Saturday of the Fifth Week of Lent
+ 에제키엘 37,21ㄴ-28
< 그들을 한 민족으로 만들겠다.>
해설) 하느님의 백성은 세상 사람들에게 하느님을 알리는 도구가 되도록 부르심을 받은 것입니다. 하느님의 백성은 하느님 계시의 도구입니다. 하느님 백성을 통해서 당신의 거룩하심이 드러나고, 진정 주님의 영광은 당신 백성을 통해 드러납니다. 하느님의 백성은 세상 가운데서 하느님의 이름을 빛나게 해야 합니다.
21 주 하느님이 이렇게 말한다. 나 이제 이스라엘 자손들이 떠나가 사는 민족들 사이에서 그들을 데려오고, 그들을 사방에서 모아다가, 그들의 땅으로 데려가겠다. 22 그들을 그 땅에서, 이스라엘의 산악 지방에서 한 민족으로 만들고, 한 임금이 그들 모두의 임금이 되게 하겠다. 그리하여 다시는 두 민족이 되지 않고, 다시는 결코 두 왕국으로 갈라지지 않을 것이다. 23 그리고 그들이 다시는 자기들의 우상들과 혐오스러운 것들과 온갖 죄악으로 자신을 부정하게 만들지도 않을 것이다. 그들이 저지른 모든 배신에서 내가 그들을 구원하여 정결하게 해 주고 나면, 그들은 나의 백성이 되고 나는 그들의 하느님이 될 것이다. 24 나의 종 다윗이 그들을 다스리는 임금으로서, 그들 모두를 위한 유일한 목자가 될 것이다. 그들은 내 법규들을 따르고 내 규정들을 준수하여 지키면서, 25 내가 나의 종 야곱에게 준 땅, 너희 조상들이 살던 땅에서 살게 될 것이다. 그들만이 아니라 자자손손이 영원히 그곳에서 살며, 나의 종 다윗이 영원히 그들의 제후가 될 것이다. 26 나는 그들과 평화의 계약을 맺으리니, 그것이 그들과 맺는 영원한 계약이 될 것이다. 나는 그들에게 복을 내리고 그들을 불어나게 하며, 나의 성전을 영원히 그들 가운데에 두겠다. 27 이렇게 나의 거처가 그들 사이에 있으면서, 나는 그들의 하느님이 되고 그들은 나의 백성이 될 것이다. 28 나의 성전이 그들 한가운데에 영원히 있게 되면, 그제야 민족들은 내가 주님임을 알게 될 것이다.

21 Thus says the Lord GOD: I will take the children of Israel from among the nations to which they have come, and gather them from all sides to bring them back to their land. 22 I will make them one nation upon the land, in the mountains of Israel, and there shall be one prince for them all. Never again shall they be two nations, and never again shall they be divided into two kingdoms. 23 No longer shall they defile themselves with their idols, their abominations, and all their transgressions. I will deliver them from all their sins of apostasy, and cleanse them so that they may be my people and I may be their God. 24 My servant David shall be prince over them, and there shall be one shepherd for them all; they shall live by my statutes and carefully observe my decrees. 25 They shall live on the land that I gave to my servant Jacob, the land where their fathers lived; they shall live on it forever, they, and their children, and their children's children, with my servant David their prince forever. 26 I will make with them a covenant of peace; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them,and I will multiply them, and put my sanctuary among them forever. 27 My dwelling shall be with them; I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 28 Thus the nations shall know that it is I, the LORD, who make Israel holy, when my sanctuary shall be set up among them forever.
묵상) 하느님께서는 당신의 약속이 아니라 당신 본성 때문에 하느님 백성을 구원하지 않을 수 없습니다. 하느님께서 당신의 백성을 유배지에서 구하시려는 것은 그들의 회개 때문이 아니라, 당신 본성에 충실하고 당신이 참 주님이심을 드러내기 위해서입니다. 그리하여 주님께서는 온 세상에 당신의 거룩함을 알리는 것입니다.

< 예수님께서 흩어져 있는 하느님의 자녀들을 하나로 모으시리라. >
해설) 수석 사제들과 바리사이들은 예수님의 많은 표징들 앞에서 어찌할 바를 모릅니다. 예수님의 활동을 저지하지 않으면 해방 운동이 일어날 것이고, 그러면 로마 군인들이 와서 성전을 파괴하고 유다 민족을 다시 지배하게 될 것이라고 생각합니다. 유다 지도자들은 예수님을 종교적으로도 정치적으로도 위험한 인물로 여긴 것입니다.
그때에 45 마리아에게 갔다가 예수님께서 하신 일을 본 유다인들 가운데에서 많은 사람이 예수님을 믿게 되었다. 46 그러나 그들 가운데 몇 사람은 바리사이들에게 가서, 예수님께서 하신 일을 알렸다. 47 그리하여 수석 사제들과 바리사이들이 의회를 소집하고 이렇게 말하였다. “저 사람이 저렇게 많은 표징을 일으키고 있으니, 우리가 어떻게 하면 좋겠소? 48 저자를 그대로 내버려 두면 모두 그를 믿을 것이고, 또 로마인들이 와서 우리의 이 거룩한 곳과 우리 민족을 짓밟고 말 것이오.” 49 그들 가운데 한 사람으로서 그해의 대사제인 카야파가 말하였다. “여러분은 아무것도 모르는군요. 50 온 민족이 멸망하는 것보다 한 사람이 백성을 위하여 죽는 것이 여러분에게 더 낫다는 사실을 여러분은 헤아리지 못하고 있소.” 51 이 말은 카야파가 자기 생각으로 한 것이 아니라, 그해의 대사제로서 예언한 셈이다. 곧 예수님께서 민족을 위하여 돌아가시리라는 것과, 52 이 민족만이 아니라 흩어져 있는 하느님의 자녀들을 하나로 모으시려고 돌아가시리라는 것이다. 53 이렇게 하여 그날 그들은 예수님을 죽이기로 결의하였다. 54 그래서 예수님께서는 더 이상 유다인들 가운데로 드러나게 다니지 않으시고, 그곳을 떠나 광야에 가까운 고장의 에프라임이라는 고을에 가시어, 제자들과 함께 그곳에 머무르셨다. 55 유다인들의 파스카 축제가 가까워지자, 많은 사람이 자신을 정결하게 하려고 파스카 축제 전에 시골에서 예루살렘으로 올라갔다. 56 그들은 예수님을 찾다가 성전 안에 모여 서서 서로 말하였다.“여러분은 어떻게 생각하시오? 그가 축제를 지내러 오지 않겠소?”

