Friday of the Fifth Week of Easter
+ 사도행전 15,22-31

해설) 사도들과 원로들의 결정은 예루살렘 모교회의 동의를 얻어서 편지로 지역 교회들에 전달되었습니다. 야고보의 결정이 예루살렘 교회 전체에 받아들여졌으며 예루살렘 교회는 대표단을 뽑아 안티오키아 교회로 파견하였습니다. 안티오키아 교회의 신자들은 예루살렘 사도회의의 결정을 크게 기뻐하며 반겼습니다.
그 무렵 22 사도들과 원로들은 온 교회와 더불어, 자기들 가운데에서 사람들을 뽑아 바오로와 바르나바와 함께 안티오키아에 보내기로 결정하였다. 뽑힌 사람들은 형제들 가운데 지도자인 바르사빠스라고 하는 유다와 실라스였다. 23 그들 편에 이러한 편지를 보냈다.“여러분의 형제인 사도들과 원로들이 안티오키아와 시리아와 킬리키아에 있는 다른 민족 출신 형제들에게 인사합니다. 24 우리 가운데 몇 사람이 우리에게서 지시를 받지도 않고 여러분에게 가서, 여러 가지 말로 여러분을 놀라게 하고 정신을 어지럽게 하였다는 말을 들었습니다. 25 그래서 우리는 사람들을 뽑아, 우리가 사랑하는 바르나바와 바오로와 함께 여러분에게 보내기로 뜻을 모아 결정하였습니다. 26 바르나바와 바오로는 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 이름을 위하여 목숨을 내놓은 사람들입니다. 27 우리는 또 유다와 실라스를 보냅니다. 이들이 이 글의 내용을 말로도 전할 것입니다. 28 성령과 우리는 다음의 몇 가지 필수 사항 외에는 여러분에게 다른 짐을 지우지 않기로 결정하였습니다. 29 곧, 우상에게 바쳤던 제물과 피와 목 졸라 죽인 짐승의 고기와 불륜을 멀리하라는 것입니다. 여러분이 이것들만 삼가면 올바로 사는 것입니다. 안녕히 계십시오.”30 사람들이 이렇게 그들을 떠나보내자, 그들은 안티오키아로 내려가 공동체를 모아 놓고 편지를 전하였다. 31 공동체는 편지를 읽고 그 격려 말씀에 기뻐하였다.

22 The Apostles and presbyters, in agreement with the whole Church, decided to choose representatives and to send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. The ones chosen were Judas, who was called Barsabbas, and Silas, leaders among the brothers. 23 This is the letter delivered by them: "The Apostles and the presbyters, your brothers, to the brothers in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia of Gentile origin: greetings. 24 Since we have heard that some of our number who went out without any mandate from us have upset you with their teachings and disturbed your peace of mind, 25 we have with one accord decided to choose representatives and to send them to you along with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, 26 who have dedicated their lives to the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 So we are sending Judas and Silas who will also convey this same message by word of mouth: 28 'It is the decision of the Holy Spirit and of us not to place on you any burden beyond these necessities, 29 namely, to abstain from meat sacrificed to idols, from blood, from meats of strangled animals, and from unlawful marriage. If you keep free of these, you will be doing what is right. Farewell.'" 30 And so they were sent on their journey. Upon their arrival in Antioch they called the assembly together and delivered the letter. 31 When the people read it, they were delighted with the exhortation.
묵상) 예루살렘 교회의 결정은 안티오키아 지역만이 아니고 전 교회에 전해졌습니다. 이 편지가 전달된 곳은 유다인과 이방인이 함께 이룬 혼합 그리스도 공동체입니다. 이방계 그리스도인이 할례를 받지 않은 상태에서도 완전한 그리스도인으로 교회에 받아들여질 수 있다는 결정이었기 때문에 이 편지는 이방인에게 많은 격려가 되었습니다.

< 내가 너희에게 명령하는 것은 이것이다. 서로 사랑하여라. >
해설) 예수님께서 당신 제자들에게 새 계명을 주십니다. 예수님께서 주신 새로운 계명은 '서로 사랑하라'는 것입니다. 예수님께서 제자들에게 주신 새 계명은 그냥 사랑하라는 것이 아니라, '예수님께서 사랑하신 그 사랑'으로 사랑하라는 것입니다. 예수님의 방식으로 사랑하는 그 사랑이 예수님의 새로운 계명입니다.
그때에 예수님께서 제자들에게 말씀하셨다. 12 “이것이 나의 계명이다. 내가 너희를 사랑한 것처럼 너희도 서로 사랑하여라. 13 친구들을 위하여 목숨을 내놓는 것보다 더 큰 사랑은 없다. 14 내가 너희에게 명령하는 것을 실천하면 너희는 나의 친구가 된다. 15 나는 너희를 더 이상 종이라고 부르지 않는다. 종은 주인이 하는 일을 모르기 때문이다. 나는 너희를 친구라고 불렀다. 내가 내 아버지에게서 들은 것을 너희에게 모두 알려 주었기 때문이다. 16 너희가 나를 뽑은 것이 아니라 내가 너희를 뽑아 세웠다. 너희가 가서 열매를 맺어, 너희의 그 열매가 언제나 남아 있게 하려는 것이다. 그리하여 너희가 내 이름으로 아버지께 청하는 것을 그분께서 너희에게 주시게 하려는 것이다. 17 내가 너희에게 명령하는 것은 이것이다. 서로 사랑하여라.”

