Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica in Rome

라테라노 대성전 / Basilica of St John Lateran

로마의 4대 성전의 하나로 세계에서 가장 오래된 교회 건물입니다. 황제 콘스탄티누스가 교황 성 멜키아데스에게 라테란 궁전을 기증할 때 함께 세워 준 성당으로 324년 교황 성 실베스테르 1세에 의해 예수 그리스도께 봉헌되어 그리스도교의 으뜸 교회가 되었습니다. 최근에는 요한 대성당이라고도 불리며, 1309년 교황이 아비뇽으로 옮겨갈 때까지 모든 교황이 이곳에서 대관식과 착좌식을 했고 이곳에 묻혔습니다. 1123, 1139, 1179, 1215년 4회에 걸쳐 공의회가 개최되었습니다. 중앙의 대제단에는 카타콤바에서 옮겨 온 많은 유물들이 보관되어 있고, 최후의 만찬에서 사용된 것으로 전해지는 삼나무 탁자가 보존되어 있습니다.

The Church commonly known as the Basilica of St John Lateran, in the city of Rome, is actually dedicated to the Most Holy Savior and St John the Baptist and St John the Evangelist and was first dedicated in 324AD. It derives its importance from the fact that it is the ‘Most Holy Lateran Church, of all the churches in the city and the world, the mother and head’ (Sacrosancta Lateranensis ecclesia omnium urbis et orbis ecclesiarum mater et caput – from an inscription on the front wall of the church). This basilica is also the Cathedral Church of the Bishop of Rome and Primate of Italy, and who is more commonly referred to as the Pope (St Peter’s in the Vatican is a basilica but not a Cathedral Church). In celebrating its dedication we celebrate the dedication of our own local churches also for they are all joined together.

해설) 성전 오른 편에서 생명의 샘물이 솟아나오고 그것이 다시 풍부한 강물이 되어 흘러갑니다. 이 강물이 흘러가는 곳은 어디에나 생명이 넘치며, 이 강이 흘러가는 곳은 온갖 생물들로 풍요롭습니다. 이 물은 거룩한 성전에서 흘러나오기 때문에 매달 새 과일이 나와 열매가 끊이지 않습니다. 주님의 생명수는 어디에나 생명을 줍니다.

그 무렵 천사가 1 나를 데리고 주님의 집 어귀로 돌아갔다. 이 주님의 집 정면은 동쪽으로 나 있었는데, 주님의 집 문지방 밑에서 물이 솟아 동쪽으로 흐르고 있었다. 그 물은 주님의 집 오른쪽 밑에서, 제단 남쪽으로 흘러내려 갔다. 2 그는 또 나를 데리고 북쪽 대문으로 나가서, 밖을 돌아 동쪽 대문 밖으로 데려갔다. 거기에서 보니 물이 오른쪽에서 나오고 있었다. 8 그가 나에게 말하였다. “이 물은 동쪽 지역으로 나가, 아라바로 내려가서 바다로 들어간다. 이 물이 바다로 흘러들어 가면, 그 바닷물이 되살아난다. 9 그래서 이 강이 흘러가는 곳마다 온갖 생물이 우글거리며 살아난다. 이 물이 닿는 곳마다 바닷물이 되살아나기 때문에, 고기도 아주 많이 생겨난다. 이렇게 이 강이 닿는 곳마다 모든 것이 살아난다. 12 이 강가 이쪽저쪽에는 온갖 과일나무가 자라는데, 잎도 시들지 않으며 과일도 끊이지 않고 다달이 새 과일을 내놓는다. 이 물이 성전에서 나오기 때문이다. 그 과일은 양식이 되고 잎은 약이 된다.”

1 The angel brought me back to the entrance of the temple, and I saw water flowing outfrom beneath the threshold of the temple toward the east, for the façade of the temple was toward the east; the water flowed down from the southern side of the temple, south of the altar. 2 He led me outside by the north gate, and around to the outer gate facing the east, where I saw water trickling from the southern side. 8 He said to me, "This water flows into the eastern district down upon the Arabah, and empties into the sea, the salt waters, which it makes fresh. 9 Wherever the river flows, every sort of living creature that can multiply shall live, and there shall be abundant fish, for wherever this water comes the sea shall be made fresh. 12 Along both banks of the river, fruit trees of every kind shall grow; their leaves shall not fade, nor their fruit fail. Every month they shall bear fresh fruit, for they shall be watered by the flow from the sanctuary. Their fruit shall serve for food, and their leaves for medicine."