45 Many of the Jews who had come to Mary and seen what Jesus had done began to believe in him. 46 But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. 47 So the chief priests and the Pharisees convened the Sanhedrin and said, "What are we going to do? This man is performing many signs. 48 If we leave him alone, all will believe in him, and the Romans will comeand take away both our land and our nation. 49 "But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, "You know nothing, 50 nor do you consider that it is better for you that one man should die instead of the people, so that the whole nation may not perish." 51 He did not say this on his own, but since he was high priest for that year, he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation, 52 and not only for the nation, but also to gather into one the dispersed children of God. 53 So from that day on they planned to kill him. 54 So Jesus no longer walked about in public among the Jews, but he left for the region near the desert, to a town called Ephraim, and there he remained with his disciples. 55 Now the Passover of the Jews was near, and many went up from the country to Jerusalem before Passover to purify themselves. 56 They looked for Jesus and said to one another as they were in the temple area, "What do you think? That he will not come to the feast?"
묵상) 예수 그리스도께서는 하느님의 계획에 따라 인류를 구원하기 위해 죽으실 것입니다. 예수님의 죽음이 구원적인 의미를 지니게 된 것은 세상에 참 생명을 주기 때문입니다. 예수님의 죽음으로 인해 '하느님의 새로운 백성'이 형성될 것입니다. 이 새로운 백성은 그리스도를 믿고 따르도록 선택된 주님의 사람들입니다.
예수님께서 일으키신 많은 표징으로 사람들은 예수님이 하느님으로부터 오신 분이심을 알게 됩니다. 그럼에도 유다인들은 완고한 마음으로 예수님을 십자가에 매답니다. 예수님께서 돌아가신 것은 흩어져 있는 하느님의 자녀들을 하나로 모으시려는 하느님의 뜻입니다. 우리의 좋고 나쁜 모든 사건들 안에 주님의 뜻이 있습니다.

최고 의회가 에수님을 죽이기로 결의하다.
+ 요한 11, 45-56
1. 바리사이들은 왜 예수님을 죽이기로 결정합니까? 자신들의 이익을 위해 진리를 외면하는 바리사이들의 완고한 모습과 현재를 살고 있는 우리들의 모습과 비교하여 보십시오. 우리도 살면서 자신의 이익을 위해 진실이나 사회 정의를 외면한 적은 없었습니까?
2. 우리는 비록 예수님의 표징을 눈으로 직접 목격하지 못하였으나 복음서를 통해서 예수님께서 행하신 모든 일의 증인으로 살고 있습니다. 나는 나의 자리에서 어떤 믿음으로 믿지 않는 사람들에게 주님의 복음을 선포하고 증언하며 살고 있습니까?

1st Reading : Ezekiel 37:21-28
Gospel : John 11:45-56
They took counsel how to put Jesus to death
In our first reading we see the prophet Ezekiel looking forward to a day when the Lord will unite the people under a new leader as a redeemed nation.
In the gospel, we see the Pharisees taking the decision to kill Jesus. They did so in order to save their people because they feared that Jesus’ talk of a supreme power and authority would cause a revolt which the Romans would crush as ruthlessly as the previous ones. While their motives may have been honorable it was they who were misguided because they had closed their minds to the word of God and believed the Messiah to be a political and military leader. The words of Caiaphas also suggest that the death of Jesus might unite the people – an echo of the first reading. They never thought that the Messiah would free them in spirit which is a far greater thing. If we truly open our hearts to God then the unity which the gospel speaks of will take place as the kingdom takes shape in our world.
Prayer :
"Lord, may we your disciples be ever ready to lay down our lives in conformity to your will, to willingly suffer and die for you, that we may also share in your victory and glory." - Amen.

이탈리아의 피렌체(Firenze)에서 알베르티(Alberti) 가문의 딸로 태어난 베르타는 고향에 있는 성녀 펠리치타(Felicitas)의 발롬브로사(Vallombrosa) 수녀원에서 수도생활을 시작하였다. 그곳의 책임을 맡은 복자 쿠알도 갈리(Qualdo Galli)는 함께 일하던 베르타를 카브리글리아의 수녀원장으로 파견하였다. 그래서 그녀는 10년 동안, 부활 대축일에 선종하기 전까지 피렌체 근교 피에졸레(Fiesole)에 있는 카브리글리아의 성모 마리아 수녀원을 개혁하고 운영하는데 전념하였다.
