Saturday of the Fourth Week of Lent
+ 예레미야 11, 18-20
< 저는 도살장으로 끌려가는 순한 어린양 같았습니다. >
해설) 예레미야가 주님의 말씀을 전하자 지도자들과 백성들은 그를 죽이려 합니다. 예레미야는 죽을 자리에 끌려가는 어린양과 같은 자기의 신세를 주님께 호소합니다. 자기를 죽이려고 음모를 꾸미는 자들에 대해 무방비 상태에 있는 예레미야는 자신에게 일어나고 있는 일에 대해 주님께 하소연합니다.
18 주님께서 저에게 알려 주시어 제가 알아차리게 되었습니다. 당신께서 저에게 그들의 악행을 보여 주셨습니다. 19 그런데도 저는 도살장으로 끌려가는 순한 어린양 같았습니다. 저는 그들이 저를 없애려고 음모를 꾸미는 줄 알아차리지 못했습니다. “저 나무를 열매째 베어 버리자. 그를 산 이들의 땅에서 없애 버려 아무도 그의 이름을 다시는 기억하지 못하게 하자.” 20 그러나 정의롭게 판단하시고 마음과 속을 떠보시는 만군의 주님 당신께 제 송사를 맡겨 드렸으니 당신께서 저들에게 복수하시는 것을 보게 해 주소서.

18 I knew their plot because the LORD informed me; at that time you, O LORD, showed me their doings. 19 Yet I, like a trusting lamb led to slaughter, had not realized that they were hatching plots against me: "Let us destroy the tree in its vigor; let us cut him off from the land of the living, so that his name will be spoken no more." 20 But, you, O LORD of hosts, O just Judge,searcher of mind and heart, Let me witness the vengeance you take on them, for to you I have entrusted my cause!
묵상) 예레미야 예언자는 주님의 사람으로서 주님 뜻에 순명하여 주님의 말씀을 전합니다. 그러나 주님 안에서 많은 고통을 당합니다. 주님께서는 의인을 사랑이시기 때문에 의인에게 고통을 주실 것입니다. 우리가 미처 알지 못하는 그 사랑 때문에 주님께서는 그 고통을 허락하실 것입니다.
+ 요한 7, 40-53
< 메시아가 갈릴래아에서 나올 리가 없지 않은가? >
해설) 예수님께서는 생명의 원천이시며 모두 생명의 물을 마시도록 초대하십니다. 이 초대는 구원으로의 부르심이며 구원의 약속입니다. 예수님의 부르심에 응답한 이들은 예수님을 구원자로 받아들인 사람들입니다. 그러나 대부분의 유다인들은 예수님이 갈릴래아 출신이라고 그분을 메시아로 인정하지 않습니다.
그때에 예수님의 40 말씀을 들은 군중 가운데 어떤 이들은,“저분은 참으로 그 예언자시다.”하고, 41 어떤 이들은“저분은 메시아시다.”하였다. 그러나 이렇게 말하는 이들도 있었다. “메시아가 갈릴래아에서 나올 리가 없지 않은가? 42 성경에 메시아는 다윗의 후손 가운데에서, 그리고 다윗이 살았던 베들레헴에서 나온다고 하지 않았는가?” 43 이렇게 군중 가운데에서 예수님 때문에 논란이 일어났다. 44 그들 가운데 몇몇은 예수님을 잡으려고 하였지만, 그분께 손을 대는 자는 아무도 없었다. 45 성전 경비병들이 돌아오자 수석 사제들과 바리사이들이, “왜 그 사람을 끌고 오지 않았느냐?”하고 그들에게 물었다. 46 “그분처럼 말하는 사람은 지금까지 하나도 없었습니다.”하고 성전 경비병들이 대답하자, 47 바리사이들이 그들에게 말하였다. “너희도 속은 것이 아니냐? 48 최고 의회 의원들이나 바리사이들 가운데에서 누가 그를 믿더냐? 49 율법을 모르는 저 군중은 저주받은 자들이다.” 50 그들 가운데 한 사람으로 전에 예수님을 찾아왔던 니코데모가 그들에게 말하였다. 51 “우리 율법에는 먼저 본인의 말을 들어 보고 또 그가 하는 일을 알아보고 난 뒤에야, 그 사람을 심판하게 되어 있지 않습니까?” 52 그러자 그들이 니코데모에게 대답하였다. “당신도 갈릴래아 출신이라는 말이오? 성경을 연구해 보시오. 갈릴래아에서는 예언자가 나지 않소.” 53 그들은 저마다 집으로 돌아갔다.