묵상) 주님의 영광이 백성들과 성전 가운데에 드러나고 그것은 풍부한 강물과도 같이 모든 생물들을 살게 합니다. 주님은 모든 것을 풍요롭게 하시며 모든 생물에게 생명을 줍니다. 주님의 성전에서 흘러나온 성령은 참 생명을 줍니다. 예수님만이 참 성전이십니다. 성전 한가운데에 주 하느님이 계시기 때문입니다.

+ 요한 2, 13-22

< 예수님께서 성전이라고 하신 것은 당신 몸을 두고 하신 말씀이었다. >

해설) 성전은 하느님께서 머무시는 곳입니다. 성전에서 하느님을 만나고, 성전에서 하느님을 찬미하고 하느님께 예배를 드립니다. 성전에서 하느님과 대화하고 하느님의 위로를 받습니다. 성전에서 주 하느님과 하나 되어 일치합니다. 예수 그리스도 안에 하느님이 머물러 계십니다. 그래서 예수 그리스도의 몸이 곧 하느님 성전입니다.

13 유다인들의 파스카 축제가 가까워지자 예수님께서는 예루살렘에 올라가셨다. 14 그리고 성전에 소와 양과 비둘기를 파는 자들과 환전꾼들이 앉아 있는 것을 보시고, 15 끈으로 채찍을 만드시어 양과 소와 함께 그들을 모두 성전에서 쫓아내셨다. 또 환전상들의 돈을 쏟아 버리시고 탁자들을 엎어 버리셨다. 16 비둘기를 파는 자들에게는, “이것들을 여기에서 치워라. 내 아버지의 집을 장사하는 집으로 만들지 마라.” 하고 이르셨다. 17 그러자 제자들은 “당신 집에 대한 열정이 저를 집어삼킬 것입니다.”라고 성경에 기록된 말씀이 생각났다. 18 그때에 유다인들이 예수님께, “당신이 이런 일을 해도 된다는 무슨 표징을 보여 줄 수 있소?” 하고 말하였다. 19 그러자 예수님께서 그들에게 대답하셨다. “이 성전을 허물어라. 그러면 내가 사흘 안에 다시 세우겠다.” 20 유다인들이 말하였다. “이 성전을 마흔여섯 해나 걸려 지었는데, 당신이 사흘 안에 다시 세우겠다는 말이오?” 21 그러나 그분께서 성전이라고 하신 것은 당신 몸을 두고 하신 말씀이었다. 22 예수님께서 죽은 이들 가운데에서 되살아나신 뒤에야, 제자들은 예수님께서 이 말씀을 하신 것을 기억하고, 성경과 그분께서 이르신 말씀을 믿게 되었다.

13 Since the Passover of the Jews was near, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 He found in the temple area those who sold oxen, sheep, and doves, as well as the money-changers seated there. 15 He made a whip out of cords and drove them all out of the temple area, with the sheep and oxen, and spilled the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables, 16 and to those who sold doves he said, "Take these out of here, and stop making my Father's house a marketplace." 17 His disciples recalled the words of Scripture, Zeal for your house will consume me. 18 At this the Jews answered and said to him, "What sign can you show us for doing this?" 19 Jesus answered and said to them, "Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up." 20 The Jews said, "This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and you will raise it up in three days?" 21 But he was speaking about the temple of his Body. 22 Therefore, when he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they came to believe the Scripture and the word Jesus had spoken.

묵상) 우리의 하느님은 임마누엘의 하느님입니다. 우리의 하느님은 우리와 함께 계시는 하느님이십니다. 우리의 하느님은 우리 안에 임하시는, 우리와 함께 하시는 하느님입니다. 그래서 우리의 몸은 하느님이 머무시는 하느님의 성전인 것입니다. 그러나 우리가 세속적인 욕망으로 가득 차 있으면 우리의 성전이 장사하는 집으로 되는 것입니다.

