Friday of the Third Week in Ordinary Time

< 많은 싸움을 견디어 냈으니 확신을 버리지 마십시오.>
해설) 세례를 받고 하느님의 자녀가 된 사람은 누구나 그리스도 안에서 삽니다. 누구든지 그리스도를 만나면 새 사람이 됩니다. 예수 그리스도 안에서 새롭게 된 사람은 많은 유혹과 고통과 어려움에 부딪혀도 믿음과 용기를 잃지 않습니다. 끝까지 믿음을 지킨 사람은 하느님으로부터 참 생명을 얻고 영광스럽게 될 것입니다.
형제 여러분, 32 예전에 여러분이 빛을 받은 뒤에 많은 고난의 싸움을 견디어 낸 때를 기억해 보십시오. 33 어떤 때에는 공공연히 모욕과 환난을 당하기도 하고, 어떤 때에는 그러한 처지에 빠진 이들에게 동무가 되어 주기도 하였습니다. 34 여러분은 또한 감옥에 갇힌 이들과 고통을 함께 나누었고, 재산을 빼앗기는 일도 기쁘게 받아들였습니다. 그보다 더 좋고 또 길이 남는 재산을 가지고 있다는 것을 알고 있었기 때문입니다. 35 그러니 여러분의 그 확신을 버리지 마십시오. 그것은 큰 상을 가져다줍니다. 36 여러분이 하느님의 뜻을 이루어 약속된 것을 얻으려면 인내가 필요합니다. 37 “조금만 더 있으면 올 이가 오리라. 지체하지 않으리라. 38 나의 의인은 믿음으로 살리라. 그러나 뒤로 물러서는 자는 내 마음이 기꺼워하지 않는다.” 39 우리는 뒤로 물러나 멸망할 사람이 아니라, 믿어서 생명을 얻을 사람입니다.

32 Remember the days past when, after you had been enlightened, you endured a great contest of suffering. 33 At times you were publicly exposed to abuse and affliction; at other times you associated yourselves with those so treated. 34 You even joined in the sufferings of those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, knowing that you had a better and lasting possession. 35 Therefore, do not throw away your confidence; it will have great recompense. 36 You need endurance to do the will of God and receive what he has promised. 37 “For, after just a brief moment, he who is to come shall come; he shall not delay. 38 But my just one shall live by faith, and if he draws back I take no pleasure in him.” 39 We are not among those who draw back and perish, but among those who have faith and will possess life.
묵상) 하느님의 성령을 모독한 자들과 예수님을 배척하고 거역했던 자들은 종말 심판 때에 마땅한 벌을 받을 것입니다. 진정 하느님의 뜻을 행하고 하느님의 은총과 축복을 받으려면 참 믿음이 필요합니다. 그리스도를 따르는 올바른 사람은 인내와 믿음으로 삽니다. 믿음 안에 사는 사람은 영원한 생명을 얻을 것입니다.

< 씨를 뿌리고 자는 사이에 씨는 자라는데, 그 사람은 모른다. >
해설) 전능하신 하느님의 능력이 예수님의 말씀과 행적으로 드러나기 시작합니다. 처음에는 작은 씨앗과 같아 사람들의 눈에 잘 뜨이지 않지만 점차 그 위력이 강력히 작용하여 마침내 종말에는 엄청난 결과를 드러낼 것입니다. 하느님께서 친히 하시는 일이라 사람들의 눈에는 놀랍게만 보일 것입니다.
그때에 예수님께서 군중에게 26 말씀하셨다. “하느님의 나라는 이와 같다. 어떤 사람이 땅에 씨를 뿌려 놓으면, 27 밤에 자고 낮에 일어나고 하는 사이에 씨는 싹이 터서 자라는데, 그 사람은 어떻게 그리되는지 모른다. 28 땅이 저절로 열매를 맺게 하는데, 처음에는 줄기가, 다음에는 이삭이 나오고 그다음에는 이삭에 낟알이 영근다. 29 곡식이 익으면 그 사람은 곧 낫을 댄다. 수확 때가 되었기 때문이다.” 30 예수님께서 다시 말씀하셨다. “하느님의 나라를 무엇에 비길까? 무슨 비유로 그것을 나타낼까? 31 하느님의 나라는 겨자씨와 같다. 땅에 뿌릴 때에는 세상의 어떤 씨앗보다도 작다. 32 그러나 땅에 뿌려지면 자라나서 어떤 풀보다도 커지고 큰 가지들을 뻗어, 하늘의 새들이 그 그늘에 깃들일 수 있게 된다.” 33 예수님께서는 그들이 알아들을 수 있을 정도로 이처럼 많은 비유로 말씀을 하셨다. 34 비유를 들지 않고는 그들에게 말씀하지 않으셨다. 그러나 당신의 제자들에게는 따로 모든 것을 풀이해 주셨다.

26 He said, “This is how it is with the kingdom of God; it is as if a man were to scatter seed on the land 27 and would sleep and rise night and day and the seed would sprout and grow, he knows not how. 28 Of its own accord the land yields fruit, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. 29 And when the grain is ripe, he wields the sickle at once, for the harvest has come.” 30 He said, “To what shall we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable can we use for it? 31 It is like a mustard seed that, when it is sown in the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on the earth. 32 But once it is sown, it springs up and becomes the largest of plants and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the sky can dwell in its shade.” 33 With many such parables he spoke the word to them as they were able to understand it. 34 Without parables he did not speak to them, but to his own disciples he explained everything in private.
묵상) 씨앗의 성장은 조용하고 느리지만 소리 소문 없이 확실하게 진행됩니다. 인간의 눈으로 볼 때 보잘 것 없어 보이지만 사실 보이지 않게 자라고 있습니다. 주님의 통치는 미미하지만 이미 시작되었고 점점 강력히 영향을 떨칠 것이며 마침내 종말에는 엄청난 결과를 가져올 것입니다. 우리 안에 심어지는 주님의 씨앗도 이와 같을 것입니다.
씨는 사람이 뿌리지만 자라게 하시는 분은 주님입니다. 주님께서는 작은 씨앗 안에 많은 열매를 넣어두십니다. 우리 안에 심어진 믿음의 씨앗은 자라서 진리와 사랑과 희망의 많은 열매를 맺으며 진정 주님을 찬미할 것입니다. 우리는 단지 예수님을 믿는다고 고백했을 뿐인데 주님은 우리에게 영원한 생명을 주십니다.