40 Some in the crowd who heard these words of Jesus said, "This is truly the Prophet." 41 Others said, "This is the Christ." But others said, "The Christ will not come from Galilee, will he? 42 Does not Scripture say that the Christ will be of David's family and come from Bethlehem, the village where David lived?" 43 So a division occurred in the crowd because of him. 44 Some of them even wanted to arrest him, but no one laid hands on him. 45 So the guards went to the chief priests and Pharisees, who asked them, "Why did you not bring him?" 46 The guards answered, "Never before has anyone spoken like this man." 47 So the Pharisees answered them, "Have you also been deceived? 48 Have any of the authorities or the Pharisees believed in him? 49 But this crowd, which does not know the law, is accursed." 50 Nicodemus, one of their members who had come to him earlier, said to them, 51 "Does our law condemn a man before it first hears him and finds out what he is doing?" 52 They answered and said to him, "You are not from Galilee also, are you? Look and see that no prophet arises from Galilee." 53 Then each went to his own house.
묵상) 예수님의 인격과 권위 있는 가르침에 성전 경비병들도 놀랍니다. 경비병들은 예수님의 위엄에 압도되어 예수님을 잡아올 수가 없습니다. 예수님을 만난 사람은 누구든지 예수님의 참된 인격에 매료되어 변화됩니다. 누구든지 그리스도를 만나면 새롭게 변화됩니다. 누구든지 그리스도를 믿으면 새사람이 됩니다.
최고 의회 의원이나 바리사이들은 구약에 대한 많은 지식은 있으나 선입견과 편견으로 예수님을 알아보지 못합니다. 성전 경비병과 니코데모와 같이 예수님을 직접 만난 사람들은 예수님을 알아차립니다. 아무리 많은 지식이 있다 하여도 예수님을 모르는 사람은 사실 아무것도 모르는 사람입니다.

1. 수석 사제들과 바리사이들은 왜 예수님을 속단하고 메시아로 인정하지 못합니까? 성전 경비병들은 예수님을 잡으러 갔다가 무엇을 보고 들었기에 빈손으로 돌아왔습니까? 율법을 잘 안다는 수석 사제들과 바리사이들이 범한 오류는 무엇입니까? 왜 그들은 니코데모의 말에 반박합니까?
2. 나도 사람을 보고 판단할 때 고정관념이나 편견에 사로잡혀 실수한 적은 없었습니까? 나의 잣대를 다른 사람에게 종종 들이대지는 않았습니까? 나는 어떤 것을 보고, 듣고, 또 믿습니까? 혹시 내 마음에 들거나 내가 좋아하는 것만을 골라서 보고 듣고 믿지는 않습니까? 다른 사람을 편견 없이 있는 그대로 바라보기위해 내게 필요한 것은 무엇입니까?

Saturday of the Fourth Week of Lent
Jeremiah 11:18-20 / John 7:40-53
In the first reading, the prophet Jeremiah tells much concerning himself, the times he lived in being very troublesome. Those of his own city plotted how they might cause his death. They thought to end his days, but he outlived most of his enemies; they thought to blast his memory, but it lives to this day, and will be blessed while time lasts. God knows all the secret designs of his and his people's enemies, and can, when he pleases, make them known. God's justice is a terror to the wicked, but a comfort to the godly. When we are wronged, we have a God to commit our cause to, and it is our duty to commit it to him. We should also look well to our own spirits, that we are not overcome with evil, but that by patient continuance in praying for our enemies, and in kindness to them, we may overcome evil with good.
We are continue reading on gospel of John chapter 7. Are you willing to give yourself totally to the Lord Jesus? No one could be indifferent for long when confronted with Jesus' message. It caused division for many who heard it. Some believe he was a prophet, some the Messiah, and some believed he was neither. The reaction of the officers was bewildered amazement. They went to arrest him and returned empty-handed because they never heard anyone speak as he did. The reaction of the chief priests and Pharisees was contempt. The reaction of Nicodemus was one of timidity. His heart told him to defend Jesus, but his head told him not to take the risk. There often will come a time when we have to take a stand for Christ and for the gospel. To stand for Jesus may provoke mockery or unpopularity. It may even entail hardship, sacrifice, or suffering. Are you ready to stand for Jesus and to defend the cause of the gospel?.
Prayer :
"Lord, your gospel brings joy and freedom. May I be loyal to you always, even though it produce a cross on earth, that I may share in your crown in eternity." - Amen.

복자 페핀(Pepin, 2월 21일)과 성녀 이다(Ida, 5월 8일)의 딸로 태어난 성녀 제르트루다(Gertrudis)는 란덴(Landen)에서 태어났다. 그녀는 어릴 때부터 부모들의 경건한 생활을 본받았으므로 스스로 수도생활에 헌신하고자 노력하였다. 639년 복자 페핀이 사망하자 성녀 이다는 니벨레스에 수도원을 세우고 딸과 함께 입회하였는데, 딸인 성녀 제르트루다가 수녀원장이 되었다. 656년에 원장직을 사임한 그녀는 성서 연구와 고행하는데 몰두하였다. 환시의 은혜를 받은 것이 특기할 만하다. 성녀 제르트루다는 여행자와 정원사의 수호성인이다.
