는 성경 말씀이 이루어지게 하시려고“목마르다.”하고 말씀하셨다. 29 거기에는 신 포도주가 가득 담긴 그릇이 놓여 있었다. 그래서 사람들이 신 포도주를 듬뿍 적신 해면을 우슬초 가지에 꽂아 예수님의 입에 갖다 대었다. 30 예수님께서는 신 포도주를 드신 다음에 말씀하셨다. “다 이루어졌다.” 이어서 고개를 숙이시며 숨을 거두셨다. 31 그날은 준비일이었고 이튿날 안식일은 큰 축일이었으므로, 유다인들은 안식일에 시신이 십자가에 매달려 있지 않게 하려고, 십자가에 못 박힌 이들의 다리를 부러뜨리고 시신을 치우게 하라고 빌라도에게 요청하였다. 32 그리하여 군사들이 가서 예수님과 함께 십자가에 못 박힌 첫째 사람과 또 다른 사람의 다리를 부러뜨렸다. 33 예수님께 가서는 이미 숨지신 것을 보고 다리를 부러뜨리는 대신, 34 군사 하나가 창으로 그분의 옆구리를 찔렀다. 그러자 곧 피와 물이 흘러나왔다.

25 Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala. 26 When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold, your son." 27 Then he said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother." And from that hour the disciple took her into his home. 28 After this, aware that everything was now finished, in order that the Scripture might be fulfilled, Jesus said, "I thirst." 29 There was a vessel filled with common wine. So they put a sponge soaked in wine on a sprig of hyssop and put it up to his mouth. 30 When Jesus had taken the wine, he said, "It is finished." And bowing his head, he handed over the spirit. 31 Now since it was preparation day, in order that the bodies might not remain on the cross on the sabbath, for the sabbath day of that week was a solemn one, the Jews asked Pilate that their legs be broken and they be taken down. 32 So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and then of the other one who was crucified with Jesus. 33 But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs, 34 but one soldier thrust his lance into his side, and immediately Blood and water flowed out.
묵상) 예수님께서는 당신의 어머니와 그 곁에 선 사랑하시는 제자를 보시고 먼저 어머니에게 ‘이 사람이 어머니의 자녀입니다’ 하시고 이어서 그 제자에게 ‘이 분이 네 어머니시다’ 하고 말씀하십니다. 그때부터 그 제자는 주님의 어머니를 자기 집으로 모십니다. 주님께서 사랑하시는 그 제자는 그리스도 교회 공동체입니다.
예수님께서 당신의 어머니 곁에 선 사랑하시는 제자에게 ‘이 분이 네 어머니시다’ 하고 말씀하십니다. 그때부터 그 제자는 주님의 어머니를 자기 집으로 모십니다. 주님께서 사랑하신 제자는 그리스도 교회입니다. 여인의 후손이 악의 상징인 뱀의 머리 밟을 것입니다. 참된 성모 신심을 가진 마리아의 참된 자녀들이 악의 세력을 짓밟을 것입니다.

십자가에 못 박히시다.
+ 요한 19,25-34
1. 성모님은 자신의 아들이 눈앞에서 못 박혀 죽는 모습을 아무런 역할도 하지 못한 채 바라보아야 했던 극한 고통을 겪으셨습니다. 하지만 성모님은 굳은 믿음으로 아들을 매단 십자가와 그 고통이 결국 아들을 다시 살려낼 것이라는 희망으로 그 고통을 참고 견뎌내셨습니다. 나는 삶 안에서 고통이 나를 짓누를 때 어떻게 합니까? 나에게 고통을 안겨준 것, 사물이나 사람에 대해 불평하거나 원망을 합니까? 아니면 성모님처럼 고통으로 다가온 나의 십자가를 보면서 이 십자가가 결국 나를 거듭나게 해줄 수 있다는 믿음으로 그 고통을 겸허하게 받아들입니까?
2. 예수님의 사랑하는 제자로써 거듭나려면 어떻게 해야 합니까? 항상 우리를 위해 예수님께 간구하시는 교회의 어머니 성모님께 필요한 은총을 청해보십시오.

Jesus dies on the cross
Our first reading for this memorial comes from the Book of Genesis and reminds us of how sin entered the world through our first parents. Because of their sin, Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden of Eden and a barrier was placed between humans and God. Mary stands in contrast to Adam and Eve and is often seen as the ‘New Eve’, as the woman who was to bring into the world the One who would restore eternal life to us.
In the alternative reading, we see the apostles and a number of others gathered with Mary in the Upper Room in Jerusalem between the Ascension and Pentecost, and quite often this scene is depicted in paintings and icons with Mary in the middle of the image surrounded by the apostles. This reminds us that Mary was still central for the fledgling group as she was the one who gave birth to the Savior and she was still a living connection to him. The group is gathered together in prayer.
In the gospel passage comes from St John we are presented with the harrowing scene on Calvary where Mary witnesses the death of her Son. Even at this moment of anguish and death, Jesus is mindful of his mother and places her in the care of one of the Twelve with the instruction that she is now his mother. That disciple represents all of us and we too are told that Mary is our mother and we look to her for comfort, guidance and support as we would the woman who gave birth to us.
Prayer "Lord Jesus Christ, by your death on the cross you have won pardon for us and freedom from the tyranny of sin and death. May I live in the joy and freedom of your victory over sin and death." - Amen

이탈리아 피렌체(Firenze)의 어느 가난한 부모 밑에서 태어난 요한 도미니치(Joannes Dominici)는 18세 때에 산타 마리아 노벨라(Santa Maria Novella) 수도원에서 도미니코 회원이 되었다. 그러나 교육이 부족하고 또 말을 더듬기 때문에 한 때 많은 반대를 받았다. 그러나 놀라운 기억력과 항구심은 자신의 모든 약점을 극복하는 약이 되었을 뿐만 아니라, 곧 놀라운 설교가와 지도자격인 신학자로서 명성을 얻게 되었다. 또한 그는 성서 주해서와 두 편의 논문을 작성했고 토착어로 된 찬미가를 지었다.
12년 동안의 파리 대학교에서의 공부를 마치자 자신의 모교에서 가르치는 한편, 베네치아(Venezia) 지방을 다니며 설교활동을 하다가 피에졸레(Fiesole)와 베네치아에 새로운 수도원을 세웠다. 그러는 동시에 이탈리아의 개혁 운동에도 크게 기여하였다. 또한 그가 수도원의 총장을 역임할 때에는 청소년들의 그리스도교 교육에도 지대한 관심을 보였고, 1406년에는 교황 그레고리우스 12세(Gregorius XII)를 선출하는 회의에 참석한 이래 교황의 고해신부 겸 고문이 되었다. 1407년 산 시스토(San Sisto)의 추기경으로 임명된 그는 당대의 큰 이단들을 예방하는데 크게 기여하였다. 그에 대한 공경은 1832년에 승인되었고, 이어 1837년 교황 그레고리우스 16세(Gregorius XVI)에 의해 복자품에 올랐다.