우리는 성전에서 주님을 찬양하며 주님께 예배를 드립니다. 우리는 성전에서 주님을 만나고 주님과 대화하고 주님의 위로를 받습니다. 우리가 주님의 성전에 모여 주님을 찬미 찬양할 때 주님께서 우리와 함께 하실 것입니다. 그러면 성전 안에는 주님의 은총과 축복이 가득찰 것입니다.

성전을 정화하시다

+ 요한 2, 13-22

1. 우리의 몸은 성전이고 성령의 사원입니다. 주님께서는 언제 나를 당신이 기거하실 새 성전으로 만드셨습니까? 내가 성전을 찾는 가장 큰 이유는 무엇입니까? 나는 그 성전 안에서 주님을 자주 만나고 있습니까? 나는 성전에서 기도할 때 위로와 평화를 체험한 경험이 있습니까?

2. '나'라는 성전은 어떻습니까? 하느님이 머물고 계신 거룩한 곳입니까? 아니면 온갖 세상적인 것들로 가득차서 장터처럼 소란스럽고 어지럽습니까? 하느님과 일치하는 삶을 위해 마음을 깨끗이 비우고 정리할 필요를 느낍니까? 나에겐 어떠한 정화가 필요합니까?

Today’s Reflection :

Ezekiel 47:1-2, 8-9, 12 / John 2:13-22

In the first reading from the Prophet Ezekiel we read how a stream flowed from the Temple and gave life in abundance wherever it flowed. If we look at the distance from the Temple as a timeline then we see that over time the river grows to become a great torrent, with the Temple being Jesus Christ. What is in the river can be seen as the members of the Church and what is on the banks as those who come into contact with members of the Church. Whether the people be in the river or on the bank, all receive life from the river.

In the gospel we see Jesus driving out of the Temple those who had dishonored it. The Church is the house of God and it is the source of life for us and that is what we celebrate today. It is our duty to build up the Church of God – the church within each of us and the church as the unity and gathering of all who believe in Jesus Christ. In celebrating today’s feast of the Dedication of St John Lateran’s we also celebrate the dedication of the local churches in which we celebrate the sacraments on a weekly or daily basis.

Prayer :

"Lord Jesus Christ, you open wide the door of your Father’s house and you bid us to enter confidently that we may worship in spirit and truth. Help me to draw near to your throne of mercy with gratitude and joy". Amen

삼위일체의 성녀 엘리사벳 (Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity)

삼위일체의 성녀 엘리사벳(Elisabeth)은 1880년 7월 18일 프랑스의 부르주(Bourges) 근처에서 태어나 4세 때 육군 장교였던 아버지를 여의었고, 아빌라의 성녀 테레사(Theresia ab Avila, 10월 15일)의 저서에 심취할 정도로 열심한 신자였던 어머니에게 충실한 신앙교육을 받으며 성장하였다. 14세 때 동정녀가 될 것을 서약한 그녀는, 1901년 8월 2일 디종(Dijon)의 카르멜 수도회에 입회하여 1903년 첫서원을 하였으며, 이듬해 11월에는 “삼위일체께 바치는 기도”라는 기도문을 작성하였다. 그리고 1905년 부활절을 앞두고 사도 바오로(Paulus) 안에서 삼위일체의 영광을 찬미하는 자신의 성소를 발견하는 영적 체험을 한데 이어, 이듬해 주님 승천 대축일과 그 후 얼마 안 있어 하느님과의 일치를 이루는 영적인 은총을 체험하였다. 성녀 엘리사벳은 약 9개월 동안 병상에 누워 고통스러운 병고를 치르다가 1906년 11월 9일 디종 수녀원에서 사망하였다. 1984년 11월 25일 교황 성 요한 바오로 2세(Joannes Paulus II)에 의해 시복되었고, 2016년 10월 16일 바티칸의 성 베드로 광장에서 프란치스코(Franciscus) 교황에 의해 성인품에 올랐다.