Jesus said to his disciples: 12 "This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. 13 No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command you. 15 I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father. 16 It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you. 17 This I command you: love one another."
묵상) 예수님께서는 당신 제자들과 새로운 관계를 갖고자 하셨습니다. 예수님의 제자들은 예수님으로부터 선택되었을 때 이미 예수님의 벗이었습니다. 예수님은 당신 제자들과의 관계가 강압적이고 종속적인 주종 관계가 아니라 자유로운 친구 관계로 선택하신 것입니다. 그리고 이 우정 관계의 주도권은 주님이신 예수님에게 있습니다.
하느님께서는 우리를 너무도 사랑하시어 당신의 아들을 우리의 속죄 제물로 보내주셨습니다. 예수님을 통하여 우리는 하느님의 큰 사랑을 알게 되었습니다. 우리는 이 사랑을 온 세상에 전해야 합니다. 우리가 하느님의 사랑을 전할 때 하느님께서는 우리와 함께 하실 것이며 우리를 통해 하느님께서 일하실 것입니다.

서로 사랑하여라
+ 요한 15,12-17
1. "내가 너희를 뽑아 세웠다"라는 말씀을 묵상해 보십시오. 이 말씀은 내 삶의 구체적이고도 세세한 모든 것에 대해 내게 하시는 말씀입니다 그리고 우리를 당신의 벗으로 초대하고 계시는 예수님의 모습을 상상해 보십시오.
2. 우리가 세상에 나가 열매를 맺어 그 열매가 영원히 남아 있게 하신다는 예수님의 말씀은 구체적으로 나에게 어떤 의미입니까? 그리고 "서로 사랑하여라." 라고 주님께서 우리에게 주신 계명을 나는 어떻게 실천하며 살 수 있습니까?
Today’s Gospel Reflection : John 15:12-17
To be someone’s friend is an exceptional privilege because friendship invites us into a deep and personal relationship with another person. In order to grow in that friendship, we must spend time with someone, share ourselves openly, and listen attentively. Friendship takes time and energy.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us, “You are my friends.” He calls us friends because He has chosen us. Just like we choose the friends we want to spend time with and share openly with, Jesus chooses us. He wants a deep, personal relationship with us. But have we chosen Jesus to be our friend? Do we spend enough time with Him to cultivate a true friendship with Him?
On a recent retreat that I attended, the priest told us that the “essence of our whole spiritual life is to be better friends with God.” And how we become better friends with God is through prayer and meditation. On the retreat, we spent time meditating on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, who encouraged people to talk to Jesus like a friend. During meditation, we were encouraged to enter a conversation with the Lord, to tell Him what’s on our hearts, and to listen attentively to what He has to say. In this part of prayer, which is called the colloquy, we speak from the heart and are “real” with God. We share our sorrow, confusion, fear, joy, excitement—whatever is on our hearts. It also is a time to just be present to Jesus without words.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus defines friendship to mean the willingness “to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” And He not only preaches this, He also exemplifies this when He suffers death on the Cross for you and me, His friends. Are we willing to lay down our lives for Jesus, for our family members, for our friends? When we truly love the Lord and one another, we can indeed imagine following Jesus’ example of friendship all the way to death. But even if it doesn’t require a literal sacrifice of our lives, we can probably think of countless little sacrifices we would make for those with whom we share a strong friendship.
When we grow in our friendship with God to the point that it is the essence of our spiritual life, we also will want to make little sacrifices for our friend, Jesus. We will increase the time we talk to Him, we will learn to recognize His voice, and we will grow more in love with Him?
Personal Questions : ► How do you view your relationship with Jesus? Do you consider Jesus to be your friend? Do you speak to Him in prayer like you would a friend? If not, what can you do today that will help you grow closer to Him?
Prayer : Lord Jesus, thank You for calling us “friend.” We love you and want to be a better friend to You. Thank You for laying down Your life for us. Help us to reflect on what we have done for You and what we can do for You in the future. May our friendship with You grow stronger every day. Amen.

프랑스 북서부 브르타뉴(Bretagne)의 케르마르틴에서 영주의 아들로 태어난 성 이보 헬로리는 그곳에서 자랐으나, 장성한 후에는 파리(Paris)에서 신학과 교회법 그리고 철학을 공부하고 오를레앙(Orleans)에서는 민법을 공부하였다. 브르타뉴로 돌아오던 길에 그는 렌(Rennes)과 트리기에(Trguier)의 교회법원과 사회법정에서 판사가 되었는데, 주로 가난하고 힘없는 사람들 그리고 가난을 이기지 못하여 이주해 온 난민들을 도왔기 때문에 ‘가난한 사람들의 변호사’란 별명을 얻었다.
1284년에 그는 사제로 서품되어 자신의 전공 분야에서 많은 활동을 하였다. 그는 구호소를 세워 병든 이들을 돌보고 가난한 이들을 위한 사목을 하였을 뿐만 아니라 설교 능력 또한 비범하여 큰 성공을 거두었다. 그는 일생 동안 엄격하고 청빈한 삶을 살다가 주님 승천 대축일 전야미사 강론을 마친 후에 선종하였다. 그는 1347년 교황 클레멘스 6세(Clemens VI)에 의해 시성되었다. 그는 법률가의 수호성인이다.