저절로 자라는 씨앗과 겨자씨의 비유
+ 마르코 4, 26-34
1. 저절로 자라나는 씨앗의 의미는 무엇입니까? 하느님께서 모든 것을 다 알아서 하신다는 뜻일까요? 씨앗의 싹이 트고 자라서 열매 맺게 하는 것은 하느님이 하시는 일이지만, 그보다 먼저, 씨 뿌리고 돌보는 일이 내가 해야 할 일이 아닐까요? 그리고 이 일을 마쳤다면 나머지 열매 맺는 일은 하느님께서 하시도록 맡겨드려야 하지 않을까요?
2. 작고 보잘것없는 것도 다 쓰임새에 따라 하느님 안에서 큰 열매를 맺을 수 있습니다. 작은 겨자씨 같은 믿음도 하느님께 온전히 의탁하는 삶을 살 때 큰 믿음으로 자라납니다. 하느님께서는 내 마음 안에 어떤 씨앗을 심어 놓으셨습니까? 나의 삶이 하느님과 함께할 때 나의 믿음도 자라나는 것을 느낍니까? 과거와 비교해 나의 믿음은 얼마나 성장했습니까? 나는 풍성한 영적 열매를 맺기 위해 어떻게 살고 있습니까?

Parable of the mustard seed
First reading of Hebrews on enduring faith. Spend your time, your money, and your very life as if God’s promises in the gospel are true. Remember how God worked in your life in the past, when you first came to faith in Christ. Live in that same way now, because you know that in Christ you have a better and lasting possession than you ever had on earth. Focus on doing God’s will in the present, especially when trials tempt you to compromise. Look to God’s promises for the future. Live with enduring faith in God and He will sustain you through every trial.
Our Gospel for today is about Jesus's parable of mustard see. What can mustard seeds teach us about the kingdom of God? The tiny mustard seed literally grew to be a tree which attracted numerous birds because they loved the little black mustard seed it produced. God's kingdom works in a similar fashion. It starts from the smallest beginnings in the hearts of men and women who are receptive to God's word. And it works unseen and causes a transformation from within. Just as a seed has no power to change itself until it is planted in the ground, so we cannot change our lives to be like God until God gives us the power of his Holy Spirit. The Lord of the Universe is ever ready to transform us by the power of his Spirit. Are you ready to let God change you by his grace and power? The kingdom of God produces a transformation in those who receive the new life which Jesus Christ offers. When we yield to Jesus Christ, our lives are transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit who dwells in us. Paul the Apostle says, "we have this treasure in earthen vessels, to show that the transcendent power belongs to God and not to us" (2 Cor. 4:7). Do you believe in the transforming power of the Holy Spirit?.
Prayer :
"Lord, fill me with your Holy Spirit and transform me into the Christ-like holiness you desire. Increase my zeal for your kingdom and instill in me a holy desire to live for your greater glory." Amen.
성녀 브리지다 (Saint Brigid)

아일랜드 동북부 라우스(Louth) 지방 던독(Dundalk) 근교인 포가트(Faughart)에서 태어난 성녀 브리지다(Brigida)의 양친은 성 파트리키우스(Patricius, 3월 17일)로부터 직접 세례를 받았으며 아주 가깝게 지냈던 것 같다. 전설에 의하면 그녀의 부친은 덥타크(Dubtach)로 렌스터(Leinster)의 아일랜드계 왕이었고, 그녀의 모친 브로카(Brocca)는 그리스도인으로 덥타크의 궁중 시녀였다고 한다.
그러나 성녀 브리지다는 아주 어릴 적부터 수도생활에 큰 흥미를 느꼈고, 성 마카일(Macaille)로부터 크로건(Croghan)에서 수도복을 받았고, 아르다그(Ardagh)의 주교 성 멜(Mel, 2월 6일)에 의하여 서원을 발하였다. 그녀는 얼마동안 크로건의 언덕 밑에서 7명의 동정녀들과 정착한 바가 있으나, 468년경에 성 멜을 따라 미스(Meath)로 갔다. 470년경에 그녀는 킬데어에 수도원을 세웠고, 아일랜드의 첫 번째 수녀원인 이곳의 원장이 되었다. 이 수도원은 학문과 영성의 중심지로 발전해 나갔고, 킬데어의 주요 도시로 발전하게 하였다. 그녀는 킬데어에 예술학교를 세웠으며, 킬데어의 책으로 알려진 유명한 원고들을 남겼다.
성녀 브리지다는 당대의 가장 유력한 여성 지도자였음에 틀림없다. 게일인(人, Gael) 마리아(Maria)라고도 불리는 성녀 브리지다는 성 콜룸바(Columba, 6월 9일)와 성 파트리키우스(Patricius)와 함께 다운패트릭(Downpatrick)에 묻혀 있으며, 그들과 함께 아일랜드의 수호성인으로 공경을 받고 있다. 성녀 브리지다는 브리드(Bride) 혹은 브리젯(Bridget)으로도 불린다.
